If you give me about five minutes, I can take a screenshot of my character screen and edit it in Photoshop to say Mark of Honor.

Im sure that is possible....

But back when this guy got it..It was a big deal on the Tempest server and a big discussion amoung the badge hunters there..

He got the badge..dozens have seen it. I can send you his name on Tempest if you want..or search the Mark of Honor under Tempest and you should find it yourself using adv search.

The deal is that 2 camps spawned next to one another and by some fluke or bug..he got it. I've (personally) seen the camp a dozen times..but never got it to work.

But really at the end of the day..it doesnt matter really..he was lucky..we were unlucky..they are fixing it..we should all have it...and if the badges stay the way they are...*noone* will ever know..cause bio badges are a pain to search with all those POI location badges

As a last thought ..remember when badges really where an effort and hard to get???..I like POI badges..but make them a separate field or something..it kinda dilutes all these other hard earned ones

RonsterA, I see what you're saying. I originally thought you were indicating that he had successfully completed the Mark of Honor quest. It probably was some sort of fluke...and congratulations to him for being the lucky son-of-a-gun who got that badge.

I agree with you that it is a wonderful thing that this if finally getting fixed. By the time this Publish goes live, I will have waited almost 1 full year for it. Can we get a Badge of Patience??

I too remember when badges were actually something that meant something to people. It took around 2 weeks of scouring the desert before I got the Mark of Intellect, and another 2+ weeks for the Mark of Altruism. When I got each of those badges, and the special music began to play, I really felt a sense of accomplishment in the game. Now you can stumble over a waterfall or lie incapacitated at the entrance to some cave and get a badge.

It's early in the morning, so you're not going to get the full report here. Use the "Advanced Search" option at the bottom of the page for "Hermit Quest," and you'll probably find a hundred separate threads that detail everything about the quest. Here is a brief synopsis:

- At the launch of the game last year, there was a lone NPC included out in the middle of Tatooine (the exact location is no longer important because the NPC no longer spawns). This NPC had a random name, followed by "a Hermit" in his title -- hence the name "Hermit Quest." What was different about this Hermit was the incredible story he told about heroism and fighting the rise of darkness throughout the galaxy. He said that his time was almost over, and thata new hero needed to be found: someone who could exhibit courage, honor, altruism, and intellect. You had to prove those traits to him...in other words, complete four quests related to these traits and get the badges, then return to him for the final badge: the Hero of Tatooine badge.

- These four quests were designed to spawn in random locations on Tatooine only. The Intellect and Altrusim spawns worked correctly, and many players (including myself) obtained these badges. You usually had to search an area in the middle of the Tatooine desert for weeks until you got the random spawn, and then you had to complete the quest correctly, or it would despawn without you receiving the badge (much more challenging and rewarding than most of the current badges in the game). The Honor spawn never completely generated correctly, and could not be completed. The Courage spawn simply never generated at all.

- The overall quest has been bugged since launch, and is going to be fixed in Publish 9.

- As was pointed out earlier in this thread, this quest was a MAJOR deal last fall, as many players believed it was the key to unlocking the Force for their character. It may seem silly to you now looking back, but at the time it was a very plausible theory, especially after listening to the Hermit's story.

Again, do an Advanced Search for "Hermit Quest," and you will find every little detail, including waypoints and screenshots. These spawns no longer work, however, so don't spend a lot of time wandering the desert...at least, not until Publish 9.

Great that it's being reworked, but I'm just wondering why all the interesting dynamic stuff seems to be on tatooine. There's this quest, Radnom sandcrawler spawns with tusken attacks, the random slave who runs from the stormtroopers to give you a disk (any word on what that is?), etc. Why put everything on tatooine?

Tatooine is the best planet out of all of them. You may as well just face up to it now.

The other planets just lack so much.

Tatooine has mobs from level 5 to 300. You can't beat that. Hunting in the Dune Sea, west of Bestine is some of the funnest hunting you will ever do.

Glad this will be fixed and hope it won't be too hard or too easy.

I also hope that down the road that a dynamic badge quest of some sort will available on all planets.

I remember running across a hermit along a river on Talus hoping there would be a converse option...

There wasn't

I saw a guy on Wanderhome who had completed it. Saw all the badges when I looked at his bio.

One other thing I'd like to say: I'm very glad that this quest is getting fixed...but I'm slightly offended by the wording the Devs are using with regard to why this quest is being fixed:

"...this quest was difficult to complete. Too difficult in fact..."

This wording implies that the players do not have what it takes to complete the quest. Hogwash! Isn't it true that this quest was not completed because it was broken (Honor didn't spawn correctly and Courage didn't spawn at all)? I'm offended that the Devs are placing the blame on the ability of the player base, and not on an error in design. The reason I take this personally is because I spent nearly two months trying to complete this quest last fall, but couldn't because the quest was bugged.

********************

I agree the word choice was a stretch. But whats the alternative? Posting that there was a great quest in the game the dev team wasn't even aware of. Or worse, that this great quest was bugged from the start. Not likely. I don't think a PR man earns his wages making comments like that people. At this point I'm just happy to hear that this quest will be coming back so I can get a chance to try it out. I'm a questinig kind of guy. Mindless killing and hunting don't interest me.

I have some concerns though. TH, if you could address these please? This is the first time I've posted a big message or question, don't let me down (If I'm vague or not quite making sense I can clarify. Keep in mind I never got the chance to do the Hermit Quest but I've read a lot online.)

By making the correction/'enhancement' of the Hermit Quest a major feature of an upcoming publish, this will call a lot of attention ot it. I would anticipate that a lot of new players will want to do the quest. You phrased the announcement as 'the quest was too difficult' .. I'm concerned that the dev team might "fix" the quest by making it static and very easy to find. Please, I can't emphasize enough that this would be a mistake. These badges are one fo the last true badges or honour. Badges for the elite, the patient, the true SWG gamer. If just anyone can run up and find the hermit then that pretty much defeats the purpose. All we asked was that the hermit start spawning again. Never that he be made available more often etc. I'm afraid that by making the Hermit quest a big feature of a publish the dev team will feel the need to make it available more often to a lot more people.

I would rather have seen a little note on the dev tracker of "checked on this Hermit Quest thing. Found some or all components were no longer spawning due to recent changes in player city code and POI locations. Thanks to the players who brought this to our attention. The hermit and his quests will now spawn again but are still extremely rare. rest assured they are back in though. All of the badges will function, all of the locations will spawn and all quests are able to be completed. bug free. Remember though they spawn randomly. rarely. goodluck in the desert - much love, the dev team."

So on to actual questions:

1. Will the Hermit Quest still be a dynamic wandering spawn, as well as the badge locations. (remember this was key in its popularity)

2. Will it still be a very rare spawn? ie. will this quest remain difficult to accomplish without a lot of patience. (see all the stories of people combing the desert for the Hermit for weeks atleast)

3. Do we know who made this quest originally? Is it safe to assume they are no longer around? If they are, are they connected with the correction/completion of this, what a lot of people consider, their unfinsihed masterpiece?

Can we get a Badge of Patience??

As kinda a joke I changed my bio to read "...has received the Mark of Stupidity" as I sat inside the Mark of Altruism search area ...for days on end

..and as everyone ran by I'd get a good chuckle from them ...as 99% were looking for the same thing I was..I never got that badge of Altruism

TH: "If you've played the quest before, don't be lulled into a sense of "I've done this before" because the adventure has new elements that must be completed to gain the five badges: Mark of Altruism, Mark of Intellect, Mark of Courage, Mark of Honor and the Mark of the Hero."

This is the part that I have the biggest question on. I understand that the quest will have "new elements" added to it in Publish 9. What does this mean for those of us who have the Marks of Altruism and/or Intellect?

  1. Do we continue on in the new system and complete Honor and Courage, then successfully return to the Hermit for the Mark of the Hero?

  2. Must we return to the Hermit first and then start the entire quest from scratch in order to complete the entire process?

  3. Do we need to "reset" our Tatooine quests in order to complete the Hermit Quest?

  4. Will those of us who are partially finished with the old Hermit Quest be at a disadvantage compared to those who will be starting the quest for the first time after Publish 9? What I mean is, will those of us who are partially finished with the old Hermit Quest have a less fulfilling or less complete experience when completing the "new" Hermit Quest?

I spent something like 4+ weeks2-4 hours a day getting the Marks of Int and Alt. I would logout in their spawn areas soI could start looking as soon asI loged in. If I knew I was going to be homeand could catch aserver reset I was out there. "Running circles in the desert"was a common response to freinds when they asked whatI was up to. I loved every minute of it, too methis is a true quest. I put blood, sweat, and tears(of joy) into getting them. Altrusim was my 1st badge everandI litteraly danced around the room cheering when the music started playing. PLEASE dont make this quest easyer to do. PLEASE give us vets credit for the badges that we have already gotten. When people ask me where/how I got Alt and Int badgesit gives me a feeling of acually acomplishing something in this game. Jedi use to be the ULTIMATE goal, but holo's quickly made that into a joke to obtain.

The impression that I get from your post, Thunderheart, is that you plan to throw out the Hero of Tattooine badges that we've already earned for this "complete revamp."

I have to say, I earned my Altruism and Intellect badges the hard way months ago - and I am proud to have two such rare badges! If you "revamp" the process and make it much more easier and accessible, then the reward and pride of having the badges becomes less.

You had better not strip away the badges I earned already, either. That took HOURS upon HOURS of gameplay to get those, wandering the Tatooine desert.

This is an important quest and a great story in and of itself.....Thanks for clearing that up and I can't wait to do it in game!

Is there going to be a new badge given once this new revamped quest is completed also? If anyone knows.
