Hi guys,

I need some help here with the fake bank tips and scamming. I am a new doctor and just started to buff. I had some very bad and unhappy experience with very unfriendly and rude people. Even when I tell them not to tip or bank tip me they do very fast and all at once, there is no chance n the world to check what is going on on my bank account. I thought I found two guys which tipped me and didnt have a Surname in their e-mail so i refused to buff them. Instead they where running around yelling that i am scamming. It might have been a mistake on my side because i didnt know that one can have only a single name so they might have paid. After a long dispute i paid them back to get my peace and to give the situation a benefit of a doubt.

The end of the story: I stop buffing people for money and use the buffs only for me and friends to do missions. Still i am interested in how you guys handle the mess of fake bank tips, rude players, line jumping and all the **edit** which happens when buffing players.

cheers

Abbe

Im thinking of starting a no bank tips policy. Does anyone else have any experience of doing this? is there anything I should do or watch out for?

I personally have yet to be ripped off (as far as I know). While this happens it's not common and the majority of the playerbase (as well as the devs) look down on this. I still allow bank tips because sometimes people may not have the cash on hand. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. The last time I buffed for a few hours I made 500K. Some guys may have tried to rip me off but who knows.

The only time you have to worry about it, is if the person doing the bank tip has a single name (like my character on Kettemoor which I completely forgot about when I made him).

If an email comes from a player it will be first name only. If it's generated by the system (like a bank tip) it'll have first name last name.

For example let's take a guy name "IMA PLAYER"

If "IMA PLAYER" sends you an email then the name in the email field will just say "ima" (all lower case). However if they send you a bank tip and the game sends you an email the name will say "ima player" (all lower case)

That's how you tell if it's a bank tip or a player sent email. Bank tips will have first name, last name and player sent emails will have first name only.

Rebabb, there's a few things you can do to help avoid getting scammed.

First, go to options and click on Chat. Add the word "tip" in the field and choose a bright color like red, so that whenever that word shows up in your chat, it's easy to see. Stay in something other than Spatial chat to cut down the confusion when buffing, or open a separate chat window with nothing but system messages and tells.

Keep your bank balance empty as often as possible, and keep that window open all the time so you can watch your cash flow.

Use a macro to spam your sales pitch, and include the message "Not accepting bank tips", and "Do not tip until I start buffing you". If the odd person does bank tip, monitor your bank balance. Try to keep people organised by telling them to form a line.

Learn how to spot fake bank tips. I'm sure that if a person's name starts with capital letters, those caps show in a bank tip, but not a false one.

Be patient and don't rush yourself. If you find yourself getting swamped, tell people that, they wantyour services badly and they understand that your very busy. It helps to make auto responce macros as well, so that when you're getting many tells, you can just hit a toolbar button and have the macro say, "/replyhello, yes I'm buffing at xxxx, I charge $ xxxx, my buffs are of xxxx power and PLEASE, no bank tips."

Just an idea(I am not a Doctor), why not keep a couple of real crappy long duration buffs(if this is possible)on you when buffing for cash. If someone trys to scam you then throw them one crappy health buff. Then the moron will have to go get someone to kill him to lose the buff. At the very minimum it will agravate him/her almost as much as the attempted scam bothered you.

Buffs can be buffed over now. This will no longer grief the player.

I have a Macro that I manually hit once in a while (I hate those that have repeating macros every 2 minutes in Coronet).

It does a /yell about the Price, Stats and Time. Then it pauses for 5 seconds and says to disband your current group as I will invite you to my group so that I can keep track of who is next, then mentions that Ban tips are allowed only from players with a first AND a last name (Unless cleared by me first) and do not tip until I start buffing or you can possibly lose the tip depending on how busy I am.

I also set my AFK message to this (But include my current position as well) and then /afk so the message kicks in as soon as I get a tell.

To top it off I have a seperate Chat window up at all times that is only System Messages so I can go back if necessary. My /healenhance is on full macro and when I start a major buff session I pull at least2 sets of each enhance stat out of crates so I have a while before I run out. I also have my Bivoli macro'd as well (Well I do now since I just got some recently lol)

Kinda funny......This was on the Bria server, I can't remember the guys name off-hand but I've still got the e-mail.

Now I normally charge 12k for buffs, but at the time I'd been doing a bit of PvP (Im crap at it but fancied a go), and had some good and interesting banter with a Rebel, about the Pro's and Con's of the Empire (Im Imperial)

So this guy asks me for buffs...ok no probs I explain my stats and duration and say 12k....

I then see he's an Overt Imperial, so I'm in a good mood, got enough cash to tide me over so I say since he's an Overt Imperial I'll do it for 10k.

Guy"OK 2 secs"

I wait.

I have a new e-mail message. Now this guy has a Surname, his e-mail doesnt. So i check my balance. I knew I had next to nothing in the bank so it was fairly obvious that I hadn't been paid. So I check the mail again just in case and find a spelling mistake 'blah blah has bben tranferred from escrow to your account'

me "Are you trying to rob me"

Guy "lol j/k"

I then recieve another mail with a 10k tip

Guy "there you go buff me then"

Me "no"

Guy "why not?????"

Me "er...you just tried to rob me duh!"

Guy " aww come on...I was just kidding"

Me "how on earth am i going to find being robbed funny?"

Guy "Ok give me my money back"

Me "Nope"

Me "/smile"

Guy "what??? buff me then!!!"

Me "Nope"

Guy "Give me my money back!!!"

also at this moment Im buffing other people, am really polite as always with thank yous' for tips and so on. Other customers happy, 'these are good buffs' so on and so forth....

Guy "Give me my money back -expletive deleted etc"

Me "You're the idiot for actually trying to rob me then when I suss you , pay me duh!"

Everyone around me know whats going on and people are starting to laugh

Guy "Im going to report you"

Me "Lmao....please, please do"

Me "YOU'RE the one who attempted to rob me using an EXPLOIT...."

Guy -silence-

Guy -random abuse...leaves

What's worse is I get a /tell from the reb i had some good banter with asking if I was having problems, I /reply mentioning it was also an Imperial trying to rob me. He laughs...

All my hard work trying to convince a Rebel that us Imperials actually have a nobler purpose, using good arguments and so on...all to waste. Ah well I made 10k out of it.

Whenever I buff I don't even allow bank tips at all. It works fairly well as long as your patient with people needing to run to the bank and what not. I find if you're strong and constantly remind people not to tip you until you say then you'll do fine. Anyone that has a problem with it is more than welcome to scam the other doctors around.

A flat out "no bank tips" policy is a bad Idea. This is the macro I run.

/say Selling buffs all stats over 2100 for 3 hour, 10k rebels 15k imps and nutrals; ----(you have to have the semi collen in there or it will say evrything in the same bubble)

/say do NOT bank tip unless I know you are going to and have said it's ok, and that I am looking at my bank balence. any bank tip I get without a reason I will consider a gift. thank you for your buissnes.

you would have to change that around depending on your buffs but the secound one plays right after the first one so there usesaly isn't much confusion. the only time I have a problem is when people don't read the whole thing. but that happens rarely and if they do it is their own falt, because it was ALL there, they just coun't be bothered to read it. this has worked very well for me.
