Thread: Weekly Rountdable Discussion (Week Ending 1-18-04)
Another story from the top floor of SWG Tower.
Q - "Hey TH, are you doing anything? We just got a call from a CSR and the players are whining again because none of use are posting."
TH (looks up from his GBA) - "What? I'm sure I've posted a couple times today. I didn't really say anything, but i did post just like you asked me too"
TH - "We talk to the players too much anyway. They'll keep playing, and paying, no matter what we do."
Holo - "The wisdom of the jedi is yours TH"
Q - "Hmm Looks like youaren't showing up on teh Dev Tracker"
TH - "Imagine that. What ever could have happened."
Q - "I'll call those losers at Lithium and have them talk with their board system again."
An hour later Q gets off the phone
Q - "Looks like someone took your name off the Dev Tracker list TH."
TH - "Who would have done a thing like that? I can't imagine how that happened."
Holo - "Must have been a disturbance in the force."
Q - "Right.....Now look guys. We promised them more communication and it looks like we're doing less now."
TH - "but i was having such a good week."
Q - "We've gotta do something quick. We don't want this situation to become a UO riot. Remember those Holo?"
Holo - "Trust your -"
Q - "Stop with the quotes Holo!. What are we gonna do?"
Holo (looking embarassed) - "Standard course of action when the players are upset is to push out a half done publish. That'll make them all forget what happened earlier in the week."
TH - "You're my hero Holo!"
Q - "This will be a disaster! You have any idea how many bugs it's still got?"
Holo - "What's the current line?"
Q - "Blair says 12 bad ones."
Holo - "Put me down for $50 on the 'over'...."
(Bored at work. Data layouts and parsing programs aren't very stimulating)
Well I hope this gets reviewed, since this is a 22 page "Better Organized" forum.
This has to do with the Player City field btw. I am the mayor of Cireed on the Kauri server. Since I have taken over the city I have done alot of work to make the town better. Making a new city plan, getting ready for growth. There is one issue though, and I think this is something that probably effects most Politicians. There is one player that had his house placed in the middle of the city, I have emailed him and he told me that he would not be staying but moving to his brothers city. Thats all well and good, except he hasn't moved his house.
There should be a way for a mayor to remove a house from a city if the citizen leaves and refuses to remove his house. This can really effect a city plan and the aesthetics of a growing city. Maybe make it to where we have to send 3 emails and then if no reply in a certain amount of time we can destroy the house?
It's just a thought...
The Emperor in his great wisdom has ordered the occupation of Cireed. This small but strategically important city located on Rori (on Kauri server)has been occupied by intial forces, who are working diligently on reinforcing security and growth. But he has left it to you, the individual Imperials to expand this cities limits until it crushes the rebellion!
Through his second in command, Lord Vader, he has discovered that there is a hidden rebel base just outside the city limits, and asks that all citizens crush the treachorous scum that inhabit the base to gain faction and raise in the ranks of his great empire.
For more information, contact Arnye, Travixius, Yendor or Deewe to reserve your spot in this growing metropolis today!
When are we going to see Medic Missions? I get tired of getting cussed at for asking for payment for healing. Every other starting profession has a mission type to run using thier skills, but medics are ignored in this aspect.

Is it possible to revise or remove the apprentance point system.
To be able to master a profession add more experience points not training.
This will allow more of a money sink for you where everyone will be required to pay for training.
Secondly, given some of the above, I noticed that Development Team IS LISTENING and making choices based upon this feedback in this thread and the other.
Thanks Wepps. Thats the goal.
We are definately listening, and I am tracking all the important stuff. There is a lot going on and we are reaching an important phase of the project.
As a fan, one of the things that really rubs me the most is when you hear, "hey see all this neat stuff or check out this neat game in _________". You wait, you hang, you chat and then when real world things happen to delay a date, there is that wave of disappointment.
I'm trying to build a method of communication that works to reduce that as much as possible. At the beginning of an idea, everyone likes to talk about all of its possibilities, but as we go forward, I have to keep a keen eye on whats coming and the timing.
So, in the mean time, I've gotten very involved in the processand I've been focused on scheduling and choices and a lot of issues. My goal is to find out whats going to be happening and when so that when I post, its postedat the appropriate time. Timing is very important to the inclusion of player ideas. What I did yesterday and today is take 251 player issues, analyze them, sort them and make some hard choices. The goal was to come up with a good selection of important items that are going to be done right away, In Concept items and In Development items.
I know people want more to talk about, but really, there are two categories of items to talk about. Stuff to talk about thats going on currently and a lot of stuff that is just coffee table chat. My goal is to make sure that when something is going on internally, that there are items where I can get genuine feedback involved.

stop with this communication crap...how hard is it...
you have 2 forums to work with IN DEVELOPMENT, IN CONCEPT.
You have stuff you know to be true such as Vehicle colors and the change to camps and who knows what else..
Why arent those posted in IN Development. anything planned for the next 2 updates should go there.
Then you have IN CONCEPT...any thing you guys are thinking about or need info on or just want to explore can go there.
You make it much harder than it is. It just seems the more you TRY and communicate the less you do. The more methods you come up with the more cut off we are
It isnt like we have a ton of new issues. Most of our issues and concerns have been around for months. Our only new issues arise when you guys come up with nonsense like vendor caps or add new bugs.
If you cant handle it maybe the assistant needs and assitant
Thnx for finally posting TH I really appreciate it. I know its important for you to keep up with what's coming and timing and all, but what's as important as developing is truely communicating with the customers that respond to your product.
You have alot of angry customers now because of the lack of communication between players and developers in here. They're mad because they feel left in the dark. It's very important to communicate, post even just once a day, so that you have a firm idea and understanding of what players would like to see in this game, to further enhance it in ways that keep players entertained.
It's not developers or SOE that decide what players want in your products, it's us, the players. So talk to them, they'll do their part as long as you do yours.

TH your posts aren't showing up in the Dev Tracker again.
Yeah. Last I heard, the Lithium guys were working to get it fixed...
And still, the number one issue in these forums is the lack of ability of players to communicate with each other via the forums.
Balkanization only increases animosity.

If someone can point me to 3 cases of real actual communication from a Dev in this 26 page thread, I'll give you all my credits and holocrons.
This is a joke.
