interested to see how the votes really effect your rating

I like the system, but I have a realitively low star ranking, at "only" 3.3. Starsider has a problem with one-star bandits, even threads posted in memory of players or players family who have died get one-starred. Posts get one-starred somply because they're RP posts. Plus what happens if someone has a grudge against me and goes round one-starring, as has happened before?
"...Additionally we are putting measures in to be able to track and even "title" these posters so everyone will know who they are. When we findsomeone who abuses the rating systemwe do lower their "rating" weight to prevent abuse."
Note especially the last sentence. I think the one star nazis are more common thanadmin thinks, but as I posted previously, I believe there are enough responsible and mature folks on the board to make up for them. Also, if I understand this correctly, those who abuse the system will have less of an impact on your rating than everyone else.

Did Garva say this was going in today? or did he mean that some new info was coming today?

Rather than a posting average...why not base it off the number of stars you've been awarded (total)? So if someone awards you a 1-star, it still adds positive. It'd kill of the ninja-stars, and would also mean you can't loose your star rank. If, for example, 5 people thought my idea was great, I might get 25 stars out of the mix. If someone doesn't like the idea, I get no stars. If someone thought it was a nice idea, but flawed, maybe 1 or 2 stars. It would make the star system far more versatile, rather than having 5 "I like you" stars, or 1 "I hate you" star.
I get why this is happening, though. They're trying to cut down on trolling. It you say nice things, and people think "hey, that's a nice thing to say!", you get a higher star rank. But you're underestimating the ninjas. I had a perfect 5-star rating a few days ago...now its dropped to a 3, merely because a few people didn't like an idea, and 1-starred me every time I posted anything...
Nice system, but the star ranks are a little too fickle. If you achieve something, it shouldn't be taken away...especially not by a few malicious people with over-active clicky fingers.
It's an average of the rated posts. not all posts.
I have over 1000 posts...but not all of them are rated. Most...are basically ignored. lol Only the ones that are RATED count on the Star Titles.

The star ratings for those few ranks is based on what people have so far and what is possible, as you can see its used sparcely and does not grant much more than title changing, there is a similar unranked title. Also yes, the star ranked "officer" ranks kick in faster than the regular ones.
The system will change when we are done with it, no specific date yet other than soon. And remember I do not work on the programming of the game, sorry, or I would be doing that.

If i could fix it it would be done already, please stay on topic. as a note though, I have not had to log in since monday, you may want to check your personal internet security settings. Anything above normal does not allow for auto login on most computers using IE.

Sorry, I'm just bitter 'cuz my fingers hurt from typing in my password every 5 minutes ![]()
I had the same thing for a while -- it kept me logged in even after shutting down my computer, but yesterday and today, it seems worse than it ever was.
ON TOPIC: If you're going for a ranking system based no the star system, that's a fine idea, but there should be a way to discount the effects of 1-star ninjas, and 5-star bots, maybe limit the number of each star rating you can apply each day, or revoke starring privileges from anyone who abuses it by giving toomany 1-stars or too many 5-stars.

It has alloted for No post requirements, post requirements, time playing, post rating all in one.
The ranks are in ascending order, meaning the rank at the bottom over-rides the rank at the top, same goes for anything in between, rank 21 overrides rank 22, 23 overrides 22, etc.
