Thread: A long time doc's take on the CU *complainers warned but welcomed*

well as a doc for the last 15 months i find myself torn by this set of changes to the profession........I originally picked doc for the healing ability's....SWG was my first MMO and going out in a newbie rancor group on dath and spending 80% of the time running like mad to save someone was a very rewarding gameplay experience for me, I honestly new nothing about doc being a craft profession in those early days and I had already decided to avoid crafting due to the steep learning curve involved....luckily for me a master doc bumped into me at some random moment and decided to school me in the ways of being a self supporting doctor. so after a "fast" grind up to master I finished off my skill points with artisan 0/0/0/4 scout 2/0/4/0 and pistoleer 0/4/0/0 allowing me to harvest all the resources myself and hold my own against most herb/avian spawns....but the reality of it was for me the crafting part of doc never really became a love of mine....to support myself I became one of the few doc's supporting the crafting doc's with thier needs, being well versed in the requirements of the profession made it easy to identify new spawns and jump on them fast to resell quickly to doc's that used skill points to maintain well stocked vendors of buffs and meds... i spent maybe 15 hours total as a SP buffer and 10 of thoseto grind out CM on a whim.. i never could stand the "tell hell" involved and the upset complaints when a buff would hit for 900...pre "Buff fix" of course....but to get back on the subject of the CU changes I'm finding myself understanding and agreeing with them after a period of shock and dismay...to finally again see groups of BH and rifleman spamming for a doc to join them on a hunt will be a good moment for me after having stuck with the long months of DOC=BUFF ME NOW GO AWAY.....

as a IMO and maybe a prediction of sorts to those long time lovers of all things medical and crafted but who wont be picking up BE to continue doing meds I offer this advice....help out your new med crafter community by using your experience to keep the best resources and meats in good supply after the CU goes live....i'd be shocked if the new schems change requirements at all but rather just shift over to BE...avian, herb and tat fibro..ect...most likely will still be as important as they ever were...and for my point of view very few current docs will make the switch to BE post patch....BE's seem excited and happy to be picking up a new market for free but most will be clueless to what is required of them to stock those meds.....but until its all said and done and we are loading up the CU on our servers for the first time this is all just a bunch of hot gas....and not good 990 oq reactive stuff either but like bad late night run to taco bell type gas...but thats another subject for another post.. *shuts up to read other docs opinions again*

personally... with the new system.... if im in a pvp group or see a group thats argo... first person to die will be the docs... not becouse i hate the cu but becouse they do the healing of the other combat types, best to get them out of the way, and an easy kill. less combat skill less armor less health = cheap points for pvp ranking. shug... cant live with them cant live without them.

POIZEN MIA news reports say she was last seen getting carried away by some creature called darth CU. many others are also missing. Please mail any info to swg's( we dont care department).

I was about to write a similar post.

I am beginning to find some peace in BE doing the crafting for docs. I'm a little concerned with how much of the chemical market they have (and how "in demand" it is), but in general, I think it makes some sense. I tried going MD/BE, and to be honest, the beginning of the grind was horrible. I gave up on BE after about a week. I thought I'd do BE to support my chef. Didn't happen.

I don't exactly like the idea of doctors being the SWG equivilent of clerics, though. They should have consumables for heals--every heal. My understanding is that "enhancers" will make you more proficient, but are more like taking food..which makes me think--shouldn't they be a food or drink? Now, if these enhancers make a difference on the order of magnitude similar to the difference in applying a band-aid to an ouchie vs. performing neuro-vascular surgery...then that probably will make more sense.

Overall, though, I am looking forward to the CU. This character (Jalinsol) will probably drop TKM and go another route (I like armor). My doc character may stay a doc, but I haven't decided for certain.

Well that may be the case, but what a lot of people are forgetting is we get HP, defenses, and Armor bonuses. I think it's going to be much harder to take down a healer when the CU goes live compaired to now. But either way we have always been the targets in PVP.

HP, defenses and Armor will only get you so far if you can't fight back...
sure would be nice to have a few weapon certifications.

I am rather sure any doc PvPing will have some fight class to tack onto it or CM. So I think a doc in PvP will be no more of a push over than another two fight class combo. In fact, with thier damaga healing I suspect that a TKM/doc vs TKM/Fencer, for example, would be a win for the doc. (just my guess).

As for me, I just want to lay some crafting smack down on some BE's. They will never know what hit them when I step in with a few mil units of the best resouces our server has ever seen. Not to mention my 12pt outfit that they cant afford yet.Doc dabler for the win. /flex

I would think that an effective PvP strategy would be to focus first on the healers... since they'll probably only be healing and notfighting, there is less problem with resistance. Plus, they'll probably be the designated healers of the group, so it'll just turn out to be "can we getin hits on the healer faster than he can heal himself"... since the other group members more than likely wont "heal the healer".

Then again, I suppose this has always been the case with PvP combat. The basic difference being now everyone has a designated role, whereas before people could multitask.

Well....it all depends on how you play. When my group goes out to PVP I just equip a pistol and run around acting like I shoot stuff, when I'm actually not doing damage. The only thing that tags me as a healer is I post on the forum and the little after effect of a heal (little white emote thing). People see that and change targets, but I run around so much that more people don't waste their time. PVP is definantly gonna change, and honestly I don't see us finding out how it will change until it hits live. One major thing we are missing on TC5....Jedi.

The first person to kill in PvP is the CM. Now and Post CU.

Granted, docs will probably have combat skills... and keep in mind I'm not a combat-type, I'm one of the "I liked Doc because of the crafting aspect" crowd... but since grouping will now involve roles, it just seems as though the Role of doc will be "heal, don't fight".

I guess more testing needs to be done (one Elite professions are open) to see how effective a Doc is healing and fighting at the same time.
