Thread: Publish 8 Testing Feedback: Enhanced New Player Experience

I really don't think starting a new player in those horrible spam-cities is a good idea. Start them somewhere a little more remote, like Doaba or Daeric. A new player's first experiance should not be learning the ignore command to get rid of the huge number of spammers!
This could work...
If you get your first shuttle-ride for free the problem in starting a little remote isnt that bad.
At least if its on one of the starting planets.
This is old hat for you, but for new players coming into the game, we have an enhanced new player experience. The idea is to take that first experience after walking out of a Star Port for the first time and give it a little more direction. The objective is make the first few steps into Star Wars Galaxies a little more exciting and focused when the virtual world is new and wide open.ffice

· New players will start the game in cities with a proven population of veteran players.
· New players will be taught how to advance in their chosen profession in a way is fun and interesting.
· New players will have the ability to easily do the same with any of the other base professions.
· While learning about their profession and having fun advancing, new players will be able to earn credits and fun rewards.
· New players will be introduced to more advanced and interesting aspects of the game such as mounts, vehicles, and player cities. This will include an option to learn more about how to obtain or get involved with these intermediate and advanced game systems.
Some of the core changes are:
Starting Locations: After new players leave the tutorial they will start in large and constant population of other players; Theed on Naboo and Coronet on Corellia. This will immerse players in a busy location where they can quickly and easily get involved.
Novice Profession Quests
When a new player enters the game world with their character, they will be given some fun quests to complete. These quests will have basic goals such as, “How do I gain scout experience?” To accomplish this, each of the novice professions will have basic quests that guide them through acquiring basic tasks and explains how to get the various types of experience points for each of the novice paths.
Helper Droid
Another element to the enhanced new user experience is a helper droid. This helper droid (a MouSE style droid) will answer questions, provide information, and help the new user accomplish their goals.
Whenever the helper droid is unpacked, it can be asked multiple questions about the starting professions the new player currently has as well as some introductory questions about other professions. The information will be supplied in a concise and informative manner without bombarding the new player with an over-abundance of text. As much as possible, the information given will tie directly into the existing Holocron database of information.
Did you play through any of the enhanced new user experiences? Which ones?
What did you think?

I didn't get a MouSE droid but an R2.
Marksman quests worked fine and it's fun, even for experienced players. Then I decided to try the Scout quest. Up untill the "Craft a camp and deploy it" quest it worked fine. But when I deployed the camp I didn't receive my reward, nor did the R2 update it's message.
Unfortunately I didn't have enough time (and money... hehe) to complete the other quests.

I would like to suggest that these not be directly in the midst of spam central, because new players are likely to have trouble completely logging into the game world for the first time. (maybe the lobby area of the starports?)
Did you play through any of the enhanced new user experiences? yes Which ones? brawler
What did you think? it was broken at the time (only had time to do it once), but the patch notes addressed many of the issues I had ![]()
I like that a lot better than reading through all those quests with only the sound of rain or vehicles on the background. So add more background music!!!
I highly doubt new player will be using music programmes right when they start.

I think the mouse droid should be an annoying paper clip that pops up when you least need help. Oh wait, another company already copyrighted that.
Seriously though, I'd like to see Bestine added to the list as many people identify Tatooine as THE Star Wars planet and would probably like to start there.
Cant say I like the limited choices in starting locations. I started every one of my characters in Dearic and loved it. I also spend time there since it is easier to find new characters to help.
Corellia and Naboo might be too populated and people would more likely be overwelmed in my opinion.
I have played through with a new character doing the marksmen and the artisan as a newbie. My feedback is: Great job!! I love these new quests. I really like the rewards, they are a huge help for a new player with nothing in getting started. I also found that getting new starting equipment for taking a second profession to be a real benifit, it makes the game SO much easier when you have few to no skills and no money to get going with.
Again, love these new quests!

I agree! Maybe make Coronet and Theed the default locations, but give players an "advanced" option to start in other cities?
Also, for roleplay purposes, would it be possible to have the "birthplace" and "birthdate" fields in our character window fixed? ![]()

this is supposedly being worked on in conjunction with the ability to not show 'online' to potential enemies and/or griefers...

This is 100% correct.
