Thread: Am I the only one who thinks it's too easy to reach Master Doctor?

Yeah.I am a lazy, lazy, lazy (did I mention lazy?) gal and even did most of my crafting exp afk at the factory while I was doing other things in RL...let's do some math:

- Casual Player (20 hrs week) Masters in3 months

- Me (~40hrs a week, well logged in that much at least) Masters in3 weeks

At 2x the play rate I shouldn't have finished for 1.5 months. Now, I was in beta and had a jump on other players because of that. But it still doesn't add up. What bothers me is that I'm not a powergamer, I spend so much time running around petting Pekos and just chatting. I can understand the people who were racing to be I_AM_COOL_AND_FIRST or unemployed insomniacs - but I could care less about that stuff and still finished so quick, it's worrisome.

*buuuuurp* More content please!

They have complete break downs of how fast people are progressing, how much XP they gain doing something, and where the XP faucets and sinks are. If they feel it needs a balance, it'll get one. We saw it get 50% harder when it went from Beta to live based on those numbers. But typically, most people didn't use medics in groups to much in Beta... at least we weren't really recruited for the trips so the adjustments were made mostly from medics in the hospitals. If people are moving up to fast now because groups are wanting medics, expect anotherincrease in XP needed to advance.

Well, Tann, that was still meant for 20 hrs/wk to Master ALL your skills out. Meaning not just Master Doctor (which we obivoulsy needed Master Medic for) but also the rest of your skill points. Are your Master Doc AND Master Bio-Enginer or Creature Handler, or Combat Medic, or something like that? If so then your 3 week comparison is more applicable.

As for the lazy factor, i feel the same way. Beta gave me a leg up on exactly what I needed to do and how to do it, but I still spend a LOT of time off-planet, surveying doing all kinds of other stuff. I expect that is what they expect the 20hr/wk player to be doing as well. They dhouldn't tailoer the game to the powergamers. If the pwoergamers wanted to make Master in everything and that was thier sole goal, then they probably will get boared wand quit after a couple of months a the most. But i just don't see SWG as that kind of game. It hsould be more intersteing for the folks who finish all the elveling garbae and then really get into the rest of what is interesting about playing around int he Star Wars universe.

Oh, and Neyland is probably right, too. Some of us definitely got some XP time grouping, but there was still a lot of med center XP working as well. Then again the entire first week or two of Live was more Med Center than grouping because so few folks understood the usefulness of medics in a group at that point. So it's a bit of give and take.

All I can say is that I, personally, like the advancement rate (although I do agree with Elenora that the crafting part really becomes a dull grind at Doc and CM levels). I'll be even happier once I am DONE with all of this leveling because doing this, for me, is justbasic trainingfor the real game.

Zarlor -I havearound 12skill points left. I qualify for Novice Pistoleer if I wanted it (but I don't). I need a handful more of ranged to get Novice CM which is my plan.I will have 0 skill points left by this weekend. So it's not like I have Master Doctor and no other skills. I think you're missing the point here: leveling is too fast compared to how much there is to do in the game after you attain your desired Profession.

not sure cuz i havent played all the classes, but it seems like all the classes have a hangup skill that slows down leveling...liike for CM its combat xp...for novice CMs its crafting..for doctors its crafting as well..

artisan are a little different since all their trees pull form the same pool

only class i havent seen with a major hang up is CH..hence if there is any classes with the most masters its CH now...

there are a lot of doctors that are close to master ie have at least 1/2 the profession mastered that really get hung up on the crafting side..

i think if u just concentrated on mastering your skills i think master doctor would be easy to obtain...if u just grinded it out...so in that sense maybe it is easy..

but there are alot of other things to do...i know i probably could be a master CM by now if i just grinded...but i didnt...i took time out to help gather resources for the PA hall...i trained lower medics in the med center...i did destory missions to get money for houses and clothes...i visited endor and other planets...

honestly afking in the factory all day is nice but i dont seem many people being able to do that...i hate to admit it but if u can do that..thats pretty much close to power leveling...lord knows im not one to critize all my toon does while im at work is afksurvey...but many people dont have that luxury...

i know a few people that are medic/doctors and are really casual players and it seems to be proceeding at a nice pace for them...

Right, I didn't say I was a 'casual' player. So I multiplied myself x2, and still came up short on the dev's timeline.

It probably is a little quick getting to master doc. I'm halfway there, and probably could've attained it already if not for the recent server issues.

Already mastered artisan and medic, and I've run out of skill points several times now and had to surrender some skills in favor of others...

i think ud have to multiple by more...

factory runs of 100 that 3-4 hrs..

a casual player doesnt play 3-4 hrs a day in my opinion...

not to mention if they had such a limited time to play, they definately wouldnt stay in one spot just for the crafting xp...

also the devs knew that people that grind would master professions quickly...thats obvious...but i dont think this game is about the xp grind or mastering skills...

of course thats just my take on the game...and comparing it to daoc which is almost 100% about the grind...this game has many more things to do...

I find it almost impossible to believe that anyone will Master Doctor without grinding, simply because the crafting lags so far behind the medical exp. As for the factory AFKing, I did that to get through one box of the crafting exp. I did not get the boxes of medical exp while AFK!

I wasn't really aware of much to*accomplish* in the game after skilling up other than Theme Park quests, PvP, and trying to open your FS slot. Heh. But I like socializing and experimenting with some of the player-owned structures. My point is that the content is extremely finite right now, so I'm surprised they let us level so fast.

hehe im tryingto get a large house...furnish it with nice good...i havea big wardrobe...ive started my own medicine business..help found a PA...helped clear my neighbor hood of bad bad mauler campers. flown to one side of the galaxy to the other in search of berries and seeds and fruits and gases and all that jazz...

there is plenty to do...a lof of it involves other people tho..so if you mean content in terms of PvE or things u do alone against the computer...maybe it is a bit light on content...but there you are missing 1/2 the game there are players to interact with too...

I do, you do, a lot do...but a lot of people don't. I'm really not talking about myself here, it's more a comment on the game in general. EQ was *very* geared towards the more hardcore player; they put out entire expansions which were strictly high-level content. Casual players would pay for but not see 50% of the game. DAoC (yuck) offered the same versions of the same content recycled as you leveled up, but it took forever and was mindnumbingly boring. I've played a lot of MMOs and it's just surprising to max out my character a few weeks after release.

My little group is trying tostart a Player City with a bare minimum of people of all different professions(well there's no cities in the game yet so we're just pretending). That's really challenging, since the Architect, Tailor, and Weaponsmith professions are taking a long time to Master. We run in circles feeding our harvesters a lot so that the Arch can skill up continuously. We do everything together and take regular vacations to Lok, Endor, etc. The coolest project I'd heard of anyone starting yet was a ZOO! How clever is that? I am going to try and help but sadly there is no Veterinarian sideline for Doctors.
