Darn, I was hoping that there were going to be mobile light sources also. I like the look of the lamps, but my poor eyes would kill for something I could carry around that would give me more light than I get out of ctrl-L.

I think I read somewhere from the devs that players will be able to turn off the structure's default lights. However, it wouldn't make sense to not allow you to turn off the structure's lights when the craftable lights go live.

What about the idea of being able to color the candles different colors? Would that be possible? I'm not an architect, so I'm unsure if this is alreadya possibility. But the idea of being able to buy the color that would match your "decor" would be neat.

I really like the two egg-shaped 'Azeron' shown as #4 in the second pic on Warcry. It's shown in purple. Is it possible for crafters to color them differently? I'd prefer blue or green to purple, personally.

Actually, I like all of these and can't wait to put some around my houses.

With these lights are is really one three things which need attention,

  • They appear toburn out while in your inventory

Naturally it's unfair to force people to buy crates of these just so they don't burn out while you're not using them. I dunno if they are actually wearing down or if its my imagination but I'll check again tomorrow to see if the ones Ieft in the bank did anything. I'll also see what nestled containers do to them as well as carrying one around to see if there is any other oddities.

  • The lighting is too bright

These lights could really do with intensity settings, I have a small tatooine house and a single one of these really make the place too bright. Would it be too much to ask for a means to alter the intensity up or down for these before they go live. They'd be so much more valuable then because on the whole the ambient light in the typical home is better than almost pure white walls. While im at it, any chance of color control for the light as well?

  • The lighting effect itself is lost when the fixtures moves out of the 180-degree forward rendering arc

This is really going to annoy some people, I know how engines generally work by not rendering objects that are outside of a 180-degree arc in the way the camera is facing. The problem however is that the engine is no longer rendering the light at all when that happens leading to the ambient light shifting as you look around which is really annoying for what is supposed to be something used for decorative purposes.

But all in all, a very nice addition. If you iron out these minor issues before they hit live then no one will have any reason to complain about them at all.

Runesabre,

Could you guys rethink the whole decay on lamps thing? After the novelty wears off no one will be buying them. This has already started to happen with the vehicle colors. The lamps do look great tho.

Right now, all the new candles and lamps are in the Furniture2 skillbox, and that really makes the schematic distribution lopsided. The live architects are likely to grumble because almost the entire interior lighting business can be cornered with a minimum of skill point investment. A better distribution would be a basic lamp in novice, a couple of the most artistic designs in master, and the rest spread equally between the four furniture skillboxes.

Why are the dumb devs constantly doing stuff that only serve to annoy people? If the stupid decay makes it to the game then I won't bother even getting any lights. I's just continue to use the glowing artifacts to light my displays.

What you are seeing, I believe, is an effect of the light from nearbycandles shining on the lamp. In my own house, I noticed the candles turned the cream colored base ofa large plant to a ruddy red with reflected light. The lamps themselves are all white and do not currently come in varying colors.

Ok, the decay bug (I'll use a candle for example, but applies to all of the decay-able ones)

1. lights decay while crafting them. If it takes you 30 seconds, 5 mins, or 1 hour from the time you get to the insert resources screen until the item appears in your inventory, that's how long will be taken off of the maximum lifespan.

2.lights decay while they are crated and not on a vendor. So far putting a crate in your inventory, in a bag, on the ground in your house or any place other than on a vendor will keep the clock ticking away. This is especially bad for factory runs. You must babysit the run and remove the crate and get it to a vendor pronto to stop the timer. Otherwise if you let the factory run on its own and come back in a couple hours/next day like most architects do, you will have lost that much time on the candle's lifespan.

3. Non-crated items do not decay in your inventory, in backpacks, or on vendors. They only decay when displayed.

I personally don't really care about the time ticking while crafting. A few seconds off the lifespan is negligible. My primary concern is with crates decaying. Lights should never decay while crated, *especially* while they are in the factory output hopper.

the only thing us architects can costumize at all are the city lights, the come in white, blue, green, and red. that's all we can do. i don't even think the new light's have that.
