Thread: In-Concept Open Discussion (Week Ending 4-19-04)
Jedi Revamp:
I think the quest-based concept is a good one. Of course, allowing both systems (holo-grinding and quests) to exist side by side is only fair to those who have invested a lot of effort towards holo-grinding.
I think The quests should require the following before a player can undertake:
1.) 235+ skill points spent.
2.) Mastery of at at least 2 professions
3.) Possession of a holocron
In exchange for the holocron, the Quest NPC sends the player on a quest. This quest will should be chosen by the player, and should be clearly a Combat, Craft, Perform, Retrieve, etc. type quest. Players should be required to undergo a variety of quests, say a total of four, no more than 2 can be identical. Thus Combat, Perfom, Craft, Combat would be acceptable but Combat, Combat, Craft, Craft would not. This allows for the spirit of the current system to be retained (giving a driving force for players to learn professions other than combat...) while allowing for a choice. A friend of mine got his first Holocron at christmas and it said "Master Dancer"...he has no interest in non-combat professions and is now waiting for the quest system. It would be a shame to turn such players away from the game by forcing what they consider "NOT-FUN" professions...
These quests may require a player to "clear" and instanced dungeon (something the Devs have stated they are moving towards), retreive a rare loot drop, create an object of exceptional quality (such as the RIS armor quest), Perform a "concert" with at least 20 Master Dancers/Muscian-types and to an audiance (grouped)of at least 20 (all watching/listening), etc.
Thus, the holocron remains as a viable holocron as it is currently and allows for the quest-based system to remove holocrons from the game as well (a balance issue), gives players greater choice (always a good thing), and makes the prospect of becoming a Jedi no easy task while increasing options.
Another evening ruined and I am getting sick of this.
I was trying to prepare for our guild hunt to the Corvette and was in Kor Vella to talk to the NPC who gives the quest when I was scanned and made overt, this despite the fact that I have removed all spice from my person and have no spliced armor or weapons on me. Since I have zero interest in PvP, this meant I had to log for the evening. The guild hunt preparations will not get done. Tomorrow's guild hunt may not take place unless someone else can do the preliminaries without being made overt. The evening I had hoped to spend enjoying SWG was ruined.
Monday evening we had a guild hunt to the Tusken fort. This meant going through Mos Espa. One of our members was scanned in Mos Espa and made overt. He had to log for the evening to avoid being involved in PvP harrasment, instead of enjoying a guild hunt with the rest of his guild. Where is the fun in this? I thought PvP was supposed to be consensual in this game.
Some people enjoy PvP, but many do not. People who choose to PvP are prepared and practiced in the art. People like me are not. Making players overt who have not chosen that role, exposes them to harassment and ruins their game play.
To be neutral in this game is to be barred from participating in half of the content, so that is not a viable option. Many are philosophically opposed to joining the Imperial faction. I know I am. How many evenings have to be ruined before folks begin to wonder why they are paying to be harrassed or forced to log off from the game to avoid being involved in non-consensual PvP? Take non-consenual PvP out of the Imperial crackdown. This is not the game I was promised.

Dear SWG,
I am a Politician on Starsider and plan on one day becomming a Master Politician. Currently there are no skills associated with the master slot and no perks. I propose that Master Politicians be able to build Capitol Buildings in their cities. These capitol buildings would allow Master Politicians to include Mayors from other cities in an alliance that would result in lower city maintenance costs based on the number of cities that are aligned within a single capitol building. The capitol buildings have always looked nice and this would allow a way for various cities to band together.
Sincerely,
Aurelius Valorum
Starsider
Enough of this moaning about "Will my main become a Jedi..." and "Revamp this..."
You want a concept? I'll give you a concept...
In the Space Expansion release a "throw-away" planet. Don't tell anyone which one it is.
Allow it to populate over 3-4 months.
During those months use the story arcs to have the Empire complete a second Death Star (of varying degrees dependant on the actions of each arc).
Set in on course to the "Throw-Away" planet with a deadline date for the event to happen.
Stage numerous dog fights as the Death Star nears the planet-(the journey to the planet should take 5-7 real time days) and depending on the outcome of the dog fights- i.e. whether someone can get to the Death Stars core and stop it- Have the Death Star destroy the planet.
CRAZY, RIGHT!?
Does everyone who inhabited that planet suffer a permanent death? NO! Of course not.
But they do lose what is left on the planet if they can't move it within the 5-7 days.
If you were on the planet at the time of it's demise then you would choose another planet to be shuttled to after you were miraculously "rescued".
Now THAT is a concept.
Probably couldn't do it 'cause someone would freak or something- or the whine factor might get to be too great. But I say GO FOR IT. That would be the coolest, most talked about event EVER! And damn close to the movies.
Oh well, time to take my pill.
When I started playing SWG I thought that would be possible, since SWG is a RPG I thought many people would like the opportunity to live in the citys from the movies like Mos Eisley,Mos Espa and Theed. It could be done in many different ways, personally I like the idea to have instanced appartments in the city because this would make it possible to almost have an unlimited number of appartments, and if players left the game and hadalot ofmaintenance paid they would nottake up any "space". Also I think that adding shoppingmalls to the big citys where players can have vendors would be nice.

Housing:
There a heaps of empty houses in Cities, and im not talking about Player cities, i mean the NPC cities, the game cities, anyways, why dont you opening them up for rent?
Kinda like penthouses for the servers rich and famous?
Id like to live in a city, it would help bring back the people to the cities
