Thread: Some Info on the European Launch
Do you need European CSR's
I think i know enough and live in the time zone to do the job
I Really mean this ![]()
Actually, the worst thing is that it's a month until release. It creates a vaccuum for a month... How do we motivate to play on the US servers if we know we have to throw it away when we move to the euro server?
I know I won't play much until the euro servers goes live, maybe I'll unsubscribe until it makes sence to play again.
Well, this will be my plan.
I'll leave my main char on eclipse, start new char on european server with the one aim of getting survey / architech / artisan skills, start this new char mining / stockpiling vast quantities of all the resources i need ready for ihis arrival when they allow transfers =) say in 6 months, should have built up some huge quantities of good resources by then =)
Why not make one Euro server which allows character transfers from the start and let all other servers start fresh? And what does it really matter? If someone in the USA buys the game today and plays a crafter, he will also have to compete against all those masters out there.
As for the VAT - I am almost graduading for Tax law at university, lemme explain it a bit (although the Tax-lawyers of SOE are probably more speciallized in this as I did not major VAT). It's the European Union's 6th VAT directive which is to blame here. Playing a computer game based on subscription will always be subject to VAT based on EU-law. No matter where the company is we subscribe to, we have to pay VAT (we = EU-residents). We are now paying an "import" VAT because we are "importing the service from the USA into the EU" just as if we were bringing a book or DVD from the USA to the EU.
If we will be paying to a service located in the EU (for example the UK division of SOE (if there is any)) then we will have to pay the VAT-percentage of the nation in which the branch is located (in my example: the UK).
To be honest I am not entirely sure what VAT-percentage we are paying to SOE (or actually: the EU, throughSOE)at this moment (and I am too lazy to look it up) but I am guessing that it is around 15%, which is actually quite low as that is the minimum VAT in the EU (other than on stuff like food). So in conclusion; don't whine about the VAT; it can only get more expensive to us.
I hope it sticks with no transfers, having them ruined the everquest english and european servers.
on one hand good news we are actually getting servers over here!
but this stopping of characters is kinda off putting.
i spent the last three months building my little imfamouse character to see that we cant get it transfered.
ok i see the point of uberese l33t characters being ported over, but what about us casual gamers and newbies that are not ubese?
apart from that, i cant see myself redoing my character and spending the next 3 months grinding out what i have do so far...
A6 month delay in the char transfer system is ridiculous because it takes 1 to 2 months to get a maxed char for average players.
*crosses fingers for a server located in Amsterdam*
I'd also have to agree that character transfers stink, period. If there's really a server you want to play on, start a fresh char - especially when it's a brand new server full of other folks in the same boat.
If you want to wait 6 months to transfer your master over, that's great - but in 6 months you'd have been able to make what 2-6 new master characters (depending how much you play).
Yes, I feel bad for the euros who have to start fresh to play on a server with a better ping, but I think ti's in their best interest to disallow transfers period or their gaming experience will suffer.
Personally I don't think SOE should allow server transfers ever. But then again, more than half of the fun of this or any mmorpg is the actual building of the character, not strutting around fully maxxed out trying to impress the newbs!
I have to agree. Being a Master Architect, I could Easily Transfer My Character over & make a Killing.
Instead, I am looking to Starting a New Character, In the Tougher Enviroment. IE no Macro Sampling, No running Harvesters without Maintainance, etc. Like it was in Day 1.
At least I will feel like Ive achived somthing, rather than just going 'with the flow' and using the various exploits that made the Grind Easier...........
Anybody know of any PA's Planned for the Euro Servers? as Im looking for one ![]()
My question is, whats going to happen to the server pop on servers thatEuropean people play on now, if or when people start to leave? Are they going to be a empty?
I Live in the US, but like to play with wonderfulEuropean players. However, If all or most the people leave the servers here, it's going to be very sad.
Why are people even talking about transferring of characters to European servers? You can't transfer characters from one US server to another, so why from a US to a European server?
When you purchased the game you were informed that this was for US servers and there was no clause that said you would be able to transfer characters.
Of course, the best way to avoid people complaining about the 'slog' of getting a character levelled would be for the game design to be interesting enough for levelling not to be considered a 'slog'.
