Thread: Vendor and Stockroom Issues
Uh...not sure about all you people out there...but I wouldn't worry too much about people following Thunderhearts advice on how to work around this. Those people are probably too busy running full scans to try and solve the freezing/lockup problems to have time to get in to follow this latest advice!!!!

Thunderheart's describing a different vendor problem, but it occurs to me that the two problems might very well by symptoms of the same underlying bug:
1. MINOR PROBLEM: Relisting an item from Stockroom puts it on a 7-day timer, not the expected 30-day timer
2. MAJOR PROBLEM: Listing an item directly from your inventory puts it on a 14-day timer after which it vanishes without notice, not the expected 30-day timer.
I think the underlying problem's the same. In case 2, I think things are *also* getting put on that same 7-day timer, but the *display* says 30 days, and the "go to stockroom" part of expiration is somehow being bypassed, but the "7 days in stockroom = destruction" bit is still being enforced. Thus, it's still "7 days on sale + 7 days in stockroom = destruction" for *all* items on a vendor, but in case 2, the bug is compounded by faulty data display and lack of notice (probably because the notification e-mails are triggered by actual movement to the stockroom, which isn't happening.)
well i lost a ton of stuff. after this crap im retired. ill wait till beta is over
as a tailor its not as simple as doing a factory run and then just dumping stuff. i make specific decisions about what to stock and in what color so people might purchase an entire set....
with 6 vendors on 3 planets..forget this. this has put so much doubt in the back of my head i am worried all my stuff will one day poof. i withdrew everything i had. i take it i now have 7 days before this stuff all explodes?
Simply put, items put on the vendor have a 14 day life, regardless of whether they come from your inventory or from the stockroom. My loses weren't in the millions, but at least 1/2 that
On another note, why can't each item in my vendor show it's life...similar to the bazaar? Then I can quickly assess my inventory...

No, TH, it doesn't because the damage has already been done and YOUR Csrs are already refusing to compensate. The whole lot of you deserver to be fired.
Sheesh Thunderheart, you are really embarrasing yourslef here. The issue that you are writing about here, and making your top priority is a bug that was known about, reported, and has a well known workaround in place for the last several weeks. But this isNOT the one that people are freaking out about. I just came back from a weeks vacation. For the last several weeks I have been adding things to the vendor, and ALWAYS restocking by pulling the items out of the vendor, and adding them back from inventory. So I was obviously pretty darn dismayed to come back and see my vendors almost empty. Not from sales, not from 7 day timeouts (I had NO messages at all in my mailbox saying that ANYTHING had timed out), but from this bug where items are poofing out of existance.
So please, get with the times, read about the NEW bug that people are talking about, and investigate and fix THAT one, which hasNO known workaround at all. Well, I guess there is one workaround, we give up our merchant skills, delete the vendors, and cancel our accounts.
I'm really looking forward to my vehicles, but I agree with the merchants here. This problem is more important than anything else that I am aware of. The in-game economy requires vendors and merchants to function.
Without them, there is no in-game economy.
If it was my choice, I would drop all development on the vehicle patch immediately and devote as many resources as possible to this issue. Not the issue TH mentions, but the real issue that everyone is beating him over the head with on this thread.
My recommendation (as a programmer): get rid of the deletion from vendors entirely on production servers until they know what the hell they are doing. Get rid of it, it is causing a lot more grief than it is worth, go back to the drawing board with object deletion, and work on it in TC. That's what TC is there for.

Deletion clock should only be SET when an item comes off the shelf, so whether someone pulls it off manually, buys it, or it comes off after 7 days or after 30 days, it always gets eactly 7 days in the stockroom before being deleted.

It would make me happy to see some sort of in-game recognition for living through some of these agonizing issues you have wrought on us.
You'll get your wish soon. After the next patch, you can earn the badge:
"...has mastered the Merchant profession." (or whatever they make them say)
Anyone with that distinction will know the true definition of pain and suffering.
Thanks for all the good information guys. This is a big help.
Take a good hard look at whether you're getting competent work from your Oracle database consultants. Based on my experience, SWG is having *way* more problems than I'd expect from a competently designed and maintained Oracle database solution.

Aye, consider this.
To make the Big Guns, Armor of Doom, and those Insanely Powerful Probots takes a LOT of special, rare, expensive materials that only spawn once every few months.
For a crafter to build up a good inventory can take months.
What is going to happen when these vendors suddenly eat everything in them? Answer - you'll be running around in starter clothes with a CDEF again.
It is hard enough to find stocked vendors. Wiping out the inventory of the remaining vendors is going to affect a lot more people than just the crafters.
