Havent had time to read all the posts, so excuse me if im just rehashing:

What defines theBounty Hunterrole in combat?

A BH should be quick. They should come in hard and fast, with skills to disable their mark, in preperation for either an execution, or a capture, depending on the brief for the Mission.

What basic combat elements should they possess?

Fast speed, tracking skills, camoflague, Good offensive shots. A BH should be good in the first few rounds of combat- almost devasting in fact- but then rapidly find himself overmasted as he loses the element of chance. They should also posses some exotic weaponry, above the LLC.

What offensive abilities?

KD, Dizzy, Stun + Posture changes.

What defensive abilities?

Defence should be high, but in an odd way. They should be high ina way to enable a BH to get away if a mark goes bad. They should not be able to sit there and blaze away. Remembrr, Jango Fett fought Obi to a standstill so that he and Boba could get away.... if he'd fought much longer thoughhe'd have been dead.... look what happened when he went one on one against Mace Windu without the element of surprise he got against Obi....

What unique abilities?

Hunt Players and Jedi. Poisoned darts.. some kind of stun to pin an enemy in place. A Bonus for attacking first. (To represent the element of surprise) Ability to break off combat easier. Exotic poinsons to effect specific enemy stats (like speed)

Should add what advantage or asset in group combat?

Pinning of enemys, some tracking (Not as good as ranger), exotic special weapons with odd effects. (Slow enemy down with a dart for instance)

How could/should they interact with other professions?

Should be hireable for bountys. Interact with Armoursmiths/Weaponsmith and Droid Engineers for their equipment. Mainly loners however.

What interaction / dependencies should exist with other combatants?

Need medic skills and cover when withdrawing from the midst of a fight, so they can come back and strike again.

What should be their unique role in the Galactic Civil War?

Hireable to take out Faction NPC's + High Ranking Players. Maybe the losses on each side due to BH's can contribute to the overall GCW due to loss of morale if your boss is killed by a BH

These are just some ideas.

the bounty hunter should be a profession that isable to take on anyone with some reasonablechallenge.by everyone yes including jedi masters, if you watch episode two you will know what i mean(the thing with mace was a fluke, he got run over by an animal before mace decapitated him) Bounty hunters should not be uber over everyone they should be able to take bounties on a number of different professions according to illegal acts commited against crime lords, and the game community( i dont mean exploiters i mean stuff like dropping missions) Bounty Hunters should have their own faction in which they can do certain missions to get BH faction points to buy factional items associated with bounty hunters(bounty hunter only armor, bounty hunter weapon and gadgets etc) Bounty Hunter power should be condusive to the number of skill points spent, a tkm who has spent 90 or so skill points to achieve his mastery should not stand a snowballs chance in hell against a mbh who has spent 217 skill points, on the other hand a tkm/master doc or tkm/master pistoleer should stand a good chance if not have an advanage over mbh's...no class should be better period but Bounty Hunter should have skills that match the number of skill points spent on mastery, as should all other professions, Bounty Hunter should primarily be a PvP profession once you get to master and it currently pretty much is that, however Bounty Hunters are lacking PvP skills and need to be beefed up, dont make anyone uber, just make it balanced with the ammount of work required for mastery, and Bounty Hunter is easily the toughest combat profession to master(i have mastered almost all of them)

jango went toe to toe with obi wan in ranged and melee. and neither got the upper hand. jango had traps and gadgets, WHICH ALL BH'S SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO.

I like SWG alot, though it annoys the hell out of me sometimes. But it is Star Wars so I will love it nonetheless.

Ever since the In Concept forum came into being I have become semi-obsessed with "How can we, the players, make the game better?" Lots of neat ideas, to be sure, but not alot with a lot of REAL development thinking. Sometimes, no matter how neat an idea is, it just doesn't work in the game you are trying to create/change/fix.

Anway, this brings me to my newest idea. A lot of people have been saying "Third Faction!" as the solution to all of out GCW faction problems. But, the more I think about it, the more I come to realize that we have the greatest self-balancing GCW system already in place, if not for but a few tweaks here and there. That system is us, the PC Bounty Hunters.

My idea is this - As players take part in the GCW, not only will they earn Faction Points from faction farming, but they will also receive "Hate Points," or "Hate" for short. Once a character earns enough Hate from the opposing faction, the game itself, on behalf of the opposing faction, will place a bounty on that characters head. Bounty Hunter Mission Terminals will then update to include this characters name as Bounty. Player BH's will then hunt down their Mark and dispatch them. BH's will earn the Credit award from their mission, but they will also earn Hate from the Bountyheads faction. Players killed in this way will lose 10-15% of their current Faction Points.

Finer Points

-Bounty Hunters can only hunt one PC mark at a time.

-A marked Player will have the option of refraining from the GCW to "Lay Low" and lose their accumulated Hate.

-The initial Lay Low wait is one hour of active play-time. A player cannot simply sign off to lose their Hate.

-If a Player can Lay Low for the required time, they will lose theirMark and have a "clean slate" of hate

-If a Player chooses to not Lay Low, the reward for the Bounty will go up, and the Lay Low wait will grow longer.

-Once a player is killed by a BH, they will clone with a clean slate of hate. This will thwart exploits and griefing.

-Bounties will be fought on a one on one basis. Only the Bounty Hunter and his Mark will have TEF for each other, that will last only as long as a normal PVE TEF.

-Only one BH can get the reward for the Bountyhead. If another BH gets to the mark first, you will get nothing.

-A system notification will tell a Player that he has had a Bounty placed on him, and when the Lay Low wait time has been met. He will not be notified of what BH's have accepted a Mission for him.

-A system notification will tell a BH when his Mark logs on or off.

-If a BH accumulated enough Hate from a GCW Faction, they too will have a Bounty placed on them, and be subject to all rules applied to a normal Mark.

This system will basically make BH a system of lone wolf "Server Police" that clean up when one faction gets too far ahead of another.

The Bounty Hunter is a unique character and should have special skills in the game. A Bounty Hunter should have many things in common with a Ranger, in that he should be a master of solo living and a master at hiding and tracking (people, not animals). Beyond that, he should be a master in combat - both offensive and defensive, although his combat skills should be weighted on the offensive side. A Bounty Hunter should be self-sufficient. That includes being able to heal minor injuries and battle fatigue in himself. A Ranger should also have that ability, although the Ranger is not a combat specialist. These things would make a Bounty Hunter a true solo expert. It is possible that reducedencumbrance with armor or special Bounty Hunter armor should also be provided. The current weapons seem good, as long as others are not given weapons that minimize the impact of the Bounty Hunter weapons.

As far as mixing with others and effectiveness in a group - those are not true characteristics of a Bounty Hunter, beyond the personality of the individual playing the Bounty Hunter. No special abilities should be provided for group interaction. The abilities of a Bounty Hunter will be helpful as an extra gun or as a scout for the group, but he won't have the impact of a Commando or Doctor.

A Bounty Hunter should be a match in combat with any other player or even any small group of players, unless they are force characters. With force characters, the Bounty Hunter should be able to defeat them if he successfully sneaks up on them. The Jedi or Sith, are of course masters of combat when they know the combat is about to occur. The Bounty Hunter must have a special ability to hide or sneak to have a chance against them.

The Bounty Hunter profession requires more skill points than any other profession. He should be truly self-sufficient, an expert at solo, and a master in combat.

I am sure that most of these Ideas will at some time be weighted accordingly to how they could actually apply and make sense.

I have one point to add, It may have been said before maybe not, I didn't read all posts.

My Point:

A Bounty Hunter is required to master the Scout Proffession, Most of these skills are quite useful to a Bounty Hunters Career, except one Trapping. Wouldn't it be nice IF Bounty Hunters were able to craft a Man-Trap of some sort? Something that PINS or HINDERSour prey?

The Lighting Cannon is nice as a Bounty Hunter Weapon. But what if there was something else to fear like a Man-Trap? Think about it? Blam-o! Prey snagged and waiting to be nicely shot!

Ooo Wait got another Idea lol. Though I think this one should be a skill available to Bounty Hunters, Pistoleers, and Smugglers : Two Gun Mojo! Like Jango Fett! Imagine two-handed pistol skill!

There we go Two Points made for the Price of One lol.
