Thread: Weekly Roundtable Discussion (Week Ending 4-26-04)

With the exception of Status (power and maintenance), this is what your datapad holds. I would have to agree that Status should also be held in the datapad, but not in the character sheet. If you delete your waypoints, file a CSR ticket.
I think you're missing my point, the character sheet tells us the number of lots remaining, so why not expand the information provided in that space? Yes, the datapad holds this information, along with all the vendors, favorite hunting grounds, current NPC quests and a slew of other things that get jumbled together in the pad. I have no issues with the current data-pad and without seeing a concept art type screen shot of a new way to display it, I'd say i'm 100% satisified with our datapads. It's the lots remaining thing in the character sheet that needs a revamp.
And it's not even that big of a revamp. I am not suggesting the dev team could program it in 5 minutes, there are a lot of issues at stake when taking data and displaying it in another game system. I am just suggesting that it would be nice and I cannot imagine anybody objecting to this change. When I was artisan I used to keep an excel spreadsheet of waypoints for resource shifts, harvestor locations and a slew of information. I am no longer artisan and do not dedicate that kind of time to logging where my harvestors are dropped.
Yes, this is my fault and I should take full responsibility and not suggest that the dev team make a change to the UI interface to compensate for me being lazy.
You cannot edit in a thread that a Dev starts. I think I'm gonna put that in the Tuesday Tips today...
Thunderheart, please answer this GUI question:
If you select just about any color scheme other than Alpha_blue, go to almost any planetary map view (ctrl+v), can you read the words on the map? I can't. It's bad enough that if you select the "vendor" tab that vendor names pile on top of one another, but I end up, on corellia, with a yellow map with light gold words all over it that do not have nearly the contrast needed to be readable, even zoomed all the way in.
Is there any way that the font colors used on all maps can be centralized so that regardless of what colors you use for everything else, we all have the same font colors on the planet maps? And that the font color scheme used be very high contrast to the map colors?
Greeting TH,
I'm recently back from a one month break from the game and it was a much needed vacation. It hasbeen great getting back into the game and hanging out with all my friends again and trying out some of the new content, like the corvette. I feel I should bring something to your attention howeverfor the sake of the game.
I like the idea of smuggler npcs' being able to take you anywhere you want to go in the galaxy for a premium and I hope there will not be a wait time included with these trips. Not having the priveledge of implementing a cut scene from one planet to the next like they do in the movies I find myself getting overly board sitting at a starport. I missed a shuttle last night and instead of waiting 10 mins for the shuttle to come back I closed down the game and went to play something else. Is this thedesign intent, basically pushing away those of us that greatly value our time. We just want to spend whattime we dohave enjoying the existing content and not sitting around? Surely there are some of you there that simpathize with this issue, because being a working professionals your time becomes more and morevaluable as the days pass.
(Side note: I feel 5 min shuttles are too longbut if you were to increase the time the shuttle is available on the ground I'd be happy with the compromise)
Thanks,
TH, could you provide some information on the mob reaction delay change that apparently was introduced throughone of the latesthotfixes?
The previous reactiondelay timeused to be about 2 seconds. If your /maskscent failed and a creature detected you, two seconds usually (though not always)gave you just enough time to get away if you were just passing through on a vehicle and not looking for a fight. This is very important to those of us who aren't masters of two combat professions and don't wear 80% composite; it directly affects our survival prospects.
But last night as I drove around to my harvesters, my +70 maskscent failed several times (more than usual), and every time it did, the instant itfailed I was attacked. The 2-second reactiondelay between detection and attack appears to have been reduced to approximately 0.0 seconds.
Could you please clarifywhat exactly was changed... and why?
Please note that I wouldn't have to ask this here if this change had been properly documented in either the "Recent Updates" page of the main SWG web site, or -- better -- on the patch notes you see when you're logging into the game.I can't understand whya change that so directly affects the survivability of player characters would be stealthed....
Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

Thanks,
i have to agree with what you are saying, I love the game, but the only thing that really bugs me is the amount of waiting I do for shuttles. I play about an hour a day, if I am in a position where I need to travel across several planets, like how the other dayI left off on dathomir and needed to go to a player city near the volcanoon Lok, I didn't hit one shuttle right and ended up taking 30 minutes to get there, and luckily Theed was a hub for me. It's just a real bummer of a time sink. I then wanted to get back to Dathomir and that took another20 minutes. So I spent almost the entire hour i have to mess with the game traveling. This whole trip should have taken10 minutes max but would make more sense to have taken more like 5 minutes.
When will we all receive direct answers from SOE on the Top 5 issues and Top 10 questions that we were asked to submit?
Do you realize how big of a perception blow this is to our confidence in SOE? If you ask us to provide you questions then never answer them then you are not meeting the expectation that you have set for yourselves.
Why should we continue to participate in a process where we submit issues and questions knowing that we didn't receive answers the last time?
I understand that that many of the issues are addressed at least somewhat by the DEVs but we do want and expect explicit answers to our questions even so.
Without explicit communication from SOE we're left to make our own assumptions and are apt to conclude SOE's efforts to have direct communication with your customers are not sincere.
TH,
After the SEA friday feature fiasco, you assured us work would be put into correcting the plagued SEA system. We had a constructive discussion at your request yet nothing has been done since. Can we have an ETA on when Skill Enhancers will be working properly?

Be careful what you ask for. The next SEA Friday Feature may just be a copy and paste of that discussion thread.
Still wondering where the BE 'Advanced' Guide is and not the out of date leftovers from the BE Forum FAQ we were presented.
So lemmie get this straight ...
Joe Skywalker has opened 1 holo, decided he didnt want to be a master ID and instead mastered 10 other professions.
Jane Solo opened 3 holos and got silent after 6 professions and is working on 7th.
Spotbacca thought holo grinding was lame and never opened one but mastered 12 professions on his own.
------------------------
In the above, Spot would receive more credit than Joe and Jane would receive the least even tho she followed the old system? Please clarify
Aiya
1) /agree starwarsgalaxies.com front page is borked. I can't get to the publish 8 notes
2) Why didn't starports get the reduction of wait time? Are the available routes at least going to change?!?!
I can only play for a limited amount of time each day, usually only 2-3 hours after the kids go to bed. I hate logging on at 10pm on Theed, go to Lok to check my harvester, back to theed, then to Coronet, then Talus to stopby my vendor there to drop off/pick up supplies, then back to coronetthen trying to head toDantooine to meet people to go the Crystal caves which is another shuttle ride ride from the Outpost to a nearby shuttleport.
What would be nice is if I could go from Theed -> Lok -> Talus -> Dantooine. Having to do Theed -> Lok -> Theed -> Coronet ->Talus -> Coronet -> Dantooine -> shuttleport SUCKS!! Seriously... it's making me doubt whether I'm going to continue the game. One of the things I liked when I first heard about the game was that you could still enjoy and play just spending a few hours a week. It can easily take 45 minutes to an hour to get stuff done before I actually start playing the darn game.
3) Craftingassembly / experimentation failures - myexperience has been that even though it SAYS risk is ZERO... it's not really. Tell me what the real risk is please and take into account my being a master doc and make the risk low :-)
4) to reiterate, PLEASE for the love of God reduce the amount of time I have to sit in front of the screen watching a ticket collector. I get plenty of immersion roleplaying with my guild and hunting. It's making me want to take a couple of weeks off and try Battlefield:Vietnam until you get it where I can spend 2.5 out of 3 hours "playing" the game instead of 1.5 hours "playing" and 1.5 hours "waiting on shuttle". This is especially bad when I've got all my harvesters out and have to check them.
