Thread: State of the Game... more info...
I'll respond to some of the more popular questions about the State of the Game here:
Why is the Jedi Revamp being done before the GCW revamp?ffice
ffice" />
Two reasons: First, the GCW revamp is a long-reaching, complex set of changes. It will take awhile to define, design, and implement it. Along the way, each publish, we are working on fixing broken things with the GCW to make it more fun. The large overhaul is a mid-term goal. Second, we really want to stop the hologrind. We feel that AFK macroers are not healthy for the game. We want it to stop as soon as we can. And yes, we are aware that we are the ones that put the system in place. This was not what we intended, but things have evolved to this point.
Why is the combat balance being put off?
The combat balance is another massive overhaul. We want to get a lot of player feedback from it, and make sure we have it right before we put it in the game (to avoid another Crafting Experimentation situation).
Why are you not fixing my broken profession now?
We ARE going to do a round of bug fixes for all combat professions, and try to fix the major broken things with each. Keldarin (Live Senior Systems Designer) has a thread in the correspondent’s forum right now asking what they want fixed. Talk to your correspondents.
That is still not enough, fix MY profession.
The letter states: We want to make sure that we enhance and fix the existing professions … We mean just that. Each publish, and a lot of the mini-publishes will contain fixes to the existing professions. There are 34 of them. It is taking some time but we want to fix them ALL.
Why don’t you fix X bug before you do Y?
Priorities. We have many many many (many) different viewpoints on what needs to be fixed first. This is why we have developed our system of establishing priorities. Every publish, and in-between,we fix aton of different things. Who sets the priorities? Essentially you do, for a lot of them. There are three different feeds into a specific set of development tasks:
1) Your correspondents. They tell us what needs to be fixed with the game, specific to your professions, as well as how they relate to each other.
2) Customer Service. They look at their tickets, and decide what is causing the most problems for the most players. They have a priority list of things that they think need to get fixed for the game from a scale point-of-view.
3) Quality Assurance. They play the game endlessly, and have a fantastic feel for what is not working right. We get a top 10 list of their most-desired fixes as well.
Why are you editing/ deleting my posts?
We're not. The star rating is being used rather actively in the responses to the SOG letter. One star postsmay be below your viewing threshold. You can change it in your profile.
Thanks all for the questions,

Or are you assuming that 100% of the afk macroers are doing so because of holo-grinding?
If so, that is a false assumption.

Communication of any sort is a good thing JustG. I'd rather know your priorities than work in the dark. That said, I think there are a lot of simple, littlethings that could be tweeked prior to the big combat rebalance that would bring the game a little further into balance.
I'll try to post my own ideas on this soon and hopefully others will as well.
BabyRancor, those types of things are exactly what I am talking about. Yes we are going to fix alot along the way.

G a lot of our concerns arise from the timetable you laid out. Most professions are feeling "jilted" right now, because we/they can't see anything happening until after the Space Expansion. More to the point, Ranger's specifically have been waiting on things promised us since last August.
I posted comments in your state of the game thread, but Rangers have been left out of the loop for a long tie, and some improvements for us can help improve the entire game and economy. I have no issues with Squad Leader's getting so much needed attention, but for us to be behind Junk Dealers is very hurtful to the Ranger Community.
Respectfully,
JustG:
Any plans to incorporate Star Warsy things into the game?

You can fix professions and add dungeons with all sorts of cool monsters.... but, please add aStar Warsy feel to this game.
Do you all plan to.....
- Fix the bug where we warp 100m from a /dismounted vehicle?
- Fix the bug where we have to close extra "compose new message" dialogs?
- Fix the "repair bug" with vehicles when we take flights? So that artisans can sell the vehiclesagain?
- Fix the bug that prevents us from saving our profession tagwhen we set it to nothing?
- Let Wookiees use the C12 grenade that everyone else uses for combat xp?
- Give us a reason to use creature mounts like a+25 terrain navigation (or more)?
- Save the positon of the combat queue so we don't have to shift it around everytime we login?
???
Game breaking? Maybe not. Extremely annoying and has been in the game forfar too long? YES.
Thanks for the response JustG...excellent as usual...
One thing I would like to request though...you mention that you want to "fix" issues in various professions...I'd like to challenge you and the other Dev's to look past "fixes" in some cases...I'll give you an example...
Recently the Dev's fixed the Heavy Acid Rifle (HAR) for Commandos...Before the Fix, the HAR was a broken fairly useless clone of the Flame Thrower (FT) that Commandos rarely or never used...After the Fix, the HAR is a fixed fairly useless clone of the FT that Commandos still rarely or never use...
Will there a be a possibility of weapon revamps if we can't get overall profession revamps in the near future? I know you have your hands full, but "fixing" something isn't always the best answer...time was wasted by the programmers fixing the HAR when that energy and time should have been channeled into revamping or replacing the HAR...
Just some thoughts...

Meaning for the Ranger profession:
1) NRaas did an amazing job, he was several times named as an 'example' for a really good profession correspondent and as such you should have an extensive insight on what is wrong with the ranger profession including a 'vision' what it could be (the outdoorsman proposal, containing quite some things that were promised months ago)
2) A profession that severly lacks content and real usefulness, seen as 'SP-theft' (140 sp in total to hit master ranger, while we would be better at creature hunting with the 15(?) points for novice scout and all the rest pushed in things actually helpful to be 'the ultimate creature hunter') basically won't pop up here regularly. Simply because noone besides a small few persons pick it (letting aside the dabblers in tracking) as it is widely seen as a 'waste of skillpoints'.
3) How many of those are "Master Ranger"?
