Thread: The Path of the Jedi: Reckoning of Effort

Ok folks, I am gonna try and help clarify a bit. I played on TC, and on TC2 to test this out. It really is pretty simple stuff.

In order to visit the village, the old man must come see you. Now according to TH, the old man will come visit within 1-3 days for the first group of people. I understand the traffic issue. Had you played on TC2 when it was instant access you would understand it too. It was so overloaded with people and laggy that you couldn't do anything. When you started doing your missions, the number of people there just led to your spawns getting killed and you being stuck doing your missions all over again, which I must say really sucks. Now some have reported Jedi being in there already with no old man visit. I can only assume this is because they are already Jedi and are exempt from the system. Now that all of that has been said I am going to try and help explain the way that you get the visit. It is a little confusing.

There are two ways to get the old man to visit you within the 1-3 day period. From whatI am drawing from THs posts, you would have had to complete these steps PRIOR to the patch, not after, hence no more profession grinding.

Method1: Completed 7 of the 8 Holo (or more appropriately worded, "Hidden") professions or unlocked between 9 and 10. This is for profession grinders who have not yet completed the New System.

Method2: Completed the New System for the invitation. This, at least on Test Center, was getting enough badges (and yes I confirmed the badges being necessary) to become "Glowy." There is really only one thing that is throwing me off here, and that was the statement in the FridayFeature about the Village that said something about "Meditating at the Shrine" being part of the requirements. It was a bit cryptic, and there was no evidence of a physical shrine on TC in order to get the old man to visit unless the "Shrine" is another word for one of the POI Badges and having that badge tags you as having "meditated" there.

If you have done one of those two things, you will have the old man show up within 1-3 days. 1-3 days is a pretty short timeframe all things considered, and was probably done so people would be hitting the village for the long weekend, at least the US Folks (that is speculation on my part about the weekend).

As far as FS Branch Unlocks, well that is strictly for the Hologrinders so they get credit for the work they had done prior to this publish. You would have had to either do at least 3 of your Holocrons, or been lucky enough to stumble across 3 of your "Hidden" proessions prior to this Publish in order to unlock 1 FS Branch. You get 1 extra FS Branch per "Hidden" profession completed.

For those that are upset about the number of professions required being raised from 5 to 8, well, I hate to say it, but the whole thing was supposed to be secretive, and it took quite a while before the Holocrons showed up to give us hints even. They also stated in the Jedi FAQ that the system was subject to modification without notice if the Devs felt it was needed.

As for the Glowy thing and the New System requirements, it is plainly obvious that TH is intentionally being cryptic about it. They did say in another thread (can't pull the actual URL off the top of my head) that part of it would be secret and part of it would be known. I can only assume that this is the Secret part.

Folks who unlocked between Pub 9 and 10, this part is specifically for you. You will get a visit from the old man within 1-3 days. Then you will need to kill 2 Sith Shadows that will spawn randomly sometime after the old man visit and aggro you. Kill them and loot them. You will get 2 Waypoint Disks.. Use them (one should work, one shouldn't). Go to the waypoint, There will be a camp with 3 Sith guys. Kill them and loot them. You will get another waypoint disk. This should be at the Dathomir Science Outpost. When you get there, chill for a second. A woman named Jamilia will run up to you... Talk to her. She will tell you that somewhere (either SE or SW) there is a village to go to. That is the FS Village, and you have completed the entrance quest. Talk to the XP converter person, and they will let you unlock your FS Branches and give you the Jedi XP to fill them. Then you proceed to the Exit Quest, the from there you go through the Padawan trials and you are a Jedi with another character slot. That is the gist of it for you all.

For those that are running around looking for the old man... Don't run around looking for him. He will seek you out. Go about 1000m outside of a town and wait. That is the bad part. He will not show up on your radar, but when he shows up, he will speak to you by name. Talk to him and take the crystal from him, tell him you will keep it safe. Then you are on your way as well. Sometimes shuttling from one city to another, then going out 1000m helps get him to spawn, but remember TH said 1-3 days.

This post is neither supporting nor defending the way the publish is being done, and I can't answer any questions about timeframes on those that are not in the instant group sadly, as this was not done on TC or TC2. This post is merely to try and convey the message in a more clear and understandable manner, so there is less confusion as to what is going on. All the information here is from my findings on TC and TC2 and from Official Dev Posts. However, due to the nature of the beast, some things may have changed and are surely subject to change, so they are not written in stone.

I hope this helps those of you that are confused, and may ease some of the tension out there. Whether you are upset or not, this is how it is for the time being. My advice is to try and not let it stress you out. Just go with it, perhaps post that you don't like it, but certainly don't give yourself an ulcer over it...lol. Many of us have waited a long time for this Publish, myself included. A little longer does suck, but at least the end of the wait is in our grasp, and is acheivable.

Best of luck to you all, and May the Force Be With You!

"Which did you like better? 'Jedi' or "The Empire Strikes Back?"
"Jedi"
"Blasphemy!"
"'Empire' had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, find out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All 'Jedi' had was a bunch of Muppets."

How are we supposed to play the game the way they intended when they keep changing it half way through? Piss poor planning makes for piss poor results.

im willing to bet a melon that the old man wont be turned on till friday. that way all the existing jedi can run around the village and collect their 1337 lewtz while everyone else gets shafted for a few more days.

Preventing the old man from seeing you will help traffic problems with the village, but there are things to consider. 1st of all, there prob. wont be as many ppl going to village as on TC2 in live. Second, there will be alot of people on dath today, and there will be many people there for the next few months regardless. I see little point in having people go in as "groups", as one cant finish the quest in a few days, nor is there any reason to leave dath (rancors anyone).

TH, Please respond with a clarification of some things real soon to stop the flames!!

There's just too many questions about so FEW posts that it's gettin kinda old! There should be at least one dev that has the green light to respond to some questions to help curb this non-stop rant! The very worst thing is not knowing what's going on and just guessing. I've scoured the forums and don't recall seeing even one post from a person receiving a visit today, reguardless of the category theymight be in!!?? Can this be right? BUG? , Planned gating for groups 1-4 that will start someday soon? We're told to hang out away from any town, but for how long? I'm pretty sure I may have some items that will fall off my vendor, and I'll have to find a place for em before a week is up, or they'll be deleted right??

Please, open the info wallet and hand out a lil more, and maybe next patch, have a dev watch posts afterwards for a considerable time to offer new info and put out some flames

When enough people have completed their path, we will open it up the village to the next group. Groups 1 – 4 will qualify for a visit when the village traffic has died down. Of course, if you qualify for the visit under the new system, you will automatically be granted a visit from the old man.

Always.

I don't think this implies that Groups 1 - 4 have to wait for weeks. But an official clarification is in order to stop 40+ pages of the same question.

i dont think me posting this will make any difference at all considering the unbelievable volume of hate posts, which are all fully justified.

my story.

Started the game 26th December 2003. Sure not from the start, but its been a good 9 months of play, which is £35 + 9 x £15 = £170. about $270??

I bought game because, yes, like many others, I wanted to be a jedi in an online star wars game. It says on the box i can, but £170 later i still cant.

I never bought into the hologrinding. I thought and still think it was the downfall of this game. People didnt do professions because they wanted to, they just wumphed their way thru them all. Flooding the market of crafting items while they did that. People would grind a crafting prof, and churn out hundreds/thousands of items. No one doing the craft prof as a proper gamer (grinding is not playing the game, its treating it like a job) couldnt make a living, thus no point.

The fact that you have given even MORE credit to hologrinders is a very bad move. Sorry hologrinders but... think about it.

Why on earth would someone tune into the force just because they learned how to make armour and weapons, fight like a ninja, knock holy lumping f*** out of rancors and krayts? further to this why would making over 500 cartridge belts make a person a "master" tailor. The system was screwed from day one. This move just buried it.

I done 2 holos. One was a prof i had already started (yay for me) and the other was done out of not knowing what to try next. I had some badges, done some missions, enjoyed a lot of the game, whilst despising the other side of the game.

I stopped playing 2 months ago due to the frustration of not being able to get what was promised on the box. Jedi. I kept my account running (read: i continued to pay you) to try publish 10 when it went live. I wish i had cancelled back then.

Now dont get me wrong, there IS a problem with MMORPG and players being Jedi. Of course you cant have 1000 jedi's on a server. It would be rediculous. BUT, you all knew before the game was launched that jedi would be the ultimate goal, so what did you think was going to happen? Someone posted earlier about it NOT saying on the box its going to cost $X to get jedi, and its a very valid point.

Anyway, I had no idea what publish 10 would be like, so ilogged on today and read a few things. I cant believe I DIDNT see this thread at first. So today i spent my day off (i actually wasted a holiday on this) running around getting badges and doing missions thinking "now THIS is a better idea. You explore, you do quests, eventually you get enlightened". But then i see this and realise what a shoddy shoddy system it really is.

To summarise, this will be death of SWG. I would bet all the money ive spent on this game that many many players werent about during pub 9 and came back today (hence the lag) and i bet even more cancel their sub this week and next (unless of course you guys pull a dev-rabbit out your hat and impress us all). I will be one of them.

Good idea for a game wasted by the fact that, when you take the items away, and the "moves" - the only 3 things you can do in this game, is craft, fight, or wait.

Always in motion is the future is and back on January 23rd, we announced that the Jedi system would be revamped from the previous profession based system to a more quest-based way to become a Jedi. That time is now upon us.

The old path to Jedi was a very long and arduous journey which involved becoming master in numerous predetermined professions that were specific to each player.Once you completed all of your professions and your Force slot unlocked, the challenge did not end. You started as a totally new character and had to develop that new character. From beginning to end, this was a new character with a whole new development path; first you completed your professions and then you started again from scratch with the new slot, working your way back to effectiveness even as you learned your new Jedi skills.

As the number increased, people were completing more and more professions to hit the hidden requirements. Although we will not be giving specific credit for the total number of professions ground, we will be giving credit for how many of the required hidden master boxes you completed. There is a very strong correlation between the raw number of professions that players completed and the number of hidden master boxes people completed. In other words, for those players that acquired 32 master boxes, they by default acquired the necessary 8 master boxes that unlocked their slot. For players that finished 29 or 30 master boxes, they almost certainly acquired 7 of the necessary 8 master boxes that unlocked their slot. This was the case all the way down the scale.

Players who were unable to open up a force sensitive slot in the old system will be eligible for credit under the new system based on how many required professions they completed. Reckoning player effort has been a challenging task and here is what it boils down to:

Players who have completed required professions will have these quests automatically unlocked for them based on how many “holo-professions” they completed. This will give them the advantage of not having to wait several weeks for phases of the Village to shift.Players will also be given enough experience points to fill up all four boxes for any particular Force Sensitive branch that they choose to unlock.

The credit you will receive is…

6 Force Sensitive branches will be granted

5 Force Sensitive branches will be granted

4 Force Sensitive branches will be granted

3 Force Sensitive branches will be granted

2 Force Sensitive branches will be granted

1 Force Sensitive branch will be granted

Note that this merely grants the skill branch. You may still do the quest if you choose.Doing so will gain you the quest reward.

In the new system, when a player is ready to travel down the path of becoming a Jedi, they will be visited by a wise old man who knows the secrets of the village of t

The old man will visit you when you have completed the requirements of the new path to becoming a Jedi. While this new path is still a secret, it is no where near as daunting as the holo-professions method. We have made additional provisions for those that worked partially through the old system. Here is how you will be allocated a visit based on the old system:

You will be granted access to the village…

Automatically qualify

Group 1

Group 2

Group 3

Group 4

When enough people have completed their path, we will open it up the village to the next group. Groups 1 – 4 will qualify for a visit when the village traffic has died down. Of course, if you qualify for the visit under the new system, you will automatically be granted a visit from the old man.

All I wanted out of this publish was my extra character slot. I had no desire to be or play a Jedi. Now I have to surrender skills to free up points and waste all the time and effort to level up to padawan just to get my extra character. And all that is after I sit around a wait for my chance to et my visit and go to the village (which will probably be more like months instead of the weeks everyone seems to be predicting).
between this and professions that have been broken since day 1 I'm wodering if SWG is really worth my monthly fee anymore.
