How about just getting rid of the stupid things in the first place and publishing an updated manual?
To you it is a stupid thing, and I'm pretty sure your opinion is quite singular. Those helper droids are one of the most wonderful and intuitive creations brought to the game.
I just get used to storing it when I first log in, the same as I turn off the mouselook thing, the same as I have to stand up. Now I have to do 3 things whenever I start playing, and its not really a bother because I'm going to be in the game for hours so the first 10 seconds of preparing is not a big deal. Besides, once I store the little bugger it doesn't come back till the next day when I log in again.

I love those little things!
Can't imagine why anyone would want to get rid of that little green trash can of adorableness.

Any reason why it was decided to make these R2 units? Wouldn't a protocol droid be a tad more appropriate?

Now that you mention it, a protocol droid (that actually has a voice module) would make more sense. It also fits in with the "that's an annoying droid" feeling that many seem to have... I wonder if they could retroactively change that.
I also wonder if they have a helper droid for jedi. "Beep... whirrl... You have decided to become a jedi. Your first task is to create a light saber. To do this, you should first find a krayt pearl. Travel to Tatooine and find a krayt dragon. If you have troble doing this, try logging in with a second character that is very rich."

Those pesky new player experience droids are one of SOE's brightest ideas. Yeah, they can be a bit annoying to experienced players, but oh god I wish I had a couple when I started! I know a few experienced players who have enjoyed entertaining those droid.

I don't think the 10 hour mark is accurate. It could be 10 hours per profession. (shrugs)
Everytim I pick up a new profession this lil guy pops out. And everytime, I want to recycle him for his resources.
Anyway, with all the professions I've gone through in the last week+ it can't be 10 hours from the start of the toons life.
