Thread: We need consent for buffing!

I added this as my top issue in the Top 10 vote.

We really need an enhancement that allows players to give a Doctor consent before s/he can buff. Or, the Doctor must be a member of the player's group.

My character is a Master Doctor, and has been fora while. I am really getting annoyed at the number of times that I have walked out of a cantina (Coronet, especially) and there has been some newbie Doc standing there with a med droid that drive-by buffs me for 100 health/action.

To a Master, I consider that griefing, as my worst buffs are around 900, and on average I buff 2k-3k.

It's especially frustrating when I just spent 20 minutes getting my mind buffed by Master Dancers/Musicians so that I could go out on a hunting group, and now I need to DB/rez and do it all over again.

I'm starting to get into the habit of continually buffing myself just to make sure that no one else can do it to me without my permission.

That's Gameplay Issue #7, Enhance Griefing/Override. The Devs have responded that insted of requiring consent or grouping that they will be allowing us to override lower power buffs with new ones.

Thanks for pointing that out Zarlor. I re-read the top issues list 2 times to see if it was listed before I voted for it as an unlisted issue... and still missed it. Oh well. I'll go add another post in the Vote thread and fix my voting mistake so that it's clearer for Traigus.

I can't even explain in words how mad I was at the novice Doc that kept buffing me with low-level buffs even when I asked him, politely at first, to stop. I was shaking I was so mad.

Then vote for it as top 5.

Gameplay issue #5 on big list.

It didn;t make it into this Top 25, though, is the only problem. Is it Gameplay #5? My listings must be wrong. (Well, they are old, now, I guess.) The problem is you can't really vote for that issue as a Top 5 this cycle since it didn;t make it into the Top 25. However, Issue #21, Enhance Pack Variability, happens to have the same "fix" in allowing the override of buffs so you might consider a vote for that one instead.

Confessions of a seial buffer

Yes I am a serial, un-requested buffer.

However I am very careful of who I randomly buff.

I buff entertainers as they dance in a cantina

I buff people that I see surveying for resources

I buff people that have a Novice base profesion as thier title.

I buff non-combat and non Dr classes that I see are link dead

I may ocasionally buff someone that doesnt want it, but I do try to minimize that.

Dayln why don't you just buy a non ch pet, buff, store call buff bla bla instead of griefing people?

It's really bad form to ever buff anyone that hasn't specifically asked you to buff them. Really bad. Maybe someone has plans to hookup with their master doctor buddy in a few minutes who will be able to apply a massive buff. By stealth buffing, you're griefing that person and causing them to either wait your buff out or DB/rez (or even DB/decay).

I wear a novice title or no title all the time even though I'm a Master Doctor/Brawler. Titles don't necessary mean that that person doesn't have greater skills than they're letting on.

Before I became a master Doc, I wanted to buff anyone and everyone, since the experience was good and available (read:Less master surgeons to compete with).

But, I'd always ask before I buffed. I'd say about 95% of the time the buffs were accepted, and I didn't have to worry about angry tells later on. There were a variety of reasons some people didn't want buffs, so I am glad I asked.

I am at the point now where I feel like I should ask before doing anything doc-related on people. The other night, a guy was standing in the starport with a lot of mind wounds and a mind disease. He says, "lol I wonder how long this disease is going to last?". So I figure I will be a nice guyand cure his disease. I then get a string of abuse from him, since he got the disease specifically so he could go twink entertainers in the cantina! Needless to say, you're going to have toASKthis doc to cure disease from now on.

No what everyone really needs is an option to drop a modifier stack.. Since we can now see the modifiers on our stats we need an option like cleansing. This comes in handy for Ninja buffs, or those people who went to one doc and got buffed and one stat hits real low and they find another doc and have them re-buff after they cleansed it. Its either that or to have Buff's Override the previous buffs, but this would not be practical as it leads to too many exploiting problems. I say go with an option to drop a buff or give us the ability to make a medication that will erase a buff or cleanse our patient.

that opens up a whole 'nother can of worms. patients that request/demand you drop an enhance and rebuff because you didn't hit for 3000. or exploited by grinders that buff then debuff, repeat. i realize there are other grinding 'tricks' (ie, tumbling) but this just adds another one to the stack.

now stacking buffs, that's where its at. it would have to have a cap of course, wouldn't want someone running around with a 20k ham(or would we?)

I'm a Medium Doc right now, my buffs suck as I don't have the med use skill to use anything higher than a Buff B atm, ninja buffing just isn't worth it in my opinion, looking at the amount of time/resources it takes to make even low lvl buffs and the relatively low xp you get from crappy buffs.

As my buffs suck, though I have a full set, I have upon occasion inflicted them on people.

/shout Free Crappy Buffs!!! Come one people, Free Crappy Buffs.

That's basically it, other than running up to people and asking them if I can stick 'em with crappy buffs, I'm not gonna stoop to true ninja-buffage, and for Doc, I'm hesitant to use the tumble-to-stand, for Medic - fair enough... but I want to be able to take a minimal amount of pride in my Master Doctor title when I eventually get it

To all you true ninja-buffers reading this. Crawl in a hole and die. You degrade our profession and damage our business!
