Thread: Debuffs anyone?

Alright seriously we all know how insane buffs are now days and while I love it for PVE it's just plain retarded in pvp to try and kill people with 5k HAM. How about giving Master Doctors the ability to debuff players, you could make packs for certian stats and then just run up and bam give them a -1500 health shot for 30 minutes or something. It would def. make things interesting.

Or For the love of God give us the ability to atleast cancel our buffs nothing more annoying then throwing on a 3k buff in a med center for pvp then not being able to buff over it later out in ithe field.

As for insane buffs in PvP- thats being taken care of..the combat balence is going to change the whole system as we know it...buffs, armor, the stats, specials etc. Your problem of unkillablepeople will soon be over when the professions are for the most part fixed and the HAM system is corrected and balenced. Asking for a debuff to reduce a player's buffsis pointless, the reason why you are asking in the first place shows an issue with the core combat design, not buffs themselves..and that is being restructed in the combat balence.

as for debuffs, that sounds like a good idea, have a diaglog box pop for consent that says "_____ wishes to apply buffs over your existing buffs. continue?"

Huh? the original poster made two points....

1) Buffs in PvP are too high and it would be cool for a doc to have the ability to reduce a player's buff

2) If your trying to apply buffs and rebuff a person with lower buffs than what they have, you can't, and it would be cool if you could buff over a higher amount to rebuff someone in the field.

No mention here of applying smaller buffs at all...

And by the way, nightsisters have a force power that reduces your buffs by about 400+ points.

If debuffs were to be added (and I don't think it would be a bad idea) they should be usable by Combat Medics rather than Doctors. Although they are often used as a secondary support profession, Doctoris not a combat profession. Since the act of debuffing an opponent is a combat action it should be within the purvue ofthe Combat Medic rather than the Doctor.

Debuffs would be a complicated thing to implement. Having it as something like a Buff or Heal, that you can do to someone without their permission, would probably create room for lots of griefers. Having it as something a Combat Medic can do to an enemy, though, would be a nice touch in PvP. Make it so that buffed players weren't invincible.

It wouldn't be that hard to implement. Buffs have a timer soa debuff would just have to reset the bufftimer to 1 second and the buff expiration code would take effect with no changes. Setting the bugg timer to zero was my first thought but depending on how events are triggered that might result in some issues. Debuff applied to unbuffed players would have to buff timer to reset so there is no effect.

While I wish I shared your same enthusiasm for the Combat Revamp I do not. Realisticly speaking we are looking at early part of 2005 for a combat revamp thats 4-5 months away. Now then I agree with many people in that I'd rather them take there time and get it right than rush it and make it worse than it already is. Sadly though WoW will be out by then and while I've been a dedicated SWG player since beta I just can't see paying for something that the devs constantly drag out. Some people will keep waiting some won't. If they don't start making improvments NOW though personally I'm done and I know a lot of people feel the same. Hell just little things would be nice but they have completely ignored certian professions for months on end (yes doctors are not one of those professions).

Amen brother! The rebalance (if and when) has me shaking although the scary vendor nerf actually did seem to help. I would hate to have to have my TKM all of a sudden need help to get past the gate at a Fort Tuscan and I would hate to have my Doc applying lesser powered buffs, more often.

We'll see.

I like the player permission for a debuff that really makes sense.

I did. I also assumued that you'd read my post further up regarding how it should be a Combat Medic ability rather than a Doctor ability. Try reading the entire thread.

Point taken, NullTensor. I can see how the meaning of my post may not have been clear.

Is that latin, NullTensor? I can't remember as much as I used to, but it sounds more Italian? (Sorry for going slightly off topic.)
