Thread: Should Force Sensitivity be a known path or a mysterious one? (II)

It should not be a mystery. Making it a secret only frustrates many players and only permits children who have unlimited time to solve it become force sensitive.
Furthermore under that method, once these children unlock they then come onto the forums and taunt and tease those who haven't unlocked.
Becoming force sensitive should be no more secret than becoming a master image designer -- it's just another profession. If it's not why did you create 32 profs?
Once players can easily become force sensitive they will be able to choose any prof they wish and play and enjoy the game.

The problem with making it know is that everyone in the game will go for it, the game will be at a total standstill until everyone is a Jedi.
If you make it unknown, make it reachable, but not for powergamers.
Or if you choose to make it known, bring back the perma-death system. There will be far too many jedis in the game, and perma-death is the only way to stem the flow of it.
Have it set up so that each week, a jedi has 3 "lives", if they die, they lose a life. If the Jedi survives the week, he gets his three lives back. This counter could increase as the jedi gains ranks
If the jedi's life counter is depleteddurring the week, the jedi avatar is deleted. (Or the jedi abities are deleted for the primary avatar with no chance to retrieve them. So if your main avatar is a jedi, and the life counter is depleted, you lose all your jediand force abilites, become a standard character, and may no longer walk the path of the force)
This will not only remove the incompentant jedis, (IE bought accounts) but put more responsablity on the other jedis. But something needs to be done to cut down on the number of jedis in the game. It's becomming out of control to the point where the game isn't much fun.
People will complain that if their jedi avatar is deleted (or lost if primary slot) that they will leave the game, I say to them good riddinance. You people want the easy way to absolute power without the risk of losing it all. If you don't want a little bloody nose, then crawl under your beds and suck on your thumbs, because the world can be a dangerous place for people with power.

mystery-why?
very easy, if it was known anyone could just decide one day "hey i wanna be jedi!let me clear up for a moth of pure powergrinding so i can do so".Then we'd be up to our noses with jedi, where's the continuim and roleplaying in that?If it was a mysteriouse one, people would actually be more careful with thir jedi, and only truly devoted people would obtain jedi.If it were not to be a mystery you would need to do something like reinstate perma-death so people are more careful and just dont go around everywhere showing off.At the rate this is going I see only 2 prof. everywhere, Jedi and Bounty Hunters. ALL I SEE. Whatever happend to living your saga, and not the saga you were told to live?

Force Sensitivity should be a mystery available to EVERYONE.
You should have to gain force sensitivity through some mysteriousrandommeans.
BUT you should have a "hot" or "cold" meter so you can constantly know where you stand.
It should require as much accomplishment as say filling a novice box VS mastering the following elite profession.
There should be a huge network of interwoven paths with an infinite number of choices, some leading you right back to the beginning.
But at least you would have the hot/cold meter.
If you get real close to an NPC you need, you get a message "You feel a strange presence" and your meter would spike. Then you would need to figure out what in 60m is the trigger.
The Force Sensitive box could take a day to fill or 6 months..depending on luck or smarts.
BUt you need the progress indicator in the form of force xp or something to show people how close they are to being fs.
And yes my way will lead to 10,000 JEdi, BUT!
The Devs are gonna bring back permadeth and saber TEF's in public places(right devs!)

I have not been playing SWG for long and this is how I see the whole force sensitivity issue.
If you can see your path to force sensitivity early on, then every noob will want to become a jedi ASAP, this will result in the servers soon becomming clogged up and everyone being a jedi.
I think that people's paths to force sensitivity should not be hidden though, how about when a character reaches a certain age (say 6 months), if they haven't unlocked by this time them receiving some holocron which tells them what professions they need to master and what quests they need to complete in order to unlock. During this time, people will get a good idea of what professions they like and I think it will improve the community feel in the game, rather than having people grinding professions.
I am currently working my way towards master smuggler, I am finding this really good fun and enjoy slicing items for anyone who asks, I would not have even considered this profession if I had a pre-determined path into Jedi status, I would have been hell-bent on achieving the required professions.

I say lets make it a bit mystery, but you should get hints to reach your goal. If you want to have a Jedi, than you should be able. But i also admitt, the problem of overpopulation of Jedis. Why not making it like Blizzard and Diablo2. HARDCORE. Yes everyone will be able to unlock the slot, if you spend some time and effort to it. But you have only 3 life. You cant "refuel" your life if you have lost one regardless how. Thats your choice if you want to risk, weeks/month of work, when you die or if you want to play a normal profession, without the Permadeath. That will make Jedihunter also more attractive and will bring some thrill to this game. Ppl not smart enough to handle Jedis proper will die often, will have to start more often and last but not least wont try to become Jedi again, and will stay with a normal profession. Also for PvP it will become more or less unattractive, besides some really hardcore player, which will enjoy the PvP more than nowadays. I think most ppl want to be a Jedi, to be the uber PvP master. But for this ppl the Jedi will be unattraktive, because if you loose in PvP your will sooner or later be permadeath. Thats what makes Diablo 2 still a thrilling and exciting game. you can loose something. A lot of ppl seeking for a Jediadventure will play a Jedi. Not for be the power man of the year but to feel a bit like Luke Skywalker. To be a little something everyone has dreamed for so many years, since Star Wars where produced. More ppl would stay in the underground, because of the fear of getting killed. I mean hey, thats dangerous times for Jedis, and in the films, they werent running around and taunting everybody, because they can. I say bring back Permadeath for Jedis. I mean not 100 lifes or you can refuel your lifes or something like this. Max 3 lifes and than GAME OVER. If you make the way impossible for the majority of players most of them will switch to other games. I mean its money we are talking about. Diablo2 is a very limited game, but because of the Itemaddiction and the hardcore characters its still attractive to a lot of players. Sure its frustrating to loos a character when you have worked weeks or month on him, but hey that makes the next character more worth than the old one. I have lost lots of Chars in Diablo2 and most where highlevel, but i started a new one in same second, i lost the old one.
Conclusion:
- Yes make it transparent how to become a Jedi. Once you have unlocked the slot you can start a FS Char.
- Reintroduce Permadeath with 3 lifes max, which will not only reduce the Jedi popularity but also bring some thrill to this game. I think 1 life is hard, because we all know how fast you can die in this game, but 3 lives must be enough.

Known, if only because the idea of rare Jedi has been completely thrown out the window, and it's not fair to those who simply didn't have the time or desire to grind professions to have to flail around looking for some "mysterious way".

As previously posted on first page, your playstyle should determine whether or not you get Force Sensitivity.
I believe exploration should play a good part in that. I would love it to be mysterious or at least something
you are excited about and story alike path rather than talk to npc, do the thing, repeat. Also I would like to
add there should be NO waypoints for quests.
