Thread: Weekly Roundtable Discussion (Week Ending 6-21-04)

What are some topics you would like to see discussed?
I'd love to see a category for posting bugs for live, similar to the one on the Test Center forum. It would have to be cleared weekly like this, I think, but it would be helpful for players to identify things that arebugs and to pass that information on so they can be looked into.
Another possibility would be focus discussion on in-live features. For example, rather than a general Publish 8 discussion thread it could be stat mitigration changes, etc. in a shorter, limited form like these roundtable discussions are.
The free-form discussion is nice in many ways because it opens up suggestions for more focused discussions, though.
And something that resurfaced for me this week is the bug where your factories don't register your maintenance payment after server reset. It's like it didn't happen. I had factories poof from this before and the CSR couldn't find a record of payment being made (and it wasn't oversight, I promise
). This time, I paid all my factories to two weeks maintenance the day before I left for Fan Fest and got a message in e-mail today that they were at 23%. Whether the money was actually taken from my inventory still, I have no clue.
And can PCs get the same ability to automatically go around harvesters and buildings like NPCs have? It's really annoying to set auto-pilot so you can type while you travel and have to keep adjusting because you're stuck on something.

Looking back on the first year of the game, we had three "monthly" storylines in a year. Are there plans to get this back up to speed so that there is some story-driven content to the game in year two and beyond?
That is a very good question. I have lately been very critical of the Developers and Community Managers...then my irl friend literally smacked me in my head and brought some sense to me...normally if ya hit me I hit back, but if ya hit me and tell me why ya did, and it makes sense...I won't...well what he said made sense, so without further tangential conversation....
They have, to my knowledge, and in no particular order:
Publish 9 - Currently they are working hard to tweak and peak this, as it is a completely new system. It has many bugs that go with something this different that it is replacing (did that make sense...*drinks more caffeine*).
Jump to Lightspeed Expansion Pack - This is a Major addition to the game, and as such several of their Developers, Programmers, Artists, etc. were pulled to work on this. As such they are not as many to work on the many other varied projects, slowing things down a bit.
Publish 10 - Currently this is also in the slice and dice phase (i.e. some preliminary code has been written, some art work done, some concepts written down), but many aspects of this publish are undoubtedly not set in stone. They need to see how pub 9 goes when it hits live, and then decide how they are going to work the path (i.e. with the quests, how hard, how easy, how long, how short, is it going to be a stupid kill this mob, kill that one, more story driven, you find that the force is strong in your family etc.) then they need to see how feasible it all is with their timeline and schedule.
The GCW Revamp - All of the above is being tied "into" this. This one is a major headache just by itself. They have to make sure it is fun, exciting, immersive...but at the same time, they have to make sure it is balanced, i.e. a chef with 10 STs tearing up 2 master CM's without even flinching, etc.
The Combat Rebalance - This piece of work completely redefines combat in this game, period. To do this, it has to be balanced...which is hard when you have people out there that don't want balance...they want the "I win" button readily available. So they are trying to make sure that every profession works well with others, and that if a person has 2 strong profession it doesn't make him invincible, but tough. There are many more aspects going into this publish...long standing bug fixes, making sure more bugs aren't created by it, adding new specials for the combat profs, balancing those specials against the other older specials....I mean this one alone could keep them all busy for months...and a few for a year or more.
New dungeons, new story lines, mini publish revamps like the id publish, etc.
They have so much on their plate...we honestly should be giving them praise for getting what they have done out on time or reasonably close to on time...That isALOT of designing, programming, and developing...we act like spoiled brats (yes i am very much guilty of this too)...we say "more more more more", and if we don't like it....we say "this is such a let down BLAH BLAH BLAH"...
This is the part where we all say thank you to the SWG team...they need some lovin' too...over 32 professions, thousands of quests, multiple worlds, servers, get it? that is a lot of work...so from me Thank you for working your proverbial butts off to keep us the paying customer from being bored.

That was well thought out, and said. I have been more and more critical of the Devs of late. Though I do feel let down by much of the game, I still think it could, and should be a lot better, they have done some very good work. Now for my caveat, the need to make sure what is coming down the pike goes well, and to actually listen to those of us who play the game. If they don't a lot of us who have been forgetting how much we enjoyed the game back in Sept. are going to seriously look at moving on to another game.
I love Star Wars, and I think this game has tons of potential, the fact I have been playing since Sept. says a lot to those who know me, but I really think the Devs need to step up here to make the game last. They need to set aside their preconceptions on how we should socialize, how we should master professions, how we should group, and how we should fight. Oh, and also, not blame us for the playing the game they gave us rather than the game they envisioned inside their heads. That's what really chaps my hide.
So, to sum it up before I waste too much of everyone's time; the Devs have done a very good job with many things in this game, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Unfortunately, this room for improvement is in critical areas that will make or break this game. So, please be careful guys with all of these upcoming publishes, we want to continue to love this game, and are willing to pay every month for one we do, but be careful.
- Pet peeves/bugs
- Storage space -- Is it enough?
- Vehicle autostoring -- When does it happen to you?
- Profession focus threads (like the Smuggler revamp ones)
For focus, asking for "top 5" is a good one for things like pet peeves. Essay types of posts, particularly several hundred, will never be read. Giving examples is another good way to generate the type of feedback you'd like to see.
Now you add Jedi TRIALS??? OMG how many Jedi do you want in the game??? In the “REAL” Star Wars what % of the people were Jedi? Well if you say 90% like its going to be in this game then you are dead wrong!!!
DEVs you have 2 choices:
THIS GAME HASE GONE OUT OF THE DEVS CONTROLL AND WILL BE HEADED FOR CERTAIN DOOM.
