Thread: 1 Box from Master Doctor, Thinking of quitting (the game) READ.
This message is directly aimed at the developers, and it is regarding the absurd rarity and cost of advanced resources required to make advanced medical components.
The issues with these resources completely marginalizes doctors in the game. These issues are, in no particular order:
- Parity. An armor or weaponsmith may also require "elite" hard-to-find components to manufacture something. However, they can sell the end result of that crafting for 50-200,000 credits. Doctors can buff someone for 1,600 H/A and receive a 500-1,000c tip. That barely allows you to break even on the time and resources used. Spending 1 hour making wound packs that barely last 1 hour in the medical center but gobble up 20,000 credits' worth of resources? I call bull****.
- Time Sink. Well, every aspect of a MMORPG is a time sink, but Doctors are doubly so. The time required to collect these insanely rare resources, then manufacture factory crates of them only to produce an item with 10 uses on it is madness. To enjoy the benefits of making & using Advanced components requires a time investment putting the game well beyond a casual to moderate player.
- Resource shifts. It isn't bad enough that we require hard to find resources in the first place, but moving them around every few days makes it doubly frustrating. The surveyor/harvester Artisan players that collect these materials find themselves having to play SWG like a full-time job to stay ahead of it. They pass their frustration down the line, charging us per-unit fees that basically have us playing the game at a financial loss. If you don't run a ton of missions with your 2nd elite combat profession, or do *SOMETHING* for money other than heal/buff people, you're in a world of financial hurt.
I found the profession to be enjoyable at first, but now I find it largely unrewarding. I had 264,000 credits in the bank 4 days ago. I now have 1,740 as a result of buying cheap resources to grind medical crafting on, and good resources to make my first factory crates of components on. Those components are all gone, used up. I have nothing to show for it but a dozen hours of wasted time.
As the leader of my PA, and the person who deeded the PA hall, I am screwed. Nine lots. gg, thx SOE. Wonderful. I ca place 1 chem factory, and that's it.
As for harvesting resources, I don't think they are "insanely rare", you just have to make it to the planets to find them. Well, maybe for Advanced CRDMs, but I don't use those anyways. I manage as many as 4 medium harvesters [will eventually be 4 heavies] at a time and only check them every few days. This isn't so bad. Production isn't hard to deal with when you have to produce more than 50 of a sub/stim at a time, it gives you time to do other things while you wait.
Lastly, regarding your PA hall placement, that's all on you. A PA hall is huge and is not something to be placed by a crafter... to put it lightly tho a little harsh, you should have known better.
I'm sorry if one profession with bad experiences has spoiled you on the game as a whole, I think that you would enjoy a more combat oriented character.
I ama master doc on tarquinas,I didnt even intend becoming one but ppl started tipping me for healing them and I took it from there.Currently I have over 300k of resources, medium house on tatooine,6 laser carbs,4 large harvs,8 medium harvs,2 factories and various crates of items plus 500k in the bank.I think ur main problem is the fact you cant run more than 1 harvester for yourself.I built my business up purely from chatting to ppl and by selling high quality paks at reasonable prices.I only use the best quality resources I have at the time to make paks for my vendor and the customer can see this by comparing with other vendors or paks on the bazzar.I am sorry you feel the way you do,I still get a buzz when a 990+ OQ resource pops up on the planet (makes you think how its gonna improve your action enhance D-Paks lol).I can also make easy money by selling low quality resources on the bazzar at 2 creds per unit, they sell out within a day.As per the previous post maybe you should try a combat class cos its takes a different mindset to play a doc successfully, just my 2 cents but I hope you find a class that you enjoy and stick with the game ![]()
ps leave droid engineer alone lol ![]()
The majority of the money you are earning is coming from the fact that you are an artisan / surveyor / miner first, and a doctor second.
Your profit is coming from mining a resource at .2cr a unit, and selling that same thing for 5-6cr a unit or more, and ironicially what you sell the most of, is most likely stim bs - the equivalent of a master archetect making personal harvesters for a living.
Selling resources is also unrelated to making money as a doctor.
Why can i not make money for HEALING! esp wound healing? That is what a doctor does.

Docs are not a casual players class. No crafter is. If you want to heal get the pharm/first aid lines in medic use stim Ds and leave it at that, you can better use the 70 some points elsewhere. I am a CM DR and Pistoleer I find that being a Master of an ELITE profession is very rewarding. I am a rebel (hate all you want) and with my own buffs I am very near untouchable. Today at that little impy thing outside bestine I killed 3 PCs and 2 NPC Stormtroopers. Being heckled as a cheater by most, and bowed to by others. I was in the end slain by an NPC Stormtrooper, losing no faction points whatsoever. I then got another MD friend of mine to come, we buffed and owned the thing killing 6-7 PCs per trip. I really enjoy this aspect of being a doctor, that it can improve my PvP so much. HOWEVER I had to work my ass off to get there. and I do realize that on different servers it is different regarding resources. But if you would drop your PA hall and place yourself a small house and 9 harvies you would fuind it LUDICROUSLY cheaper to make a Dr. or to do anything really... power is HUGE seller know what you can do with 9 fusions? they are costly to get but will make you plenty in return, think about it before you quit.
In reply to your post Marzuk I make 95% of all my credits selling MEDICAL paks.My best sellers are stim-C's,stim-D's,crates of items plus enhance D-paks.Docs cannot live by buying resources from the bazzar because most ppl selling on there have no idea about the quality required by crafters. Its all 200-300+OQ selling for 3 creds per unit.I never see large amounts of herbivore or avian meat for sale and its mostly low quality anyway. Its not easy to attain master doc as most of you will know, the doc/artisan classes go hand in hand at the moment because I have to have a vendor and I have to be able to survey for resources.I can make 3k a time selling full enhances in cities but here the shortfall in high quality meat rears its ugly head again.I have never sold a resource for more than 2 creds per unit unless it has been of an insanely high quality, with regard to adv item resources I try to swap for other resources unless forced to sell.I am forced to gather my own resources to obtain the quality I need to make the paks I sell.I have always used the best resources I have to make my paks and will continue to do so.I have master medic/master doctor and 3 business boxes from artisan so how can you say I am an artisan????? I only have artisan because I am forced to by the game,if and whenever docs get a survey skill or the ability to buy a vendor from droid engineers I will drop artisan but until that day I will stay as I am or my business will suffer.
ps I have made 60k a day from healing wounds, etc in busy med centres.you just have to look for the busy ones.
pps building ur shop on the route to fort tusken is also good for business ![]()
I'm still amazed that we are trying to compare a doctor to a say weapon/armor smith... I'm not saying I don't aggree, but I am saying that an FWG5 built with all advanced components will last its owner for what couple months easy? Then I make a EnhanceHealthD, with all advanced components (yeah right, roll the bones boys you have a 1 in 1000 shot all the resources you need are all available at the same time), I take that back, after weeks of surveying, harvesting, and untold fortunes on travel expenses and psychological counseling and anger management I have the sub-components to make an EnhanceHealthD. So I make it and it lasts me what? A day? That's assuming I only use it on like me.. heh.. Maybe me and a close friend.. If I hoard the kit for only me or my tank (assuming one) well, maybe 2 days. =) What a bargain huh?
WooHoo! I spent weeks assembling resources, and now I can make Maybe 30 of these packs..
Which will last for maybe a month is I ration HARD.. Now mind you, I can't sell any... Oh no... Then I would have credits instead of medz.. And I don't need no stinking credits I NEED MEDZ! hehe I'm a frickin doctor, I'm not a bloody artisan!! I should not work on the same system as artisans, plain and simple. My products are VERY limited use, and EVERYONE needs healing. I expend double what I can possibly acquire on any given day just by going out and playing.. So sad... I say up ALL medical packs to a minumum of 100 charges baby, and advanced ones should have 1000... That's right, I said it, give me some reason to go out there and kick in some shanties in search of resources... Give me some reason to try and sell some medicine...
Because I can sell that novice medic a 100 charge stimA..... So I don't have to sell him 15 crates of crap every week... Make my FullAdvEnhanceHealthD worth me going to the extremes I must to construct it... Pistoleer gets to shoot off his adv cap pistol about a million times, where is the harm in letting me enjoy mine for a thousand! ![]()

No offense meant original poster... but I don't think you've learned to play this profession properly. I'm sure you think you have and that getting so close to Master Doctor is the "goal"...
...but it isn't.
Master Doctor isn't just about credits, harvesters and scavenging tips. It's also about establishing a reputation, a medical supply business and being sort out by people for not only your buffs and your medicine.. but also as an irreplacable member of a team.
No body else can turn the tide of combat engagements as much as a doctor. With your buffs, your ability to resus corpses... and your ability to heal pets and creatures to full health with little effort.. you are invaluable to the success of missions and expeditions.
You can augment doctor with a combat profession for a ready cash supply.. then convert totally to support once you've established a sustained reliable business. With a few well placed harvesters you can supply the bulk of your medical needs and buy the rest at 3cpr on the bazaar (or better still, hook up with an Artisan and do a deal with them).
I think you need to have a re-look at what doctoring is all about... there isa lot more to this game but you have to go out and find it.
And once you have found it... make the most of it.
This is what I am working on now... I'm currently a Doctor/Riflman [Master/[1/0/0/0]], but I'm working towards Buisness 3 now [easy going there] and then on to CH so that I can focus more on my Doctoring skills in big game hunts.

Actually if you knew about the weapon decay now you would know that about every 6-10 shots of the weapon will degrade it by a point. So you will get 6000-10000 shots if it had 1000 condition to start with. 10,000 shots is not that much, as I can wear down a FWG5 in about 3-4 days of fighting. Sure I can get it repaired, but it seems that one out of every 5 repairs will destroy the weapon, so you don't know if you will be able to repair it 10 times or none at all.
Now for an Enahnce D pack, I don't know about you, but I get 20-25 charges out of the ones I make. With those lasting 3 hours I only use 1 a day on myself as I dont' play more than a few hours a day. So that batch will last me a good 2-3 weeks. Now if I was buffing 1 other person yes I would only have a supply for 1-2 weeks, but that will still outlast my gun I use.
