Thread: The Diffence between a good Doctor and a bad Doctor
The Diffence between a good doctor and a bad Doctor on the servers at the moment.
A GOOD DOCTOR... Carrys all heal and wound packs, poison heals, buff packs, revive packs etc and will also help heal others in the medical centre and in the field.
A BAD DOCTOR... Only carrys buff packs and only cares about making his money buffing people.
I only say this because I have been training upto master medic for the last 5 weeks and only 2233 and in the last few days I have been in coronet medical centre healing wounds and all that. I have noticed a lot of doctors just don't heal other peoples wounds and I hear the excuse that their out of wound packs or their no time to heal etc etc. I know that they are a lot of good doctors about as I have met some in the medical. Is it not worth your time anymore healing wounds or has the greed of the $ in form of buffs become more important.

lots and lots and lots I am currently running my doc alt with about 3 free inventory slots, counting backpack and main inventory...
When doing buffing for money, which is rare, I keep only health and action wound packs.. but when they die out I dont replace them on the fly..
I dont like carrying every single med possible, its not efficient when running missions that are not PvP related..
I have committed to always carry disease and poison packs because it irritates me when docs do not carry them and have them for use in case of need.. but there is no guarantee I will have anything else but stims or buffs with me at any given time... there is not enough room for it all..
give me another 50 inventory slots and I will be a "good doctor"
II disagree. 'bad doctors' as you call them just don't have the same goals in the game and will prolly never go hunt nor pvp. Sothey don'tneed all the stuff than other docs use. I prefer the appelations of 'buff doctor', 'combat doctor' or 'crafting doctor' personally, it's much less pejorative and all have their utility.
Will you tell a doctor that always PvPs etc that he is a 'bad doctor' because he won't buff you? I hope not.

I can't agree more, although I will add more to this. There is nothing more irritating than being in a medical center with substantial wounds that need healed, and not be able to get healed, because everybody's healing the &*^&*^ tumblers. I would seriously pay SOE cash to rid that move and any other similar move. I'm so tired and annoyed by "tumblers" it makes me sick. Doctors would rather pay 500 credits to someone for some XP than to make 1000 or 2000 (which is what I normally tip when getting healed) to heal up some wounds??? And for what - so they can get to that wonderful position of buffing people simply to get rich. On the other hand, it seems that it is that way in real life too - doctors anymore are only in it for the money, rather than caring the slightest. All I know is THANK GOD I have a soon to be doctor in my guild that will provide those necessary heals when needed.
So you don't plan on buffing people when you get to master doctor? Are you planning on being the most over-qualified, non-buffingwound-healer in your guilld?
Also, what is the point of buffing people if not to make money? Why would I persue ANY profession if not to make money? Money's how I pay for things in the game. Money's how you buy wound packs, buy buff packs, disease packs, poison packs. It's how you pay the fees on your house. I'm not saying that you should gouge prices or anything. And PLEASE, let's not get into the discussion about how much buffs cost. I think there are a few people that think it costs too much and then there are the rest that realize you can make that much money back in 1-2 missions at most.
That's my opinion.

I -very- rarely buff people for money, usually when I get tired of practicing genocide against rancor or Janta..
maybe 1/20th of my buff pack uses are for pay... the rest are for myself, my friends and my guild.. I do not charge my guild for buffs.. we are very close knit and help each other out.. the 3-4k for a buffpack for them more than outweighs the support they give me...
I carry all the supplies with me and will always wound heal and cure disease/poisons when I see someone in need. I heal wounds when asked, I head disease when I see it..
Give 'good docs' a reason to be in the med center and you will find more there healing. Right now it just does not pay for any healers to even be in one unfortunatly.

Dont be so quick to judge those doctors who do NOT perform wound healing. Those doctors/players are just a byproduct of the combat system.
Most players who engage in combat want to win, usually at all costs (who wants to lose?). Enhancements make it that much easier to win. Obviously buffing is a valuable service, so doctors can charge a handsome price for that service. Once the general population figured out why doctors kept asking for herbivore and avian meat over and over, the price of these materials, and others started to climb. Want to buy some 900+ OQ and PE organic? You're going to be paying through the nose unless you mine it yourself.
If you are a doctor, you know that many of the components and materials used in enhancement packs are also used in stim and wound packs. Doctors charge for buffing, and they sell their stim and wound packs....why would you expect them to consume valuable materials and their time by healing wounds for free.
When your average "Mr. Combat" dies from an overdose of vitamin F (flamethrower)...he heads to the medical center, plops his butt down and says "can ne1 heal me? plz?". Usually a couple of novice medics will rush over and start hitting him with "A" wound packs. Ten minutes later, Mr Combat is fully healed. He gets up and leaves. No tip. No thanks. Was probably AFK the whole time. The novice medics are usually happy. The xp got them a little closer to First Aid 3. Time to craft more wound packs.
Sometimes when Mr Combat enters the med center...he doesnt want to wait 10 minutes, he wants healed NOW. So he looks around for anyone who ISN'T displaying a "Novice Medic" tag. What a break! There's a <insert high level doctor tag here> in the corner. Mr Combat runs over and spams "can u heal me? plz?" two or three times. The doctor takes notice, targets Mr Combat and starts his /diag macro. Health is 500 points into the black, everything else is single digits. "I can one-shot his health wound with an E pack" the doctor thinks..."or three shots from an old B pack should do it".
The doctor says "Sure, I can help you. That's a nasty heath wound you have there. Would you agree to 1 credit per wound point healed?" There's a pause...about 15 seconds....then comes Mr Combat's repliy: "**edit** do you mean?!? U charge 4 healing my wounds? You getting the xp. You should be paying me!" The doctor replies: "I asked for a pittance to be healed by a professional doctor. In the time it took for you to compose that last sentance, I could have healed you, and sent you on your way. Is that service not worth ANYTHING to you?"
What follows is an unintelligible string of trash-talk from Mr. Combat. How doctors are only doctors for the money, etc, etc. Meanwhile the doctor recieves a /tell requesting buffs at the starport. The doctor decides to meet his new customers instead of having them come to the med center and listen to Mr Combat. The new customers are grateful...they have planned an Endor hunting trip, and have been searching for doctors buffs for 45 minutes. The doctor buffs them, the hunters tip well. The doctor respond by healing their wounds, and by tipping a handful of old stim B's to their novice medic.
The sad thing is, many "Mr Combats" have novice medic already. For 10k to 20k the player could have bought a complete set of advance-component wound B's. They can heal their own wounds, but are too lazy or cheap.
Nialo, it's wonderful that you tip your medics, but when it comes to players tipping their healers, you are the exception, not the rule. I've watched too many players enter public hospitals sporting composite armor and exotic weapons, get their heals and run away. Put down your T21, and pull out your wallet. You can afford it.
I have no love for tumblers either, but I dont hate them unless they are AFK and begging for tips. I've helped out novice medics from time to time with my tumble macro, if nothing just to keep them occupied.
Sorry...time to get off my soapbox and go home....it's FRIDAY!!

That's similar to what I carry minus the foods (but have Bivoli and Brandy), I store less used stuff in my storage droid and some resources in the backpack along with crated and spare packs and carry an FWG5, 2 Scouts, DX2 and Sonic pistols and armor. I often only buff my town's citizens and guildies but when I'm in Theed I occasionally get asked to buff and end up having 15-20 customers (like the first day of the DWB opening, no docs were around).
I often get tipped when I heal people, I don't even ask for a tip.
Does that make me a bad or good doctor, There really is no black or white as you put it if you ask me.
When I sit in the med center and someone with a disease walks in and no one else there can heal it. They ask me. I then tell them sure for a price, and 10/10 times what comes next would be the equivilant of a 2 minute BEEEP on the radio.
BTW how big can your ignore list get? Mine is about 200 people large now..Is there a limit?
