Thread: Declaring overt

My opinion, make it so you can declare Overt anywhere, anytime. To become Covert you have to go back to the recruiter and wait an hour. There is no reason that I should have to be within 50m to put on my uniform or flash my military ID and fight for my ideals.
That would let you move in armies of safe people to the location of a fight, and have them all go overt at once and ambush...
That's a new trend.... starting to happen. a group of rebels fly Overtinto a city, and all get killed. Hence no one has a TEF. One rebel will fly to AH and go overt, come back and attack an imperial, then the whole group of covert's gets a TEF, and aslong as one of those group memebers are alive, anyone who dies and clones can come right back and attack anyone who took down there teammates
Hmmm - maybe put a LOT ( and I mean a LOT) more faction NPCs in the area of the recruiters?
Make Bestine crawl with soldiers, AT-STs, etc. - and the same for say, Anchorhead?
Right now PvP is such a mess I don't really care, quite honestly- PvP is a waste of time in any event for me.
MIND YOU - for those who want to, more power to ya.
It should be harder to zerg an opposing faction's 'city'...

Just thought of a little problem, altho 50m isnt that much, but this would allow say a Melee/Bounty Hunter/Commandotoo stand right next too their target go Overt, and get the first strike in. This would be very bad for the Rifleman population, but I am biased since I am a Rifleman.

An overt character standing next to the recruiter for the opposing faction should get blasted. They just aren't being smart. This would cut down on recruiter camping tremendously.
Im not sure if this has been posted before but allow the actual Squad Leader proffession to declare the members of thier group overt. I see squad leaders as underused even though I always try to bring mine along when planning raids or attacks "Hi Swanea". If they are overt allow them to make the group overt or possibly let them make a group overt at will. This will also give the group more incentive to protect thier leader. I truthfully dont see why they dont have this ability already. A group with a squad leader in charge would be very dangerous.

1. The /declareovert command is only available to people who have been killed by an enemy overt.
COMMENT: Should being killed by a TEF should also let you do /declareovert?
2. The /declareovert is only available for 5 minutes. This should give you enough time to find a safe place to declare.
COMMENT: Should this be made longer, in case people who have recently died are not stalked until they have declared?
3. After using the /declareovert command, you are overt to the enemy for 10s, but cannot attack the enemy yourself for 10s.
This should stop people declaring overt just before the attack and thus reproducing the revenge TEF issues.

One more thing.
I wish there was an easier way to tell when I go overt/covert/TEF. Keeping a window open is a huge annoyance. Can we get an icon over our own head that shows our status? Even just the faction icon turning on would be a help.

How about allowing a higher ranking faction member too make some one Overt. Kind of like training. What I mean is, Colonel can make a Private - LT. Colonel Overt. Then you could do away with the group TEF.
Just an idea.
Great ideas - both original and this addition!
People. Let's think about this. If you don't want to engage in warfare, stay nuetral.
If you do, you have to contend with the fact that your enemy may not always be obvious. He may approach disguised, and then attack.
Of course, he wouldn't be able to do so if you just stayed Covert though, right? So, if you don't want to worry about being ganked in PvP, then just stay covert. They can't touch you. Pure safety.
If you do want to walk around acting very obviously factional (like wearing stormtrooper armor, or known rebellion marine armor) , then you deserve to be treated like a factional combatant.
My goodness... this game would feel so much more like being in the middle of a galactic war if we could declare Overt at will. I don't think the 50 meters of a recruiter is going to do much at all to change the factional mission terminal camping issue. But, the fear that attacking any overt could possibly bring the ruckus on you... that might stop a lot of griefers.
And, as stated above... group TEF makes moving armies possible already.
Make it so we can declare Overt anywhere, and Covert only at recruiters. That would be stellar.

I HATE PVP! but i like this idea, and i like the extension of this idea. I joined the rebellion not long ago, and i dont like the idea of having to run to declared cities in order to switch to covert to help out some buddies that are doing big missions. If there was one person or two in our guild that had a high enough rank that allowed the rest of us to click on his overt person and switch to overt it would make guild size mission running and events ALOT easier. Yea theres griefing to be had with using this style, but were participating in risky PvP, we knew the risk when we signed up. Hell TeF is worse than this, at least this way you CHOOSE to join in, even if you have to walk back to wherever to get switched back.
Every war in history has suprise attacks.
