Thread: Declaring overt

I like the idea ofanyone being able to declare overt (near recruiter or high rank pc.) However, I think that if you should be limited to how frequently you can become overt. Dying should not let you just run back in and attack again. Perhaps the limit should be something like you can 'become overt' or be 'covert & attack when grouped with overt' 3 times per hour. This way the battles don't last forever. Perhaps the # of times you can /declare should be tied to rank too.

I like the idea of high rank PCs being able to declare overt on the field.

If this change is made - the interaction between overt & covert needs to be changed too. Covert members should not be able to assist overts any longer. They should have to declare.

One problem I see with this - TEF - if you are TEF on the field and someone walks up and decides that you look like a good pvp target. They can just declare and attack. ((This can already be done by savy players--but it would also mean that I could commit suicide and attack some imp who just ninja looted my FS kill with his/her AT-ST. Oh wait...))

Lacking any real place to post feedback to the developers - I think that TEF should be changed. First, if you are TEF on the field, and there are no faction enemies within say 256km - you should be able to loose TEF in seconds. I hate being on the field, having a TEF and then wanting to go shopping... A TEF should not prevent you from entering a public building! i.e., my house is public - so I should be able to enter with a TEF.

To get rid of the private/public toggle exploit - make it so changing a house from private to public requires the house to be free of TEF'ed/overt folks. Or doing the toggle ejects everyone who is TEF. ((Why do I need to toggle my primary residence to summon my pets???))

((Has the TEF exploit been fixed??))

Would you care to test out a 400 year old sword to see if it's decayed to condition 0? All the prior testers have no comment. Perhaps a gun which was used in WW I and still fires with high accuracy upto 1km?

If that doesn't get you, then start reading current military specifications for combat equipment.

I guess this thread really hits home for me. I am now playing this like I played previous MMORPG. Find the way to make most in game moneyand hope for a better game to come out. Unfortunetely I paid $75 dollars for this game to get the "Collectors Edition". I have SW toys in bad condition from originals worth more. I get the game with hopes of fullfilling my dreams of being an imperial officer. To command a group of other players and bring order and discipline to the galaxy. Enough about my dreams. The game.

Well I've been nerfed out. I am now neutral. I destroyed my AT-ST. I dropped CH and now am a crafter. Why is this relevant you ask? Every time I went Overt it was to fight missions. The only time I fought paying customer controlled Rebels was when I left those mission terminals and like any Honorable Imperial Officer I kept my uniform on and my faction showing proudly and caught a shuttle to an IMPERIAL controled city only to get whacked by Rebels sitting inside the Starport load griefing. And then they laugh and spit and not one Imperial NPC in a city like Bestine (Tatooines Imperial Capitol) picked up so much as a rock to defend an officer. I saw lots of purple names around me. No one said anything. No one would even rez me. Now I am going to take advantage of the Vehicle update. Should make a killing there. I'll sell to both Imperials and Rebels. And those other folks like me that are neutral. I have no wish to aid either side specifically, only to take there money and buy neat toys like fish for my house that swim in the air. Best aquarium yet. No water.

Oh yeah, My idea for fixing Overt/Covert. Once you declare faction, you are Overt. Period. If you want to be a Covert operative and aid the Imperial/Rebellion cause, then you get no faction benefits. That is how real Starwars is. I can't join the Imperial Army and only fight for the Emperor when I feel like it. (just like you can't join any real army and fight when you feel like it) If I choose to be an Imperial supporter I do it by supplying weapons and armor to only those that are Imperials. Vice versa for supporting the Rebel cause. I don't go overt, pick up a weaponnow and go raid and then go tend my Harvesters Covert 1 hour later without risk of dying. Bulls**t. If you want to play PvP then you play PvP. This is not a Great Galactic war. It's a Gang war. Little gangs go overt and raid then die and go covert and go kill a Krayt or something. None, and I repeat none in this game stay Overt 24/7. (and don't post that you do cause we all know you are a lying A**) There is not a reason to fight a war in this game. There is no perk for winning. Oh yeah, I forgot. There are no battles to win, only skirmishes. Don't waste programming time with setting Overt/Covert limits, that's a loadof crap. And any NPC should attack an opposing faction Overt member on site. And there should be many more NPC defenders in Faction controlled cities. There is no risk for an Overt Rebel to walk into Bestine carrying a weapon blowing away Imperial soldiers, that is AMAZING since the Prefect himself is right there in the capitol building.

Enough Ranting. Devs show some balls and make the players show theres! If you want to be a Rebel and get Rebel Perks, You declare and you are now Overt until you resign. Same for Imperials. If you want to support either cause andstay Neutral then you have the choice. When that day comes, I will dig the Imperial officer uniform out of my closet and head straight to the nearest recruiter to reclaim my faction. Until then I will sell vehicles.

Yeah you got a point there. Once you join a faction you should always be overt. you should have to declare covert for special missions but otherwise you are overt.

Battles... yeah... when is the last time anyone took a city and made it theirs? Never.

There is no war just chaotic streetfights

I think that high ranking officers should be able to go overt where ever in their declared cities, or out in the wild, but if since i am imp i go to ah to raid, i think a group with an officer should be able to declare, all in the group outside city boundaries, i hate hearing people say you covert and leader is only overt, if i die in ah i dont want to go all the way back to declare even though everyone knows that i am rebel, its like hey arent you the guy that just attacked me, no im overt you dont know me lol that is just my thoughts.... great ideas though

I know it's a little late, but i hope my two cents gets noted. the ranked officer declare is a good idea, but i feel it needs a penaltie such as costing him faction points every time he declares, otherwise he runs the risk of being kept safely out the way so that everyone can use him to declare overt status and never getting involved. At least if it cost him something then the palyer would have to balance allowing other players to declare near him and it costing him a few FP's or just leading from the front. by the way I feel officers should have some sort of bonus like squad leaders get for all overts near them. It would add to the rank system i feel.

My thoughts are as follows:

Being overt atall times is not a realistic idea IMO. In reality someone can support a cause but unless that is spoken or shown to another person it remains unknown.

How do you show your allegiance to a faction? By gaining/losing faction points.

Why cap the 5K opposing faction loss? If I lose enough thug, Jabba,Rorigungan etc. faction then I am attackable by them at any time I come in contact with them. Why is there a 5K cap on the amount of imperial/rebel faction that can be lost? If I am doing faction missions and losing points in the opposing faction then at some point I would become a wanted member of my faction. At that point I think it becomes automatic that I am overt at all times and NPC as well as overt player members of the opposite faction can attack me and show as red on my radar when they are near.

By doing something along these lines it makes doing factional destroy missions and killing enemies have consequences. If I don't want to be overt at all times then I shouldn't do faction missions and can choose to declare at any time to help out fellow members of my faction, keeping in mind that any kills I make will add to my negative factionrating with the enemy. Eventually I will gain enough negative enemy faction that I would become a wanted member of my chosen side.

Asan added penalty I should also incur a smaller amount of faction each time Ichoose to declare.

Just some ideas!

What a ridiculous idea. Ok so you have a well-trained group that uses tactics and teamwork to take over an opposing factions base. Once that happens it should be harder for the opposing faction to retake their base back. To bad, they can not go into their base (which is filled with there enemy) and go overt again with out being attacked and killed. Duh, who says you have to be able to go overt there anyway. The penalty for dieing should be a delay in that person being able to come back and reinforce his team with out spending time to go find a recruiter to go overt at . If you make it so that they can declare anywhere within 50 feet then they could just walk in go right to the enemy that is now defending the base they have overtaken and walk right to someone ( we all know it would be the rezer) and start attacking and getting the first strike. I can see the macro's now /declare; /flamecone2;/flamecone1 allowing the covert guy to stand next to anyone or a group and get the first strike. Why penalize the person that is overt by letting them be attacked by a covert person first.

Now on to being able to go overt anywhere. Talk about a tool for griefers. Someone has the balls to actually walk around and play the game overt. Making themselves a target for any other faction's overt players. Now you want to be able to go overt anytime so you can ambush someone that had the nerve to walk around overt while you where hiding behind the covert option. Great, all you will be doing with this is making people play this game covert more instead of finding a way to make them play overt more which is the way it should be.

With so many other issues like being attacked before you can even spawn into a shuttle or star port that are a lot worse then someone camping the recruiter. I use to like this game but you keep making it worse and worse.

Developers really need to read this feedback from RicetVatol. He hit right on. If you declare a faction, you are overt, no if's, and's, or butt,s about it. I am sure you will have more nuetral's running around, but it is up to the people who truly play this game for what it's worth. Kill or be killed. This should be a war, and everything else should evolve around the war. Our focus shouldbe building armies, not cities, weapons, etc...Those other professions will always be there.

Last thoughts, if you keep the covert code in the game, create a new profession for 'SPIES', and only SPIES can go covert. Just an idea...

To remain ovrert after declairing is a joke. The whole premise of the time line of this game is that a handful fo rebels are trying to free the Galaxy. As it stands SWG is post Episode 6 by a giid few years with a few Imperials trying to keep the Empire alive. Even Empire stongholds are so full of Rebs that and Imd dearn't show his face with out getting mugged as soon as he gets off a shuttle or goes Overt again (infact once you are flagged for doing an Imp mission you are still open to getting wiped out even if you are not into PvP) by the Rebs sitting around ports and recruiters. God forbid any edge that the Imps might have just give into the Rebs and Nerf it.

As it is difficult enough to Role Play in this game as it is. Just take away the choice to go Reb or Imp and make Overt perminent when it is declared then the Rebs can have a faction war. Oh whilst you are at it change the name to Star Wars AP (After Palpatine)

Dear Holocron

Although I am new to the game I still do not understand the logic of Overt, Covert. Even while playing the system looks backwards and even other players mention this and speak about this.

Now I’m not saying this is an easy thing to work out. Its really hard to do when you have your characters in your game so Powerful and with so many abilities that can easily outstrip one or the other during combat.

Personally I believe More Flags need to be added and instituted in different ways.

For example;

If I say for example am in a town, in a covert fashion taking my Rebel missions and Imps start coming to town and attacking players either Overt or that have Temp Flags from missions.

Why cant I attack them back?

Shouldn’t some type of Flag be but on those players if they start attacking people? A flag that allows all Rebels or Imps no mater if Overt or Covert to help out and attack those players?

The opposite can be applied to Imps as well. For example I go into a town and start attacking Imps then ALL imps no matter the stations Covert or Overt can attack me! The can attack me because I now have a new Secondary Temporary Flag that would allow all Coverts to attack me.

I think this whole thing of Overt, Covert could be easily resolved just by adding a secondary Temporary Flag. The same type of flag you get on missions with some minor variations. After all I can attack (ai) Imps or Rebels on missions, Imps and Rebels that are not Covert.

If you goal is to eliminate Camping, well I can think of no better way that just adding a secondary Temporary Flag to players. A temporary flag that allows all Covert players to attack a player that has attack others and now has a Temp Flag.

Kinda like the temp flags you get on missions, but player oriented.

That idea of a second flag might actually be viable.

As it stands right now, the current TEF system is stupid. If a declared rebel trades with me so I can slice his weapon, then I can be attacked by declared imps that roll into town while just sitting there slicing weapons.
The worst part is that if I get a TEF, I can't attack until I'm attacked first. The problem with that is that there are enough PvPers with 1 hit kill attacks. So I can end up dead for slicing a weapon and never be able to fire a shot.

I think it should be okay that you get killed by Imps for slicing a declared Rebel's weapon. However, I don't think it's okay for someone who didn't observe the interaction between you and the Reb to be able to see your TEF and act on it. In fact, I don't think you should get the TEF at all unless you're observed by someone else, and then you should only have that TEF for the person who witnessed it. That person should then be able to transfer the TEF to someone else (ideally by shouting "Hey, that guy's trading with a REBEL!" and then having the TEF transferred to everyone who hears it), or not at their choice. Or they could attack you immediately, and then that action would propagate TEF's in many and varied ways, both for him and for you.

I think the TEF concept is fundamentally a good one, but it seems to need some work.

Hmm, I have to say that I, for one, actualy like this idea... although I dont see a need to be within 50m of the recruiter. It would make being covert a lot more interesting and realistic. To be honest, an alternate solution would be to allow covert faction members to attack declareds any time... with the cost of having a TEF placed on them.... the only drawback is that it makes being declared a lot more dangerous.... but heck.... the Star Wars Universe is a dangerous place. If you cant handle being overt... then dont be overt... bottom line. Make overts consider wether allowing everyone to know what side they choose is really such a good idea.
