I think mystery is an impossible goal unless mystery means introducing randomness (which will drive frustration).
I would *love* to see the path to FS be mysterious as it is more interesting and immersive that way, but I think the reality is that if players know it's out there, grinding in some form will take over and that just isn't fun.
I'd greatly favor rich storylines, many quests, and perhaps even timers between certain milestones over mystery.

I like the idea that was suggested earlier, with hidden modifiers in your character that give you access to Force Sensitivity. E.g.
25 Badges- +75 Force Sensitive Skill Points
Hermit Quest- +50 FSSP
PVP rating x- +50 FSSP
X Vendor Sales- +X FSSP
Length of time played- +x points
etc...
This way it would ensure that people are playing the game. It should be something that no one can grind, but that everyone can do. You don't play specifically for a FSCS, your normal playstyle determines whether or not you get it. Then the path from FS to jedi can be long and arduous

I think that it should be mysterious, but NOT difficult. I think that most beings are born with force sensitivity, but few of them pay attention to the clues to notice it. I would like to see clues given by seemingly normal NPCs. Trainers, quest givers, bartenders... it would be very cool if they step out of their normal character and tell you a 'secret'. It would encourage people to interact a bit with their environment.

KNOWN PATH, not a mystery for becoming just Force Sensitive.
The first mystery before it was known about holocrons had people out waisting their time looking for everything that wasnt there and it was all just mastering professions and not talking to a strange npc out in the middle of nowhere etc...
Not everyone who is going to become FS is going to become a Jedi.
Maybe you should make the first step to becomeing a Jedi a mystery instead.

Thanks for the continued feedback!!
same response as last,
make something in this game REWARDING ie, make it mysterious. It was so fun trying to solve the puzzle before holocrons... frustrating but god i had a lot of respect for that first unlock. Now its just "oh wow, you put up with the game that long eh?"

As I said in the last topic, it should be mysterious. Possibly even so mysterious that players never figure it out, but it can't be so hard it won't ever be done and take months and months like the holocron thing.

the fact that you are even asking this question is enough to make my want to smash my skull for believing SOE isnt a bunch of morons.
uknown.
duh.
How are you supposed to know what the community wants without asking? I guess some people just want to complain no matter what happens.

My vote is to have it be known. Keep the jedi population down on the backside by making it difficult to just stay alive. That will best keep the jedi population low, and this is where the most excitement will come for me.

Make a personal contact for each player. Make the contact give tasks that take you along a story, a very engrossing story that will teach people what it means to be force sensitive and a jedi. To find your contact you get an email from a "stranger" who wants you to meet him. The story should also fit into the time period and little by little reveal the life you are entering. The tasks should not be camper quests because people like me can't afford to be uber-buffed. It should have some thinking tasks like the Hero of Tatooine Quests. It should have some tasks that rely on combat. Then once you become force sensitive he gives a mysterious farewell.

This is a unique opportunityto add some of the romance backin the game where so many wondered what the key was to the path of Jedi. I really would recommend that the path to becoming force sensitive be mysterious AND individual.
Nuff said.

I believe this is one of those things that should NOT diverge from continuity. IE, a force-sensitive person is born that way. In our case, that would be done during creation or shortly thereafter, to add that little element to a character. The path from force-sensitive to jedi should be the difficult and mysterious one, like you say.
My answer would have to be a KNOWN PATH.

it should be mysterious and very long and hard, even frustrating. in life someone who only puts in 10 hours of work a week will not excel like someone who works 40 hours a week. even though it is a game i dont think a person who only plays 1 hour a week and doesnt know the ins and outs of SWG should be running around with any force sensitive skills. I am a casual gamer (4-5 hours a week) and i dont think i should be a jedi.
thanks
