Thread: Vendor and Stockroom Issues Pt 2
Thunderheart wrote:(and no, no one wiped out items to clean the database. thats just silly.)
Great -- then you should have no problem replacing EVERY SINGLE ITEM that was destroyed because of this, right???

I agree that it totally sucks -- but I'm not sure what can be done *practically*. Put yourself in their position. Someone tells you they lost a dozen laser fifles, or the deeds to ten large harvesters, or 100,000 units of OQ 995 steel. Do you just accept them at their word?
Now, if there's backups and records which can be checked, THEN, there's no excuse.
Putting myself in their shoes? Ok, fair enough, here's what I'd do:
1) patch the game immediately, removing all object deletion routines associated with vendors. Then make this a medium to low priority item to work on restoring in the test center over the next couple of months.
2) put out a very visible notice on the login page of the game, and in the login page of the forum, apologizing profusely for their incompetence and explaining the situation, and how it certainly will never happen again, and the steps they are taking to prevent it.
3) since reimbersement is going to be so widespread and would probably take months for them to analyze every claim, they need to come up with some, very reasonable, across the board way of reimbersing those who suffered such losses. If it were me I'd probably do one of the following:
a) reimberse all claims with some fixed number of credits like 100k (not near enough for some, like me, probably very very generous to others)
or
b) reimberse all claims in terms of time credit to their account. For example, one month of free play. This is probably the fairest thing, given that this is roughly how much game time many of us will have lost in order to restore ourselves to what we had before this loss.
Hey fudgepot... Pack sand.

Why don't all you Merchants top cheating the house limits by storing things in you vendors, I have to follow the rules and you don't. I can personally say I am glad these things are happening maybe if the items were up for sale instead of storage you guys would not be having this issue.

One free month of hell as reimbursement? There's a scary thought!
We're not going to be compensated for these losses? Say it ain't so.
There hasn't been a general announcement in the game regarding this problem. I'm lucky I came across this thread here. Now I can at least try and save some of my more valuable items.
Since I run a shopping mall with around 1000-2000 items in it, it's absurd to think that I'm going to remove all of this stuff to my inventory and restock it. It's also absurd to think that SOE isn't going to compensate me for this.

Sorry, but you are missing something. The items dissappear when there are 16 days remaining on the sale, which is 14 days after they were listed. Which is what we've been repeating over and over in every single thread on this issue.
Yes. I misunderstood. I could have sworn that somebody said it was when there were 14 days remaining. Sorry about that.
I still thinks its foolish to assume its the item cleanup code and then to deride the programmers for missing it because it's suppossedly "so simple". you didn't do that, but a number of other people have.
On a related note: here's a thought. Maybe the items aren't being deleted at all. Maybe there's a bug in the code that queries the data base when you display the vendor's items. Maybe the items are there but some check in the code that queries the database assumes that nothing is more than 14 days old and ends up skipping over those items so you don't see them.
Seems very plausible to me. But we won't know about that until 30 days have past and these "missing" items start reappearing in the stock rooms.

Only deeds and resources can be replaced? **edit**?!?!?! When I lost half a million units of resources ( a lot of it high conductivity/OQ copper) I was told that NOTHING could be replaced.

I have ZERO Vendors in my house. I have the house almost completly full of items. ALL THE ITEMS GONE. Sent in a response and got that only deeds and resources can be replaced. **edit** is that. I am now scared to **edit** to store anything in my house which means i have to be real selective on what i want to keep. This sucks. I have a few rare items that if they dissappeared i would be extremely p'd off. Ohh and best part is there is decay even with insurance so I cant use my character's storage for valuable armor and weapons that im not using. GRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Go to the control panel in your house and pull up the house status. You'll see the "count" of items in the empry house... In every case so far, the Items ARE STILL IN THE HOUSE. You just can't see em.
If there are any bags in the house, pick em up(I know they're empty, pick em up anyway)
look inside.... your stuff's back in em... pick up all your bags.
Next, go to the console, there's a new command that "calls" items to you... try it. The "Invisible" items will warp to you, one by one. & they'll be visible again.
Now, create a vendor. Initialize it. attempt to put stuff on it. You can't
Nice bug, huh..... yup. They fixed the 14-30 bug by prohibiting vendors from initializing any more.... what fun!
This is great, players sitting aronud speculating on possible causes of the bug, doing the debugging for SOE. You won't be paid any real-life cash, you won't get compensated in the game...Maybe Thunderheart will give you an 'atta boy though.

I don't know if that reply was to me. I already said it's pointless to speculate on what might be causing the problem.
In my case, I'm just annoyed when people assume they know what the problem is and start giving advice on how to fix it. So I pointed outa viable alternativeexplanation of the problemwhich completely contradicts what the "here's how to fix it" people, are assuming. My only point being to demonstrate how silly it is to be making such assumptions in the first place.
None of us could possibly know what the real problem is.
i'm pretty sure when most of us are suffering the same issue and come up with the same numbers that we know what the problem is...
untested code and devs that have "more important" things to do...

Here's a helpful hint.. turn off auto item deletion in vendors in a hot fix right now.. then, you can all scratch whatever it is that you scratch later as you figure out who forgot to do what and where you forgot to do it.
No online game in history has lost as much game data as you guys have!
First rule of first aid.. stop the bleeding.. check the breathing.. then diagnose and repair. Cripes!
Very very disappointing!

My stuff disappeared from my vendor stockroom, not from the floor of my house. Of course mine was during the month of October. I had assumed that the vendor stockroom expired after 7 days (same as sales), but all my stuff poofed in 4 days or less.
I work in customer service myself, and what we have with Sony and the CSRs is very poor. I would be curious to see how many accounts don't continue past the next month, as mine certainly won't.
but that only works if the items actually are being deleted. What if they aren't being deleted and the problem is that they are hidden from you? Then that accomplishes nothing.
