Thread: Thoughts on the Warren?
I won't even bother with it until it looks like the game is back to some sort of workable form.
I'n my humble oppinion this is without anydoubt the single best piece of contend yet in the game. I can't think of a location in any other morpg I played that comes close to this. Great job I hope we will see more of these locations appear in the future.
-It looks good
-It's exciting
-It has a story to it
-It requires some thinking to get through
-There is a sence of acomplishment doing this (and a reward
)
-It has great replay value
TPE on sunrunner made a walkthrough so major spoiler allert !!!!!!!
(I advice against reading the walkthrough further than the location.... its fun to find things out)

Back on topic now! Holocron, I think the warren is great. I spent many hours there today and it was a lot of fun. The biggest piece of criticism I have about it so far is how the interior maps are done. Do I really need to see the layout of every floor from any position inside? I think if it just displayed the current floor, or at least if the current floor were a much darker color and the other floors had the transparency turned up a few notches, it would help navigation immensely (not to mention decreasing the chance of killer headaches. *grins*) Others have mentioned that music would be good, I agree. Otherwise, the story I've gotten so far was wonderful, and I loved the effects such as busted terminals throwing sparks everywhere and the like. The place is MASSIVE (bigger than an xbox *lol*), and it was engrossing. I would love to see more badge and/or reward quests like this in the future. Definitely one of the biggest things that this game needs. More complex quests, more minigames. ^_^
I'm not sure why so many people had such a hard time finding the escapee. If you turn your back to the entrance and walk 200-300 meters, she's easy to spot. That's where she was for my group and she was static there for HOURS. My biggest pieces of advice are, DO NOT go with a large group, and bring along a doctor who can rez (unless you're a smuggler. It's possible to solo with fegin death up your sleeve.)
I cannot stress this enough. When I first got there, I was in a group of 19, and there were other groups there. The place was utter chaos. The letter you need for the badge of compassion spawns every half hour to an hour, so if you're trying to get a badge for everyone, you'll be waiting for awhile and being attacked by hurrton's every 10-15 minutes. ^_^
Once the place quieted down a little, it was a lot of fun, despite my dying and walking back there about ten times (ah, the joys of being a master architect trying to solo a building full of red cons! ^_^). It's defintely worthwhile for anyone to check out.
For those of you saying the game is broken, unplayable, etc. it was actually a really good break from all of that. I haven't personallly even gotten to the part that is supposedly bugged, and I was there for hours. I just need to survive long enough to give that woman her letter, and I've got my badge. ^_^
Woah, I just realized how long this post is, so I'm going to shut up now. Awesome work, Holocron, I look forward to seeing a lot more stuff like this in the future.
Sorry, mate, but who has time to play the Warren when half the systems in the game don't work any more?!? I'd love to try the new content, but I'm so pissed off after this patch I didn't even bother to log yesterday.
Here's the short list:
- CH xp earning broken
- max number of pet level out at once being determined by adult lvl, not current lvl.
- armor doesn't work any more, either on me or on pet
- no way to repair AT-ST dmg now(while I agree with the med fix to this, an equivalent needs to be put in the system. Same goes for droids)
- spices incap you after they wear off
So my Imp CH is thoroughly gimped by the bugs the patch introduced, my reb smuggler is too new to attempt the warren, and my patience has been exhaused. So I'm taking a few days off, re-discovering the joys of Planetside, and waiting for the next patch. Drive me to enough of these little vacations, and I'll soon realize I don't need to be wasting $15/mo any more.
I have real high hopes for this game, I really want to play it, love it and see it grow. And I admit the initial implementation of CH was too much and needed to be nerfed. But man, it just feels like we get slammed at ever turn now. It's really sucking the joy out of things. Hopefully you guys can hit a balance with your adjustments soon, 'cause I'm running out of steam.
To the Developers:
I think you guys have done a tremendous job with trying to innovate and add additional content. I realize it's not a matter of "Oh, this is cool, let's do this!"..Incorporating new content into the game involves a lot of planning, programming..and headache. I, for one, think the game is coming together nicely. There are a lot of issues---but don't be discouraged. All these people than complain that "EQ had this patch and it only took XX minutes before it was completed and no problems.." Ok, people..how LONG has EQ been out? You think the code was intact at the games conception? Uh, no....it wasn't. With FS about to be opened for the first time, Theme Park corrections and additions and so forth--I think you guys are on the right path. Personally, I haven't had a chance to make it to the Warren yet--but have seen the posts and some pictures. I'm saving it for later---I mean, Act II is in place...Lok (Nym's Base---may be bugged, but I'm sure can be fixed soon), new and cool loots--- so much to do and explore and have fun with. To be honest, your content is coming along quite nicely.I am pleased with the game and with the effort and thought you have put in to try to fit new content into the constraints of the gaming system and a reasonable timeframe.
I also feel that the changes give focus to more casual players as well. They can set more realistic goals on certain things every day, or every other day---to complete a task or objective.

1) Pets - Some of the elevators go over 25m, and you have to store and recall your pets to get them down/up to where you are.
2) The map - Totally useless. There's so many levels of the warren, that using the Ctrl+M map is just a big nightmare. It's just layer over layer over layer. Most of the walls, corridors, and even many of the rooms look so similar that it's extremely easy to get lost down there.
3) Solo or Group? - Is the warrent supposed to be done solo or in a group? You have to pick up 4 keys, the turret deactivation command, and a letter on the first couple of floors, but there's only one in each container, and they take a long time to respawn. One of these items is directly related to a badge further down in the warren. So doing the warren in a group means that someone gets shafted, and you have to share the keys to get through certain areas. Doing the warren solo is VERY difficult. I'm not an uber combat character, but I'm certainly no pushover, and I get taken down pretty easy if one of those terraud loyalists decides to go for me instead of my pet. The floors respawn so slow, that it's not in the realm of possibility for a group of 5 to sit there and get the badge-giving item 5 times. Perhaps make those items that are in static containers static as well, where you pick it up, and another one spawns, similar to how anyone can always talk to the man who gives you the entrance passkey.
4) Harvesting - Every creature I harvested down there gave me 1 unit of hide/meat/bone, and they were reported as "skinny"
5) Taming - These are some unique creatures down here, yet there are no babies? I find it hard to believe that this bio-engineer didn't try to grow any of his mutations from babies. It would be cool to be able to try and tame some of them.
Overall, I'm having fun down there, although I'm getting a bit frustrated trying to find a few things. Even more frustrated when I die close to the bottom and have to run all the way back out there, and fight my way through again. And I've got feign death, most other players don't have that benefit to keep them alive.
I'd certainly like to see more of these types of things.
I haven't checked it out, but I've been churning out huge numbers of camo kits for that particular planet. Hey, maybe there's a market for them after all.

But I am very curious about the reception of the Warren. For those who don't know, it's a major new dungeon with a different type of content than what we have done in the past. This dungeon was explicitly designed to try to tackle some of the issues mentioned with content in SWG in the past. It took us a while to do, and we learned a ton in the process, and I'd like to know what people think of it.
Does it suck? Does it rock? Is it a good model for the type of content that you've been wanting? Is it all wrong? Let us know here.
The fact that you need a key card even to get in is great, but it would be more interesting if the escapee was a little harder to find (she was about 200m out from the facility, on top of a hill, in plain view
The first thing that struck me about the Warren was its size and complexity. I love it
The mobs and NPCs there are pretty high level though. I think the Warren is a theme park that you should be doing solo. There is plenty to read and key cards to collect, which isn't really a group activity. To really soak up the atmostphere and story you have to go at your own pace instead of trying to keep up with a group.
Obviously the current spawns of mobs and NPCs are way too hard to attempt it on your own.
The finished Warren is nothing like I had expected (I imagined repetitve NPC missions like the Emporers retreat), but that is certainly for the best. It would be great to see more theme parks like this.
Keep up the good work, Devs
Sorry Holo
