Thread: ID#2: Two Changes to Bazaars and Vendors
Bazaar limitation : may be, i think the limit is a good way to push player to find customer to theire product and not only to put on bazaar and wait. So the multiplayer experience is encouraged. 6k may be not bad effectivly but the 10k limit proposed by some player, will stimulate player to break down the market of merchant on many product, i think it's not a bad idea.
Vendor limitation: i understand your trouble, but don't forget that crafter and Merchant can be 2 different proffession, many merchant sell stuff of several provider, if you down the limit, so you must add the number of vendor that earn a Merchant (or you will destroy or raise the difficulty to maintain a general store)
About bazaar price cap change: Good, I would love to see that happening. Why? Just so I could sell some of my old junk (which still sells wayyy over 3k or even 6k), and not feel ripped off. Also if I have some excellent resources in small quantitiesthat I want to sell and can not find a buyer I can just put em to bazaar and they will sell from there. Much easier than spending 4 hours yelling at different starports. And to those who say that I should use the forums here. Hah, no one buys small amounts (less than 5K) of resources from the forums. Believe me, I have tried.
About vendor change: Can't say good or bad. Never had a vendor.
I'm Master Artisan and soon tobe Master Weaponsmith. I like crafting but you know sometimes it does get to be more like a job than my real life job does, so it's nice to take off for a few hours and go hunting, visit other planets take a look outside of my workshop.
At the moment I have 1 vendor (Novice Merchant) and I don't intend to have any more. The 150 item limit on a single vendor is a very bad idea - you don't need me to tell you why, I think the case against this absurd limit has been stated quite clearly many times in the posts above.
However, think about what this limit would do to your crafter playerbase - it's always been stated that SWG will have a player-run economy, the best items available in the game will come from player crafters not NPC, so you need to have a large stable crafter community to ensure that everyone can acquire these items.
If you force this 150 limit onto us, then crafters will be forced to have multiple vendors just to be able to stock a reasonable amount of items - I have no intention of sacrificing my limited combat skills to open up more vendors, and I'm sure there are plenty others who feel the same way.
Instead I'll pack up my vendor, drop my crafting skills and go be a Commando for a while till the number of combat people outnumbers the crafters (which will then create a monopoly and raise prices sky-high) at which point this game will be well and truly up the creek without a paddle.

With respect to the 150 items limit on vendors, why not have the item limit directly tied to the Merchant skill. My suggestion would be that those with higher skills in Management would be entitled to have more items on their vendors. I think that this would encourage more development in the merchant field.Prehaps 150 per vendor could be the cap for those with only the artisan level business skills but the number would increase as a player moved into merchant.
My character is almost a master merchant and I think on 5 vendors he probably has well in excess of 750 items. Some of the items are things like resources which he offers in both small and large lots to accomodate all sorts of clients. These items take up a lot of room but provide a variety to his customers. I would certainly hate to lose this flexibility in selling items.

Bazaar change: not really important
Vendor change: craft killer...
a) top merchants can sell 150 items from vendor in less then a day. And dont forget you are boudn to have some stock which rotates slowly but is kept to offer customer a wider choice.
b) right now a lot of experienced crafters are stepping down from craft because its too much of a burden to restock. If you implement vendor cap it will only make more crafters go away as they will not be able to stock for longer periods of time
c) some classes are especially prone to this limit : powerups vendors, tailors, armorsmiths (armor set is 9 pieces so 150 items is only 16-17 sets)
If you really need limit then perhaps 150 items at business 3, 200 at novice merchant, up to 400 at master merchant ?
Well basing limits off the level of the merchant is reasonable. 150 items is unreasonable. When I stock my vendors I have in excess of 500 items on one vendor and thats gone pretty fast. I refuse to spend the majority of my game time stocking my vendor multiple times per day.
I understand why they are doing this and it has NOTHING to do with monopolies or more sales, it has everything to do with their database and it is just "convenient" timing this new change is about to be implemented immediately after HUGE vendor and bazaar problems.
Seems like their database is more than they can handle and are looking to use nerfs to keep it in check.

I couldn't care less about the bazaar changes because I never use it anyway.
I am 100% totally undeniably INCREDIBLY AGAINST the changes to the personal vendors.
I am a tailor and I consider my vendor to be EMPTY at 150 items and my customers do too!
Hell I have 35styles of shirts ALONE.. 26 styles of pants, 23 styles of Jackets, approx 30 styles of dresses.. make 1 of each in only ONE color and there's a giant chunk of my stocking ability GONE.
That doesn't even include, wookiee items, jewelry, footwear, bodysuits, headwear, backpacks, handwear etc.
I'm sure if I counted everything I CAN make it's WELL over 150 items.. I usually keep at least 3-4 (and with more popular items MORE) of EACH item on my vendor at a time. You're telling me I won't even be able to keep ONE of each on there?!
I'm sorry but if this change goes into effect it WILL be the end of my crafting days for sure. It's bad enough we have NO privacy now. That we get tells 24/7 from people looking for items when we HAVE 300, 400, 500.. etc items on our vendors, imagine what we'll have to put up with when we are only allowed 150!!!!
RUBBISH I tell you, RUBBISH!!!
And just how much storage space does a galaxy take up? And how many transactions per second does the database take at peak periods?
You guys looking to hire a Unix Sysadmin? I'm for hire.
Publicsale limit to 6k seems reasonable.
Private vendors limit to 150 items might be approached with the following 2 suggestions:
1. Make item limits a function of skill boxes - where limits are upped as you master Merchant
2. Allow easier shopping of visitors by allowing them to create a "shopping cart" for their session with the vendor. I would think this would allow them to browse without the concern of finding "it" on whatever page they saw "it" and didn't buy "it" at the time and would help negate the "many items hurting sales" concern.
thank you for reading
Auctions should be for really valuable items. I would like to see items like Holocrons or really valuable weapons on an auction. Like at Ebay where people sell a Ferrari for 1€ and after 2 days the price has risen to 50.000...
Auction and price cap don't go together well...

Vendor size cap is also a good thing but 150 sounds weird. 200 would be full 2 pages and those extra 50 items are something that even I need. I still think the cap should grow when taking certain merchant skills.
Ok. I'm sure all has been said in these pages to be considered. (And you're keeping this going for another week??
hehe.
Anyway, I see a lot of sides here. Just adding for the voting aspect of it all. And saying why - cuz you asked.
I am For bazaar increase: The bazaar should increase to at least the goin' cost of a small home. At this point it is tedious to use the bazaar for resources as the 1:6 ratio only gives 500 a shot. It would be nice to be able to sell/buy personal harvestors/small homeson the bazaar. Not everybody wants to have a vendor going.
I am against Incap on Vendors: If there is one it should be far more than 150. The vendors I visit are so rarely stocked and never with the selection I really like to see. Granted these are holocron days. I amhappily surprised to find vendors that have more to offer. Master Artisans,Tailors, chefs, weaponsmiths, especially need to keep large inventories of items for sale on the vendors where architects, DE, and armorsmiths(although can easily use the space) are sometimes better suited to custom orders. Yes monopolies occur - but don't they also in RL? Wouldn't they especially in a Civil War situation?
I'd like to see a DEV post that compares economies (fiscal/trading value/stability/rating) between the servers just for fun.
