Reciently I have had noobs come upto me while I am buffing asking for free buffs because they dont have any money. Well, while I really dont mind giving out the freebie every now and then to friends and as payment for something, I dont want to set a precident of haggling for for buffs or have everyone start to expect theyare entitled to a free buff.So ihave come up with four possable solutions for thenoob asking for a free buff:

1. Send the noob packing

2. Buff him/her forfree

3. Buff him/her for a reduced pricewith the good buffs

4.Carry around a lower quality set of buffs and sell for a reduced price.

What are otherDocs doing about this, while the forth optionsounds good its taking up a lot of space just for the few that want them....andoption one and twodont really sound like a gooddeal either.

Why not just base it on how polite they are? That way, you'd help to encourage a bit of civility that seems often lacking in this game. Make note of the rare person who will come back to you and give you credits or resources as a way of thanking you. Buff him/her again for free.

On another note, you could make him/her tumble for a fellow guildie who's grinding their way through Doc/Medic. hehehe.

Yes, this is a tough one.. along with that is the n00b who 'only has 6k.. would that work?" Kinda thing..

I tend to do a favor once and keep a list.. this will work in most cases, but then that precidence is a scary thing...

For this reason I tend to not travel just to buff someone.. in most cases when I do that, it turns into a precidence that you are a travelling buff doc that 'wont mind' going all the way out to the far corner of Yavin to give someone a buff..

If the n00b comes back and expects the same thing, then I send them packing, after all, they could have easily made up some cash when they were buffed for 3 hours..

I generally ignore people asking for them but if you have the inventory room, maybe buff them with lesser buff packs and ask them to go get some meats for you, I do fairly well selling buff packs so I dont buff that often and I only buff my fellow imps, if the person is an imp and nobody else around I might do it for free but I always put people on my friends list that I give a free buff or even people that beg for money just to see if I run into them again and if they are still practicing the begging profession.

I usually have two sets of buffs on myself because I use the higher power lower duration ones I make on myself, sometimes I use failed experiments on myself as well, I dont hunt or PvP so they are really just to keep from getting killed while I check harvesters.

I always respond that the packs cost me money to make, and I can't just give them away to everyone. All new players now get a droid to lead them through a couple small missions to get them some money. Total credits earned from doing those missions is about 3-4K. This is much better than the 250 I started with, so I don't feel sorry for the new players. Now if they want to offer their services (resources, meat, etc...) then I may give them a set. I don't like to condone begging or we'll end up with more AFK beggars (I've seen several) adding to the lag in busy starports.

You know.. now that I think of it.. if a n00b is begging for a buff.. they obviously know what they are and have probably had one in the past.. So they really should have the credits available to buy another one, etc..

Hmmmm.. Maybe I just changed my stance..

The problem is, they might just be noobs who got buffed by some doc for free to 'help' them, andnow they want buffs all the time. I'm convinced that the same noobs who start the game addicted to buffs will prolly have their 250 skill points done in 2 weeks and will just drop the game out of boredom.

Giving free buffs to noobs is NOT helping them IMO. The best part of online games is the discovery, and giving away too much to noos is spoiling them and they totally miss that discovery part... It's really sad.

So you can guess, I don't buff noobs for free nor reduced cost.

I cannot argue with this logic.

The other day I was at the entrance of the Tyrena starport, picking up some spat missions (Corellian avian meat is red hot on Ahazi right now). This guy in full composite with 2000+ point buffs approaches me begging for shuttle fare to Dantooine. Say what?I asked him if he couldn't do a few missions, and he said his buffs were gone from fighting big animals. I don't think he was aware that I could check his H and A bars at a glance and tell that it wasn't true. So I said it looked like he was buffed up to me and he could tackle a few 1500 credit missions to raise the fare. He said they were due to expire. I then suggested that he go bop some meatlumps for a while to raise some money. At this point, he figured out that I was not going to give him money and said OK and TY.

Money is so easy to come by in this game. It really is. 8k to 10k is a lot for a new player, true, but you can run low level missions with middlin' marksman skills and not be in too much danger of being incapped or DBd in the process without buffs or armor. So if you really need the money for the buffs, you can get it.

These are all great points, and pretty much the wayI was feeling about it. While I will most of the time go to great lengths to help a noob, I have always taken them along with me or shown them how to do things...rather than just given them money or services. I guess my frustration lies in the ones that even after I tell them no, they continue to goon for five minutes until someone random tips me just to shut them up...kinda making me out to be the bad guy for not buffing him in the first place.

Geez, I feel like a mean person with some of these responses.

Beggars in games get absolutely no sympathy from me. None. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Go Away. Mainly because 95% of the time, it's just some fool who either; (a) is scamming you or (b) thinks everyone should trip over themselves to serve them.Theydon't want to 'play' a game, they want to be able say "Ipwned you" as fast as they can.

Just last night, I was in Coronet trying to figure out how my merchant droid works and I noticed this one person was asking every person with a Master Artisan or Master Architect tag for a free bike or free house/ harvesters because "he was new". I zoned, came back, still at it. I logged, came back, the sameyahoo was STILL at it. Made me wish there was a '/pimp backhand slap' command in the game.

I'm also speaking from a position of someone (me) who only started playing about 2 months ago (give or take) and not once did I beg or ask for money. I've enjoyed the journey and still do.

I commend those that have a higher tolerance than me. I may be new to the game, but not to MMPRG games and its the same type of yahoos in all these types of games.

I won't give out freebies unless its to guildies plain and simple...or friends of course. I don't wanna be ripped off and give the impressions that ill always give free buffs to people...so if I don't start I wont' always be expected to give freebies (again unless its to good friends or guildies.)

occasionally I will have to apply buffs to only a certain number of stats on a person, leaving me with uneven stacks of buffs. So, when a newb asks for free buffs, I will often use this as an oprotunity to even my stacks of buff packs. Helps out the poor and takes care of a minor hassle at the same time.

To me, a noob in the truest sense, doesn't have any idea what a buff is. I think a lot of these people are probably starting over from another server. These people don't get any sympathy from me. I know it would be a little bit of a challenge, but I could start on another server and generate enough cash pretty quickly to at least arm myself and purchase some low end ubese. From there, I can buy buffs and head to Dantooine to make some money,

I think a lot of the people are just used to being rich and having it easy on another server, and they aren't prepared to work again to get up to that level so they beg. There are some people who may read some SWG forums before they start the game to learn about it. I feel this is a very small percentage though. Probably around 5% of actual players read the forums, so I would think the percentage is much smaller among incoming players.

That being said, I do like to help people, and I think that carrying low end buffs is a good idea to help new players. If they are polite, I usually will help them out. These people typically don't ask for help though frommy experience. Normally it is "u buff..i have no money lol".

I did not even know what a buff was for a month,i found out from this dude in a camp givein me one for free and i killed SOOOO many butterflys so i wanted more,a sh*t load more later i became a doctor in a new char after i went through 2 deleted chars blah blah blah i'm never quiting Doctor its too fun to pass up blah blah desided not to go jedi because of it
