Thread: SWG Changes Part 3: GCW Occupation System
- PvP Enabled people will not get scanned at all. If its their same faction they are let go, if its an enemy, thats pretty much a moot point as they will immediatly get attacked.
- Anyone not PvP enabled for either factionshould get scanned, IF they aresmugglerthey get the benefits therein, regardless of Rank
So, if you are going out to pvp you can take your spices and sliced goods, but if you are just wandering around don't. I'm an Imperial Col, who used to be a smuggler. I've been looking a good while for a reason to go back smuggler, recent changes are giving me those reasons now, but still not enough. I think the above changes would also help with the unbalance to the smuggler community.

Additionally, if a Jedi is scanned s/he runs the risk of being exposed. Should this happen, the police may panic and call for help, bringing a very powerful force on the Jedi. Note that Imperial allied police will call forces to attack any Jedi, regardless of faction. Rebel aligned police will only call guards to attack Dark Jedi.
It was SOEs decision to make FRS faction based, and allow Jedi to pick factions. As long as the Jedi are part of GCW it does not make sense for factioned troops to attack them. A Jedi that is a colonel in the Imperial Forces should command respect.
Therefore, making the Dark Jedi be attacked by ALL is an unfair decision, and it would also give the rebel Jedi an unfair advantage as well. It is already bad enought that rebels outnumber Imperials (at least on my server), and the FRS bonuses favor the rebel Jedi over Dark Jedi, this would discourage even more Jedi from choosing the Dark side.
Furthermore, in regards to JTL, trainers for the imperial track are in imperial controlled cities (eg. Bestine), doing it this way would also lock out the Dark Jedi from JTL as there would not be a spaceport city where they would be safe where they can get missions etc. So, what have they spent their $29.95 for JTL for?
And, you will be locking out Dark Jedi from major planets.
Just too unbalanced and unfair.
I don't aggree. Both Vader and the Emperor were trying to get Luke to kill the other. There is a power balance there where only two actually work. Any more and problemsin that power order come up and destroy that balance.Any jedi, reguardless of their brightness, is a threat to them, even if that Jedi is high up in the imperial ranks. They become more dangerious that way in fact, the threat from within. One could argue that the system is flawed by allowing Jedi to be imperial, although they should be given the oppertunety to RP out trying to take over the empire even if it will never happen. Maybe the higher the rank, the less likely they are to be found out. Should they ever be found out, maybe boot them from the imperial ranks. They can then go rebel and try to take over that way, but the rebels will give them the boot just as quickly as empire would. Life as a dark jedi during this time would be harsh, more so than a light. I guess that is the price to pay for the black robes.
May people have problems with so many open jedi running around and just not being star wars. This may help those problems.

So, basically if a town has friendly Special Forces standing around, an onleave individual gets scanned and turned Combatant, Special Forces just watch while he shoots all the neighboring guarding NPCs. So theoritically he and his partners have a field day in enemy controlled cities. Great....really great.
My thoughts exactly.
What fun is watching some people who got scanned (and their friends) smoke your controlled city of all NPC's? And being totally powerless to do anything about it?
I also think the complete and total LACK of consideration for non-combat players (crafters, entertainers, what have you) to be very shameful. We have no way to defend ourselves from all of this, and it sounds like not only will we be scanned, REINFORCEMENTS show up to give us even LESS of a chance to survive an encounter. I already pity the Armorsmith who makes a vendor run and gets ganked and all his new armor is slightly decayed.
I don't look forward to being a non-combatant in this new system of NPC gankfests. I ended up with negative CorSec faction for going up on the Corellian Corvette once. As it stands now, CorSecs shoot at me every so often, sometimes a few at once. Sounds like I'll get detachments of CorSecs ganking me if I step foot in Coronet Cantina and get scanned. WHAT FUN - can't wait to play some music in there!
What about the non-combatants? Is our new place in this game to just...die for past mistakes before this new system was put in place? Though faction standing was a factor before, it sounds like it's going to be a nightmare now. What a hoot for the non-combatant, and what little fun to have whilejust trying to make a delivery or run your business.
Sorry to rain on the Combat people's parade, but there are lots of us who can barely handle a CDEF pistol. Think what you want of us, but we're not Combat people, and before this change was announced, it seemed like a viable way to play SWG.
I don't mean to come off harsh with this, but if you are not a combatant, dont join the war. I cant remember all of the changes but isnt there the civilian status you can go to, where you wont have to worry about rebel or imperials "ganking" you since you wont get set "overt" (or PvE Combatant I believe) to the npcs.
But my main response to your complain is...if you cant fight in the war, don't join it.
I NEVER JOINED A WAR.
I am neutral. Never once did I mention specificallyI would get ganked by any member of the Rebellion or the Empire. Those are NOT the only 2 factions that will affect these changes...people need to understand this.
I have faction rankings for various NPC's. One visit to the Corellian Corvette has put me at negative CorSec faction. I will therefore be unable to stand anywhere in Coronet once this system goes in, for deliveries, for business, for pleasure, for playing music/buffing in Coronet Cantina, etc. I will be scanned and I will be attacked, and reinforcements will be called on me, all while the only weapon I possess is a freakin' Slitherhorn.
This is not about the war. I want nothing to do with the war. I am just trying to run a business in this game.
This is about factional NPC's ganking me, just as I explained it, and just as Callandryl laid out in the thread. Please re-read and you will see what I mean. This is NOT just Rebel vs. Imperial, this is EVERY single NPC that has a faction attached to it, depending on the controlled city you entered.
So basiclly Rebel jedi get a Get out fo jail free ticket by simply traveling in rebel cities. Imperial jedi get what?

Some answers to questions I saw here:
Just wondering, why just these 3 planets? Why not all 10?
-Mostly a scheduling issue. Other planets could be added in the future.
Oh, and one more thing - is the Crackdown being removed? The cities listed as Imperial Stronghold cities on the planets ARE NOT the crackdown cities (ie - Kor Vella, Keren, and whichever Tat city has it, I haven't been to Tat in ages, Mos Entha, Mos Epsa, something like that).
-Those crackdowns remain.
How powerful [referring to reinforcements called on the Jedi]? Enough to put the Jedi's back into hiding instead of how it is now?
-Depends on the Jedi. But the reinforcements will be pretty powerful.
Answers on "Rebel/Imperial/Droid Loopholes" on scans please? I find it disturbing that you're expanding one of the single biggest problems with Smugglers not Smuggling especially in this great GCW change.
It'd be great if I could spend a few faction points and be able to shoot faster and harder than a Rifleman or craft weapons better than a Weaponsmith. Buy becoming high ranking officer in either faction, you effectively can Smuggle better than a Master Smuggler.
High-ranking officers get 100% scan evasion simply because they're not scanned. A Master Smuggler spends 21 skill points just to be able to smuggle at 95% efficiency.
Somehow, that doesn't seem right.

Hey! Check it out. The Smugglers' old friend the "Imperial Loophole" is back and he's brought his brother along: "Rebel Loophole"!
"The neutral police forces are loyal to the faction that controls the planet and some will conduct scans of passers by. The police will be searching for contraband such as illegal spices and sliced weapons (regardless of faction) or enemy agents and will fine or attack as appropriate. Running away from a scan will continue to have the same effects (loss of faction). High ranking members of factional armies will be safe from scans if their faction controls that planet."
I'm all for the Occupation system and the new scans and all that. Really. That's pretty cool. But with the new Smuggler change with buying faction points, it's going to be a lot easier to find Smugglers to buy your way to Colonel and now it doesn't matter if your Imperial or Rebel. And I'm sure the Droid Loophole still exists too.
Like I said, great change for the system. I love the Occupational system. But these penalties and punishments for breaking the law needs to be widespread.
The Devs gave Smugglers contraband scan evasion skills (95% chance at Master) but we're not getting a chance to use them. There now essentially 2 types of players that can now Smuggle (would this be a capitol "S" or lower-case "s", JustG?) better than a Master Smuggler who knows their profession inside and out and those 2 types of players get that skill without even spending a single faction point on it.
I'm very disheartened by this as a long-time Smuggler
Hmmmm...I didn't catch that. I would think that a faction would be more "up-to-date" on high ranking members of the opposing faction. I would think that high ranking members of a faction would be more noticeable, more exposed. I always thought this was one thing that the devs did right.

This seems inconsistent with the original post. So Kor Vella will be always imperial controlled because its a crackdown city and Bel Vistawill be always imperial because its a stronghold city? Is that correct? Or if theRebels take control of Corellia, does Kor Vella become an NPC battleground?
This isn't really a criticism as much asa request for information. Although, I'd rather it become a battleground or just do away with the crackdown all together if the Rebels are in control.
Thanks for any clarification you can offer.
