Thread: IT 6-6: Imperial Crackdown: Some changes made based on In-Test Feedback
This is a big question right now which everyone wants answered. The reason being that if YOUR definition of High Ranking Imperial starts from any rank over Private then this whole things becomes laughable. All someone has to do is be:
1) Covert
2) A rank higher than Private
and they benefit the most from this whole scenario. Yes there are more Rebels than Imperials but the concensus on quite a few servers (mine included) is that the number of active Rebels is quite few. The remaining ones (whoare Rebels just for novelty sake) can just hand over their stuff to a friend of theirs who is a 'high rank' covert imperial and get off free. This is what we mean by Imperials being given *better than* smuggler skills.
As far the Rebels getting overt, thats great! makes *me* want to play a Rebel now for once cause now I have a reason to avoid Stromtroopers rather than slaping them in the face. I dont see why any Rebel would be angry over this, its great content for you.
Rebels SHOULD be afraid of running into stormtroopers. Very afraid.
BTW, for the Non-PvP players who joined a side and are ticked off about this, ask yourself, why you joined a side, if your not PvP, then it must be for RP, if its for RP then your a Star Wars fan who should like this change. But if your not an RPer, then why the heck did you join a side? Just for the heck of it?
If your covert all the time just to say youre contributing to one side or the other, then you should suffer the same consequences. Don't wanna PvP, the devs have this nifty thing called neutral where you don't pick sides.

question
so if you are a jedi initiate, and you get turned "overt" and you can't talk to a recruiter to return to "covert"
ummmm
what then?
other then die i mean
I for one am a rebel who likes these changes. Only question i have is on the tef/overt issue, but the thing is, im on the opposite side of what most of these posts seem to be saying. If it is a choice between getting a tef in middle of town/cantina or getting an overt status, i will take overt any day of the week. My god, if it is a tef, can you imagin the number of overt imps just sitting there waiting for you to get scanned, as a rebel with a tef you have no option to shoot first, you have to sit there and wait for the inevitable attacks to come, which will probably incude a dizzy, knockdown, or both which effectively will end the fight. As an overt, at least you have the chance to shoot first, also have the advantage of seeing the imperials, because they will now be red dots.
As for the smuggler aspect of this, i was never very happy with the thought of giving all my stuff to a smuggler to transport items, and i can imagine the headeaches this would cause all of the smugglers. LOL, 20 rebels at each starport(minimum) asking the one smuggler to transport his stuff, hehe, funny. Neither will i be giving my stuff to a covert imp officer. Now paying to be included in a group with a smuggler, that is a perfect solution.
I agree that this will probably drive alot of crafters away from rebel factions, and may drive out some newer combat people also. Well, when this happens, we will truly see the number of imperials compared to the number of rebels, and as most rebels know, this will show that the True rebels are really the ones outnumbered. I can't count the times ive been overt in coronet and fighting an imperial, 20 covert rebels sitting around spamming, talking, doing whatever, and never once recieved a simple heal. It makes me sick, they are not truly rebels, pls dont count them in our numbers. Well, thats about all for now permission to /flame ![]()

It is extremely unfair to let someone blindly buy something off of the bazaar and not know they are going to get pinged for it. You obviously know if the item has been sliced, please put an indicator on the item itself for us.
This is a good question. Slicing will be viewable on the sliced item in publish 7.
Although remember, just having the item on you isn't enough to get caught. They have to make thier scanning rolls...
To the original poster... slicing isn't necessarily obvious to a 2nd hand owner. If I sell you an overclocked computer, and you're just an average computer user, would you know at a glance that it was overclocked? Even with time to investigate, you might not know it unless you know about overclocking and how it is done. Slicing is the same.
Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of an indicator visable to everyone. But just for convenience, not for any realistic reason.
Alright then. As far as you smugglers go.
What do all of you want out of your profession? I wanted to be a smuggler.
According to Merriam-Webster, to smuggle is to import or export secretly contrary to the law and especially without paying duties imposed by law.
Typically smugglers would be the people you would contact to get illegal/restricted materials from one point, to another, while avoiding the hostiles/authorities. So, Point A to Point B fed-ex, with cops trying to gun you down.
This is vital as it is the exact meaning of what a smuggler is. It does notby definitionmean a corrupt officer.
As it stands with the system they are pushing on us.
Imperials of a higher rank, are not subject to being scanned for contraband. They can travel from Point A to Point B without interferance or penalty. To deliver goods, anything they wish. They are smuggling as they are gettingto these locations withcontraband materials, yet are not spending the skill points to be considered a smuggler.
This is a direct attack against what a smuggler stands for. These imperials are directly negating the very purpose of whatour smuggler does as a profession. Any Imperial who is of decent rank will never have to worry about being inspected for their entire career. A 100% chance at perhaps even a rank of Warrant Officer. We don't know the specifics yet. Any player who achieves this, will be able to move their illegal possessions, anywhere they wish, without fear. Or anyone elses possessions for that matter.
They will still have all the skill points that they originally possessed. Not having to change their profession, or adjust their play-style. They are smugglers in this game, without paying the price of skill points.
Now. Let us look to what we hope for the future of our profession.
I hoped to be able to smuggle illegal minerals, weapons, products from one place to another. People would hire me because I or any other smuggler had a great chance of getting it there intact, where they would be jailed, fined or even shot if they attempted.I would hope to be hired, and do missions. I could do this, because I spent the time, effort and skill points to be able to do this. This is the very skill that is central to the definition of my profession.
By doing this, I am a smuggler!
I want to do missions. I want a restricted and oppressive government to work under. I want imperial officers with a spice habit to come to me for their fixes.
They should NOT be able to do this without me or another smuggler.
That is what giving the immunity to scans at a higher rank in the Imperial forces is doing. They are able to smuggle, without paying the skillpoints and time I have. This is wrong, and it circumvents my profession easily. It makes my smuggling skills worthless as they can just walk through everything.
This is also not realistic. I doubt a police chief could sniff crank today in public, and not suffer consequences because he works for the police.
Yes we get a group bonus, and we should. Yet anyone who just changes to the empire will have NO NEED FOR THIS. They can carry their own.
By doing this, we have cut off our potential future of missions, by allowing half the population, if not more, to go around us and make our profession worthless. We are shooting ourselves and our potential future in the foot if we let this happen.
