Mattpost -

at most, a player character can have about100 items on their person - 150 in the bank-

150 in 5 houses - 750 -

this means the average player maxes at 1000 items

a less scrupulous player might use factories for storing their goods....that extends the range significantly ... but exploiting Vendors this way allows you to store significantly more items than the rest of us.

You - the people who use their vendors as personal storage spaces are the problem

The dev team would never allow any kind of imbalance so that one group of people would "cut swaths" through crowds of people.

Communication is you tell us something is going to happen and then we say 'Hey yeah that's a great idea' or 'No how about doing it this way...'

Not dumping late friday the pub 10 patch notes for TC causing mass nerf damage frenzy for everyone that holds a vendor. We've been freaking out all weekend and your posting now does not help us esp when this trick has been tried in the past

lol. Supply and demand work perfectly in this game. Just like they do in any game anywhere. It's a law not an idea. The prices will only go up if people pay it. If people stop buying something or paying for something the price will come down as the person selling or providing the service won't make any money. Doctor buffs are a perfect example.

TH,

Can you PLEASE tell me that the sytem to become FS isn't finished? I mean, at this rate 95% of the population will be FS, and probably 75%+ Jedi. With the badge system, you can become FS in around a day and 1/2. Can you PLEASE tell us that the system isn't complete yet?

Just call this nerf the Sofa-King-We-Todd-Did-Nerf™ (vendor changes) and we'll take it easier. Post after post is nothing but players saying that they dont like it but yet it will come right on out to Live anyway.

The Community at the moment is incredibly PO'ed. They are angry that even such a low number would even be thought of. You are breaking an working profession, the only thing is that vendors stay after you place them, and probably merchants want some other bells and whistles, your time would have been better spent fixing Carbineer, Pisoleer, Commando, or several other professions that claim to be broken and need some love, *COUGH*SMUGGLER*COUGH*. If you even dare proceed with this type of move, it better be a total revamp of the Merchant profession. I wouldn't want TKA, Rifleman, Jedi, any other profession to take a nerf because the current system doesn't work because of shoddy development.

TH, It would really be nice of you to tell us why this change is necessary, and what is the biggest and largest problem at the moment. Give us more information and maybe we could contribute and offer solutions that might be more worthwhile and something the players might enjoy more. Give us all the information that you can so that the community can at least offer their proposal, at the moment we have no clue where to start and are just making wild guesses.

WTFH are you smoking?? No one has become FS yet at all with the new system. In fact no one even know's how to. Please stop reading the random post of people posting about rumors they heard and assume that it's fact. Either go test it yourself or read from people that actually did it themselves.

Great post TH, thanks for the info. There's one thing though that it didn't address...Friday afternoon garbage that comes out, stirs players up (myself included!) to the boiling point, only to wait until late Monday or Tuesday before there's some kind of respone. It's happened time and time again, and if I were to quit for ANY reason it will be this one. I am absolutley sick of the repeated practice of tossing out what the SOE staff KNOWS will upset players and the community at large and then running away for the weekend. Why does this keep happening? You guys have every right to have the weekend off and I respect that. But you have to recognize that your customer base wants to enjoy a weekend off as well, and there's just no freakin' way to enjoy it with garbage like the vendor item cap hanging over our heads. Go ahead and "compromise" all you want...ALOT of customers have been left with a nasty taste in their mouth over this. It only makes it all that much easier to finally click the cancel button. SOE screwed the huurton on this one. No matter WHAT compromise is arrived at for vendor item caps, the base negative feeling towards the game has been cranked up on a geometric scale across the player base. A feeling that cannot be negated. That's basic human nature and business management.

I talked to someone on TC, and they said that by getting badges, you can get up to 'you feel the force glow inside you' or something like that. That is aka FS. If it IS finished...

I posted this in the merchant forum.

IMO the current vendor item numbers come from a page in Ralph "Holocron" Koster's book of MMO player managment.

For those who weren't around in the beginning, houses used to have no limit on the number of items that could be stored. Then Holocron comes to the forums and says that the number of items that can be stored in houses is going to be limited to 25 items per lot. Major uproar follows for about a week or so, then he comes back and says that they'll raise it to 75 per lot minus the PA hall limit.Much rejoicing follows.

The above is a classic example of manipulation, and I personally believe that they're at it again. Some time next week the number of items per vendor will be raised by a factor of 3 onTC andthe majority ofconcerned players willbehappy that they raised thenumbers by that much.

I may be wrong on the amount the numbers will be raised, but the numbers WILL BE RAISED, and players will make posts like "Not as high as we wanted but we can live with it" etc. Watch and see.

For those of you who make it this far before you fire up the flame, I realize that changes need to be made, and I'm all for them being made. What I'm not happy with is blatant, in your face, manipulation.

If you can't see the manipulation, think about this. If they couldset the housing item limit to 75 per lot, why tell the community that it's going to be 25?

Several people before me have mentioned bait and switch. Bait us into getting pissed then give us "higher" numbers. Someone on your end, right now,KNOWS how high thefinal limits will be. I understand thethought processbehind going low then raising the limits. I just wish people on your end would do the right thing andgive us the actual numbers that are going to end up being live. Don't tell me that thelevels need to be tested first. TC is one of the lowest populated servers in terms of vendor volume. There is NO WAY, ABSOLUTLEY NO WAY,any type of vendor item limit canbe accurately tested on TC. It's impossible, can't be done. Did I mention you can't accurately test this on TC?

Just give us the numbers that are going to hit live and be done with the issue.

Just a couple of things to add to the general discussion. Most of what I wish to say has been done so by several people already.

Right now is NOT the time to put in something that is going to put the current server economies (and emotions) into an uproar. The vendor item limitsis something that needs to be pushed back until after the Combat and GCW, too. The removal of "illegal" and abandoned vendors and the removal of empty vendors from the planetary map are great....and something that the community has asked for many times in the merchant forums as well as in the "In-Development" focus thread from several months ago.

I understand that it's been "in-development" for months, but the real problem is that there are a lot of people who had heard nothing of it. I contributed to the "In-Development" board post that asked for feedback on a 150 item limit per vendor. Yes, there were LOTS of good solutions offered by the community. I won't say that they didn't take any of them into account, but I get the distinct feeling they were already working on the ones they did take. The "illegal" vendor and abandoned vendor deletion is one of those things the merchant community had been asking for long before the focus thread showed up. Same for the removal of empty vendors from the planetary map. They cited database issues as the reason for considering the vendor item caps and the community provided a plethora of alternate ideas that would be better recieved by the community at large. Yet just a few weeks ago they added a TON of new items into the game in the form of Loot Kits/Loot Parts--which is a great idea and a good addition to the game, but not something that would make up for ruining our economies by putting people out of business.

The other problem is that there has been no further communication or feedback gathering on the issue since that time. No acknowlegement of what ideas were good and what ideas wouldn't fly. No inkling of where they intended to go from there with it. And then it shows up out of the blue in the patch notes for Publish 10 much lower than originally proposedthat were--suspiciously--put out just before the dev team goes home for the weekend. And the community is left to stew over it for two days with no hope of response in those two days. A community that is already in turmoil because of the delay in the Combat and GCW delay. And an announcement that threatens to destroy what some players have worked on for almost a year (or more in some cases).

Putting it out into Test Center with these incredibly low limits is not an attempt to get discussion going again as Maximus suggested. If more discussion was wanted another focus thread here would have done the trick without provoking outrage in the community at large. We've been made to feel that our opinions in this matter make no difference and that it's a conspiracy to make us happy with anything that it gets raised to. I have always been supportive of the dev team's decisions when provided with an explaination for why something has to be. That support has been completely shaken into oblivion over the course of the weekend.

I'm begging that the devs decide to "take one for the community" and let the item limits go for now. While I don't like it, regardless, it's just not a good time to bring something like this into an already antagonized community. A lot of long-standing people were ready to walk before...
