Thread: Weekly Roundtable Discussion (Week Ending 4-26-04)
Last Week'sThread:
Welcome to the Weekly Discussion Thread. This thread is for commenting on general live issues, asking questions and reporting known issues.
I personally feel that armor in this game has gone very off-course from its original intention and is severely borked and needs a revamp - as TH seems to also agree. There are many great posts on this subject. The basic idea is that armor looked to have been designed so that different types would have different types of resists. Each would have different vulnerabilities also. None would have more effectiveness qualities and none would have less vulnerability qualities. All would have a max cap on effectiveness and there would be large HAM penalties for extra layering above the regular resist levels.
Most of us agree I think. The problem is when a combat system is based on percentages and you get 80-90% reduction and then put in skill tapes, etc, you get closer and closer to 100%. The closer you get to 100% (especially in all categories), the game ceases to be fun because their is no challenge.

Please confirm nerf or bug."
Got this same message w/ 2 crates I have in mybackpack last night... one crate has 10 pu's and the other has 1... my inventory nor my backpack are full... andwhen you double-click on a crate in the backpack the item goes into your inventory. I used these just the night before...

I ask again, why have you disabled the style tag on the forums?
Greif.Someone used it as a way to hack our boards last week.

MOB warping makes baby Jesus cry. Well, makes my shout anyway. I hate when an NS Elder decides she's had enough, walks off towards a tree and suddenly is 150m away from me and up a hill. Especially as the only terrain negotiation I had was the lance I looted off her predecessor
Well, we added an upgrade to NPCs to solve the problem where they would get stuck on harvesters, cavern ledges and other world objects. Since then, there has been an increase in warp sightings. I can't say for sure that its related and no t incidental, but it is something the team has been actively working on.
Without watching how you play, what server you play onor knowing the crafting stats, I can't even make a guess. Its important to know how you play and the crafting stats on the item (both starting and finishing). Although I will say that its not unusual to take a lot of chest hits. Its not all that different from PnP gaming and "to hit" locations. Though I don't understand the increase in "boot" hits...

Why do my chestplate and boots decay faster than the rest of my armor? I mean its all insured, but where all my other armor is still at 80% my chestplate and boots just got knocked down to 0%.

I understand everyone's frustration in this matter and maybe i'm in the minority of players that are not interested in unlocking (anymore). But the dev's made it pretty clear a long time ago that they will not ever tell us in any way how the slot will be unlocked. Even at the height of holo looting in november/december the dev's kept their mouth shut and danced around the fact that the first jedi would unlock solely from mastering 5 professions. The almost falsely indicated that there waas other routes without actually saying that there were.
If and when TH gives us an update on the new path to jedi, it is bound to be a short paragraph telling us that a major change has been implemented to the methods to unlock your slot, or if I understand correctly, the methods which your current toon will aqcuire force powers. They will never tell us directly that we can still grind to jedi or that we can no longer grind to jedi. If you are that concerned about getting jedi and want to know if you should grind or not grind, then all I can suggest is that you grind out everything you can before the jedi revamp publish (10?).
I really do not think that the new system will be solely based on grinding professions, but it will be a long path.A general concensus of players heredon't think they want new players buying the game and getting jedi accounts within a month. The same consensus does not see nearly the same number of jedi in the game this time next year. So there's probably a good chance that the new path will be hard and many will fail. It will probably require you to complete many tasks that will make you a very well rounded player. Chances are some of the parts of your quest will require mastery of a profession. Possibly even re-mastery.
This is correct.
- If you are a Jedi with 2 slots, you will keep them and still be a Jedi in the new system.
- If you are not a Jedi, and have mastered X number of professions then some level of advancement through the system will be included based on how many professions you completed.

What happens to the holo grinders that haven't unlocked?
They get to play through the new quest system in Publish 10.

OK, here's what we are going to do in tomorrow's update:
You will get 75 items per lot, instead of 25, up to a max of 250 items per house.
No vendors nor their contents will count against the house limit.
Factory crates will count as 1 volume, not 5.
We realize this doesn't get you all the way back to where you were, but it should improve the situation. A fuller solution cannot be accomplished by the morning, which is why we're only going this far. We want to do as much as we can as quickly as we can.
There are other things that we can and will be doing, but they will take longer.
(Since I am sure someone will ask: why not just roll back the code? Because it was multiple integrations and changelists, and it'd be somewhat hairy. This is safer).

I am going to make this short and to the point.
- What is the "fuller solution" and when can we expect its implementation?
- What "other things" are being done to help us out with housing storage?
- Can you make some kind of statement to the community about what is being done?
Maybe you should get in contact with Raph Koster and see what he has to say about his statements.
Axiously awaiting your reply

Keep in mind that since the two systems are so very different, there isn't going to be an exact translation. We'll make a fair trade off from one system to the other. There ismuch concern, let me be clear:
- If you are a Jedi with 2 slots, you will keep them and still be a Jedi in the new system.
- If you are not a Jedi, and have mastered X number of professions then some level of advancement through the system will be included based on how many professions you completed.

Thanks... Wish you'd said that Friday. You scared the crap out of us.
Hooray!
what was the resoning behind taking them down?
why couldnt you have left them up while you "revamped"them?
I am a citizen of Edge Noir, one of the few battlefield cities left alive. Cities that were built to use the battlefields. Shortly after player cities were initiated you removed battlefields and said you would return them in 3-4 months. That was January, its now nearing the end of april and no word whatsoever on battlefields.
while you "revamp" is there anyway we can have the old ones back?
