Thread: an idea on buff packs-- devs, plz read

Sorry, but this is a very bad idea IMO.
Doc buffs are a service like an entertainers buff. They are not simply a crafted item.
The average buff pack goes for about 15k as a pack. When administered by a doc the values goes to about 45k. As you can see the biggest value of any buff pack is the administration of the buff not in the pack itself. If you were to take this value away by making it possible for most anyone to administer buffs then the Doc prof would loss a great revenue stream.
Also, a buff is one of the most advanced medic items made. As a result only a Doc should be able to administer it and even as a doc they need to have a droid's help.
I agree. And this is (right now at least) the biggest job for a Doc to do. If you take that out, aside from PvP what do they have left?
except that a master doc is never around when you need him. you guys never hang out where you're needed. sitting in a starport buffing guys instead of out playing the game healing and rezing and doing all the things docs are supposed to do. docs sit at the outpost on dath buffing people doinf enraged ranc missions orsitting in the starports in corellia and theed, buffing guys headed to wherever they're going. never in a hospital healing guys. buffing is the only service docs provide. if its a monetary issue, sell the buff packs for more money. i'd pay 50k for a pack of like 6 buffs. you still make money, and the rest of us can pull a droid and get buffed when we stumble upon something we cant handle otherwise, instead of wasting playing time getting a shuttle to corellia or naboo, and then more time sitting in some line for a buff. this is the way it is on bria anyway. if this is the way it is on most servers, read the next carefully.
inflate the price of the pack to offset the loss of income of providing the service. didn't you guys ever bother studying economics? this is why the economy in this game sucks. buy a macroeconomics book and this idea becomes very clear. it will be hard for you guys at first, but eventually competition will balance the price to what the intrinsic value of the buff pack is worth.

and about doc's not being around and never fighting: start tipping me for rezing 20 people, healing k's of damage and several wounds. i love fighting as a doc, i like that extra protection, but i will never join a group of unknown people just to heal anymore simply because its a better income for me if i buff...
btw, start adding your servers doc to your friendlist then call them up whenever you need a buff.

Ummm, you'll pay more than 50K for abag of 6 buffpacks. Minimum I've found is 60K for one set of the six buffs, and have seen it as high as double that.
We've got the economics figured out, okay? It costs me less money-wise AND especially time-wise to have someone make better buffpacks than I could anyway without having the 30 or more harvesters and 8 to 10 factories dedicated to making doctor's medicines.
And most doctors DO go on the same missions you do, that's why they charge maybe a little more in Dantooine or Dathomir or Endor outposts than back in Theed or Coronet -- their group is waiting for them to finish buffing this big line of people that showed up when he first sat down to just buff their group. Highest I've charged to date is 12K for a set of buffs on someone, and the next guy whined, saying he could get them for about 5K on Corellia. I politely refunded him his money and told him he was more than welcome to catch the next shuttle to Corellia.
I'm a combo Master Doctor and Master Combat Medic, and I spend more in amonth on my healing others in battle than most of my groupmembers spend on their weapons or armor, verified and confirmed by group members. One, a Master Commando, did the "economics" on it and said I had probably spent three times as much before their armor had to be replaced.
Buffing pays my way; I generally buff guildmembers for free, and they share some of the hides/meat with me if it's really good stuff that I can use. I was a Combat Medic first, and there is no way they can support themselves, people just don't stop to think to tip the guy who kept them alive all night.

I must agree with my fellow Docs that have posted here. I would just like to add that the reason why docs don't usually sit in the med center is because there is no incentive for us to do so once we've reached the level of Master Doctor. We have no medical experience to be gained and hardly anyone pays/tips for healing wounds. The medical center is merely a money drain. I still do it on occasion, just to roleplay, but in order to get other than medics to the medical centers we need something there to make it worthwhile. This has been discussedat length on this very forum before.

Oh but i want to make my own harvesters please and not wait for an architect, oh i want to make my own armour but not be an armoursmith, i want to makeall thegeo scythes without being a weaponsmith, fine have a droid buff you yeah buff you at 50% what a master doc does see what i care
As far as your economics argument well where did you study economics then????? 1 2.2k buff all 6 stats for 12k lasts 3hrs....trip to dathomir do giant baz nitches at 11.5k a mission, times 2, 23k every 10 minutes (asssuming your a combat type) call it 15 minutes for travel so thats 4tripsper hour * 23k totals 92k.... timesthisby 3hours you get 276,000 credits......so for paying a doc 12k you earn 276,000, yeah economics m8 rightwe are undercharging thanks for pointing it out

its more of a convenience thing than a monetary issue. look, so far the only valid arguement to this has been the lack of income you docs would suffer as a result of this idea. if you inflate the buff pack price to offset the the income hit you would take, everyone's happy. i'm actually surprised to see more docs aren't on board for this. do you really enjoy sitting in one spot doing the same thing over and over again to rude, often hostile customers? do it this way and all you have to do is craft 'em, put 'em on a vendor, and go off and have some fun playing the game instead of sitting in a starport. who the hell wants to run all over the place looking for a doc, wasting time waiting for shuttles when we could still give you your main source of income and have the convenience of getting buffs whenever we need them, not whenever you feel like working. and 12k a buff? retarded, i say. i remember when a full buff cost 5k. just reinforces my belief that docs are the greediest players in the game. as long as you guys have a stranglehold on the most valuable in-game commodity, the entire player base will be at your mercy. it isn't fair to everyone else.

p.s. this is why i cant master doc. i dont have the luxury of being able to master more than one elite profession. i have to be a useless master scout.
