In the game, we see mention that spices and sliced items are going to be searched for.. and that we have a very limited time to get clean.
I'm running through the holos on a new account. All my current armor, weapons, etc have been bought at various vendors. I was in the process of tracking down enough Weapon Upgrade Kits and Armor Upgrade Kits to slice everythng I'm using when this announcement was made. The master smuggler in our group informed me that the only way he can tell whether an item is sliced is ... if it allows him to slice an item, it wasn't sliced.
If we're all going to be swinging from the gallows (or losing months worth of faction points) - then we should all be able to plainly see if items are sliced. And we should have a fair amount of time between when sliced status is visible and when the really-bad-stuff will automatically happen to us for running around with sliced items. As it is.. I'm being told that to be safe, I need to buy a new outfit and weapon - (if I can trust anyone selling items - as you can quickly picture people in alleys in Theed saying, "Pssst.. Kid.. want some great armor and weapons.. cheap?") and I won't know if any of it was sliced until I'm scanned.
What about amnesty? If we have sliced items - being able to turn them in to a certain NPC that will remove the slicing? (Marking it.. and making it so it can't be sliced again.. so the smugglers won't slice something 20 times until they get the best stats possible).
It's one thing to support the Emporer and occassionally give our lives in the battle against the overwhelming horde of scum sucking low life rebel offal of the universe - but to be so heavily penalized by some underhanded trick pulled on us by those scum sucking low life rebel offal - (selling unmarked sliced weapons to us) - or worse - at the hands of our Imperial brothers in arms.. is fundamentally wrong. However.. I'll gladly accept that fate.. if you'll allow me to slip sliced weapons unnoticed into the inventories of all those that con blue while standing around the starports .. just before they get scanned.
(Actually there's only 2 or 3 rebels I've ever met that I could do that to..
And the preceeding paragraph shouldn't be taken quite on face value as I don't think the only good rebel is a dead rebel - as they end up laying on the ground and smelling to high heaven. )

When I first heard the statement Imperial Crackdown I was thrilled! I had visions of Storm Troopers patrolling Imperial controlled cities, GM Events like a large army of Imperial forces storming places like Anchorhead, a known hive of Rebel activity. Finally, I thought, it willbethe gloriousominousEmpire that we know and the Emperors wrath would be felt.
You see... the majority of players (on LOWCA anyway, and most likely on all servers) are Rebel. I would even venture to say about 5 -1 Rebel to Imperial. So there is nothing to"rebel" against if you controlthe majority of theGalaxy. The thing that has been missing from the game... is the ominous overbearing threat of the Empire. Rebels run around Overt, Rebel guilds openly declare war and make themselves known... Imperial forces struggle againstAlliance Oppression. Sounds Ironic doesn't it?
Since the game was launched I have observed a systematic weaking of an already significantly outnumbered side in the GCW. Imperials started withharsh racial faction penalties, but had a nice selection of troopsespecially the AT ST. Now that theAT ST has beennerfed and you can only control one troop (sorry Colonel) one of the benefits for going Imperial is lost.
Now back to the "Imperial Crackdown"...
I was floored when I saw that the Imperial Crackdown was going to hurt an already wounded, bleeding and overly outnumbered Empire. The penalties for an Imperial caught with contraband are far more severe than those for a Rebel. Loosing 500 Faction and Rank? What?
This is how I would like to see the crackdown go...
"Citizenstandbehind the yellow line while you arescannedfor contriband," states VK-117. "Oh excuse me Colonel" /emote smartly salutes Kugan. Carry on with your business.
Then the Imperial would get a TEF for displaying his/her rank (unless already Overt) which makes sense. If a Rebel gets a TEF he/she should be attacked obviously... and... hmm how hard would it be if a Rebel faction member was DBedor incapped by the checkpoint to have them cloned in a prision facility with thier confiscated items in a Mag sealed container... that would make for some great roleplaying scenerios.A high ranking imperial officer should be able to throw his weight around and bypass checkpoints and only loose a small amount of faction... like 100 to "avoid" the situation.
The Check Points should be HEAVILY armed... or it will just be another faction building camp spot for rebels. I have seen a single rebel clear the Imperial Outpost on Talus. *sigh I guess those saps on Talus and Dantooine have lost shipment after shipment of faction scanners and turrets =( The Imperial checkpoints should come complete with faction scanners and enough firepower to make rebels hurt.
Oh let me throw one thing in here...sorry neutrals... like it or not you are citizens of the Empire and subject to its laws...
*But I can kind of see how this is going to go... Instead of something rebels will fear or avoid... they will probably form groups and just bounce starport to starport wiping out the checkpoints o_O
The second thing I would do is attack rebel strongpoints. It is all too well known that Anchorhead is a den of Rebel Activity. Why not have an Event where an army of Imperial forces swarms Anchorhead. Hundreds of STs, AT STs and AT ATs. AT ATs and AT STs would have built in Faction Scanners. They could also attack rebel player cities that openly proclaim their allegence.
I just don't understand how contriband is the big threat. . .
Give the Imperial faction something to rally around, give the Rebel faction something to rebel against.

Lt. Colonel (until I hit those checkpoints) Kugan Kar
Why isn't this guy working as a developer????????
