here's another idea to make death sting:

put some sort of talley, like a badge, on people when you examine them.

it should say how many of the other faction they have killed, and how many times they have died to the other faction.

people love badges, and it would be pretty embarassing to see you have been killed like a million times and rarely win.

then maybe you can give a special prize to someone who has a really good record, like a special uniform or badge that goes on your clothes. Rebel killer or Imp killer or something.

that's incentive not to die in pvp.

thats one of the best ideas I have heard... !!!!!!

Heres my take on the whole DECAY topic.

Which one of the Dev's is an armorsmith? I really want to know. The only people that are getting anything from this change are the armorsmiths that are making a FORTUNE off of decay. I can tell you without a doubt that to go overt means to leave your uber armor at home. No one PvP's in their composite or padded because of the decay. Some combat professions simply don't have the money to replace a 500k suit of padded or composite every week. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE PVP'ING.....You don't make money fighting the GCW. To PvP is to lose money, and items, and more money to replace them. Level the dang field a little, and remove decay for insured items PERIOD. I pay 1k+ every time I die to make sure that I can keep my stuff. I DIE ALOT. Insurance is just that....I shouldn't have to pay for dying, aside from the cloning charge, and insurance costs. If I insure my car, and its blown up, it is replaced or repaired to "like new" condition....why not my armor....Its insured right? Whats the point of paying for insurance if it does almost nothing for you. I realize that you (SOE) feel that you need a money sink...unfortunately the only people affected by this are the people with the least money. Am I rambling? OH WELL. I"m a little mad.

I was actually excited when I heard that Decay was being removed from PvP...I thought for sure I'd be able to afford to get into the GCW finally. Now this???? WTH???? Well, if you want to duel me, or fight me in the GCW, you better believe I'm not wearing my armor...I can't afford to replace it.

I can see damage resulting from normal wear and tear....we get that anyway...even if we don't die, our equipment takes hits and gets damaged. Oh, I know...lets make armorsmiths even richer....lets make it so that your armor decays 1-5% EVERY TIME YOU DIE...even with insurance. Now we can afford for all the armorsmiths to hologrind thier second characters.

My solution. NO DECAY unless you're dumb enough to not insure.

I insure, so I shouldn't have to suffer twice. I pay my credits, I take my normal damages, Don't decay my items more for dying. My armor decays fast enough without dying, it doesn't need any help there.

Oh, you say 1% isn't that bad......tell me genius...what is 1% of 16k or so? ALOT MORE THAN IT SOUND LIKE HUH????

Take away all decay for insured Items....make uninsured be 1-2% across the board. We pay alot for our armor, and items. They take alot of damage from normal use. No need to decay them further because we choose to insure them and PvP.

Summary:

Insured Items= 0 decay

uninsured Items=1-2% decay.

Regardless of cause of death.

Thanks for taking the time to stumble through my post, I hope it makes sense.

I stil do not understand how you can design a system that make the determination that you do not have to reinsure items after PVP death but can not make the determination for those items not to decay after a PVP death. You have distiguished PVP death from PVE death somehow for insurance. Why can this not be applied to decay?

But if this is truly the case and not just an excuse you are hoping the masses will buy to cover your butts for posting there would be no decay for PVP deaths then............

MY CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGESTION IS:

5% Decay for Un insured items

0% Decay for Insured Items

Raise the insurance cost if deemed necessary.

Although I still do not understand what this was supposed to accomplish. It is a Money sink but not for the people who have all the money. The ones who have all the money are the Elite Crafters and they most likely do not die all that often and therefore do not even worry about Death Decay. The ones who are having to sink thier money into insurance is the Normal everyday Joe who doesn't have 10's (or 100's) of millions of credits in the bank. But that is another story.......

Insurance and Death/Decay is really fine with me but if the item is insured you should have NO Decay......

The biggest obstacle to that is if nothing decays then Tailors and Weaponsmiths don't get repeat business...and we need to love them too.

I believe the developers thoughts on the 1% decay helping repeat business is a bit skewed.

We (weaponsmiths) will ALWAYS have repeat business because weapons decay while being used (shooting things) it has nothing to do with the 1% decay. Please don't suggestweaponsmiths are getting lovebecause ofthe 1% decay.

As far as tailors, I share a shop with my friend who is a tailor and honestly, the 1% decay is not a factor for hersales. People like to change their wardrobe constantly and are always in our shoptryingon different items and buying newclothes simply for the sake ofa new look, not to mention a good portion of her business is from the entertainement professions that don't die all that much and hence the 1% decay doesn't effect them.

I also own a 2nd account that I use for combat, and I can say Item decay is the only reason I don't PvP. I was really looking forward to engaging in that aspect of the game with the removal of decay from a PvP death.

This is very disappointing. Please PLEASE remove the 1% insurance decay.

TH,

Please explain how Death and Insurance are different....you mentioned thatthe gamecan tell the difference between PvP and PvE insurance, but it can't for decay. You said they use different mechanics, but I think you need to elaborate. Otherwise, I can't belive that they are not compatible systems (if you can do it for insurance, why can't you do it for decay?).

I am a amoursmith and this idea of 1% decay was stupid back when you started it months ago ,was stupid during the time and is stupid now

How can a company that states they are going to improve communcations Drop the ball on this .My God you all even posted on your web site and in several post .Now you take away the number 1 thing that PVP's were looking forward to becuse it cant be done? BS plain and simply that can be coded either you all took to long a a x-mas break and never came back to work soon enough to get it coded or you have some progamers that are total lost in what they are tasked with

While I can understand you are the bearer of news you are the point person and this type of Mis communcation is totally Unexcuseable.

While you boast of listening the community in words and improving communcation your action or so far this 34 days of this eayr IN ACTION has shown that is is only in words nothing more

You all are losing the trust of this community daily, One den will say this anotehr say differnt Crack down Imp will suffer a penalty a DEV post this whilewe are lower the penalty they still will suffer somethng just not as severe .No we see they they penalty is a Salute A SALUTE ! my god how STUPID can someone get ! No where in the community did i see that peanalty listed .Who thought that one up someone that had to much to drink the night before and could not think of anything else?

This snafu is another example of A total failure of the SWG dev team to undertand and communcate with the player base ..

Thunderheart, couldn't you put in a decay system similar to that used for vehicles for clothes and armour?

Vehicles decay whilst they are being used (equipped) and not whilst they are stored. Surely clothing (and armour) could suffer decay whilst being used (equipped) and not decay when it's not being used.

I guess you could have insurance as a money sink to prevent a large % decay loss upon death but I really don't see the point.

It seems to me that every effort has been made to keep insurance and the current decay system in because it's an integral part of the game system even though everyone hates it.

Decay has got to go. It looks like SOE is trying to up the number of players in the GCW by making little tweaks here and there attempting to make it more appealing. I would rather pay insurancethan worry about decay. If you are a hardcore PvP you will quickly understand it does not take long to eat through a 500k suit of armor and weapons. So even though you did not have to pay for insurance you will still have to dish out twice that for new gear. This will not help the PvP community at all or the GCW theme.

So no more insurance to pay from a PvP death huh? Now tell me again how is better for us PvPers?

"Thats just my opinion...I could be wrong."

Note: Please make a voting section for us players to vote on what changes we feel will improve game for us.

After all we pay the $14.00 dollars a month. $14.00 per month x 500k players = 7,000,000 per month x 12 mo=

$84,000,000 per year. Is that not worth our vote?

why shouldnt your armor decay if you get killed in pvp? you died didnt you?

some of you guys need to quit crying about all the minute details! ther's a reason for decay, it's creates commerce! you guys werent cryin when someone bought weapons or armor or clothes when you were grinding proffessions now were you? so things arent fair sometimes, so things are expensive, i bet those of you crying the most have millions of credits! i dont enjoy decay either, but like life, even the most valuable things we own decay, deal with it...and move on!

p.s. tip your medics and healers ya stingy bastards!
