Thread: making Doc useful again

Am not sure that I understand how the devs come up with making the duration of our buffs making us wanted more in groups... am hoping that someone can explain that to me....

One thought that a friend of mine came up with to make us more desireable in groups is to give the group a bonus to both the duration and power to the buff given. Not so much as to adjust the actual buff but to make it an innate benefit to Docs, similar to how smugglers can pass on the contraband benefit to groupmates.

This can be done at different levels with in the doc tree...say giving a small bonus (say +2-8% spread throughout the first branch) to dabblers and a high bonus (say +20%) for Master Docs. This would not only make us useful in groups once again, but also give another reason to go for Master Doc.

Please don't take this as smack to those who dabble in Doc..I don't have any issues with that at all...

This is just a thought.. and needs some refining.. but I think it would be worth sharing with the rest of you.

Any thoughts???

Doctors should never have been made a "in the field" profession.

Doctors, should have remained crafters. Giving them the ability to craft med and install, repair and build cybernetics.
Combat Medics, the name says it all. Healing and curing in combat.
Medic, a weak hybrid of both.

CU ruined this old and prestigious profession. Now, only things wanted of a doc is come cure wounds.

I was looking at dabling in doc, the standard 4000 that everyone has, but I'm thinking more and more of going master, for one reason. Buff durration. They last what 30 minutes? I know that every time I leave MO in a group everyone has full buffs, and before we are finished our first set of missions no one has buffs anymore. With the reduction in SP needed to be a doc, you can be a quite effective fighter, who can rebuff your group as needed. After talking to some friends, they all agreed that it would be nice to be able be rebuffed in the field, hence a need for master docs (yes I know you can buff at XXX4)

For the people that say CM is for the field and Docs are should stay at home, well, CM has it's role, it has nice area and ranged heals that are very effective in a battle, a doc has to run to each person. Think of the doc as soldier with more medical training, where CM is more based on Bio-terrorism

With the folks I hunt with, everyone's anxious to have docs around purely for rezzing. The cyberarm is nice but has what, a 30 minute cooldown? (Somebody please let me know if my memory fails me here.) And though I don't have that ability yet, right now I don't have any trouble getting into a hunting group because they see it as supporting my grind to MD.

Heh, maybe it's a question of who you hunt with, I guess.

This might be just hopeful wishing.

I would like to see docs have something similar to entertainers (i.e. "cover charge") docs used to be one of the wealthiest temps in the game due to buff lines. Entertainers can make a lot of money with their cover charge. One entertainer told me he made 500k in 3 days of AFK dancing. If we can’t have a "docs fee" let us put access fees on our hospitals like merchants can do.

Docs and their hospitals are "free clinics". Correct me if i am wrong but there is only 3 ways to heal wounds...1) docs, 2) Jedi, and 3) hospitals. There is only one way to get inspiration buffs and that’s an entertainer and they get paid for it.

Someone will say you can go on missions the doc is a CL 55 by its self and is a formidable support profession for a combat profession making it a CL 80 go on missions and get the $$.

Well an entertainer at CL1 can rake in the $$ more so than a CL80 doc a whole lot more.

As it is the hospital is just another house that can heal wounds over time and used to heal BF (without a doc present). Why not make them more useful to the docs.

A doc really don’t need a hospital right now

The differences with and with out a surgical droid are minor. I used to be able to buff people for 50 minutes and now that has dropped to 35-38 min. and that’s 35-38 minutes with what should sound like uber buff ... in hospital, with droid, and BE clothes.

The efficiency with hospitals, BE clothes, Droids and Doc Skills can reach or even exceed 300...these are wasted number

this is my 2 cents on this ... care to make change?

The Devs probly have their on 2 shiny pennies and dont care for mine

Actually to correct your oh so "smart" comment, Doc has always been an "In the field" profession. People turned it into something it wasn't suppose to be.

And if I'm only need for wounds why do I get 100 tells a day asking for a Revive? And then after words for buffs? Sorry man, but you have no clue what you are talking about.

From some of your statement here its clear you dont know what your talking about.

Im a Mdoc / rifleman myself

Unless your one of those docs, who only thinks of himself and unwilling to take a few chances im very usefull to have arond in

PvP.

There is plenty to do in pvp for a master doc. Draging incaped/dead players, healing incaped players, rezing and buffing.

But if wound heals are the only thing doc on your server is good for, i hope they read this and leave you on the ground the next

time you get DB´ed in a PvP fight(if you PvP that is)

Too true. Pre-CU before buffs and armour became too powerful, our curing of states and bleeds was useful input to high-end team work. Looking at the changes that have been made to the profession, and the number of doctors I'm seeing re-surface in hunting parties, I think it is still an important role. It needs improvements, as with many other professions. But I like that the developers have sent a clear message that the afk levelling will be a thing of the past, and boy do I love wandering through Coronet star port these days...it's so...calm. I think Doctor will go on to improve with time, perhaps with tweaks to the buffing system, and improvements to other skill trees.

I personally do get tired of all of these Doc dabblers. Almost EVERYONE who is good at PVP is a doc dabbler. I Mastered Doc, what was once a genuine profession, and now everyone has some, but not master. It isn't even worth being a Master Doctor anymore. I think something really needs to be done, like spreading out the healing speed and efficiency over different doc trees. For those that want to use healing in the field, but not really work at the doctor profession.\, they should use medic.
