Not sure of the actual point totals....but figure it this way.

5 ratings. figure 1 star is 1 point. 5 Stars is 5 points.

Bob has 10rated postson him ranging like this.

3,4,2,5,1,5,5,1,2,4

Add them up and divide by 10.

Average rating is 2.7.

Joe has 11 rated posts...and for the sake of the argument....his are all the same, but has 1 more 5 star.

Average rating is 2.9

Now figure this in the hundreds of posts.

Say Mike has 100 ratedposts...and assume the total points adds up to 270

Still has a 2.7 rating.

Mark has 101 rated posts and assume the same as Joe. Just one more 5 star rating.

Average rating is 2.72

On the flip side Steve has 101 posts and they are all the same as Marks, but the last one was one starred

Rating is 2.68.

Did Garva say this was going in today? or did he mean that some new info was coming today?

I like the system, but I have a realitively low star ranking, at "only" 3.3. Starsider has a problem with one-star bandits, even threads posted in memory of players or players family who have died get one-starred. Posts get one-starred somply because they're RP posts. Plus what happens if someone has a grudge against me and goes round one-starring, as has happened before?

"...Additionally we are putting measures in to be able to track and even "title" these posters so everyone will know who they are. When we findsomeone who abuses the rating systemwe do lower their "rating" weight to prevent abuse."

Note especially the last sentence. I think the one star nazis are more common thanadmin thinks, but as I posted previously, I believe there are enough responsible and mature folks on the board to make up for them. Also, if I understand this correctly, those who abuse the system will have less of an impact on your rating than everyone else.

Rather than a posting average...why not base it off the number of stars you've been awarded (total)? So if someone awards you a 1-star, it still adds positive. It'd kill of the ninja-stars, and would also mean you can't loose your star rank. If, for example, 5 people thought my idea was great, I might get 25 stars out of the mix. If someone doesn't like the idea, I get no stars. If someone thought it was a nice idea, but flawed, maybe 1 or 2 stars. It would make the star system far more versatile, rather than having 5 "I like you" stars, or 1 "I hate you" star.

I get why this is happening, though. They're trying to cut down on trolling. It you say nice things, and people think "hey, that's a nice thing to say!", you get a higher star rank. But you're underestimating the ninjas. I had a perfect 5-star rating a few days ago...now its dropped to a 3, merely because a few people didn't like an idea, and 1-starred me every time I posted anything...

Nice system, but the star ranks are a little too fickle. If you achieve something, it shouldn't be taken away...especially not by a few malicious people with over-active clicky fingers.

It's an average of the rated posts. not all posts.

I have over 1000 posts...but not all of them are rated. Most...are basically ignored. lol Only the ones that are RATED count on the Star Titles.

Read my previous post about the ratings and averages.

How about a Ranking increase for those of us that only post when there is something to say, that hasn't already been said 15 times. But sits here faithfully and reads all the messages ?.

Ok keep in mind this next list has not been approved by TH (he's out of office until next week) but it addresses concerns some of you voiced.

It has alloted for No post requirements, post requirements, time playing, post rating all in one.

The ranks are in ascending order, meaning the rank at the bottom over-rides the rank at the top, same goes for anything in between, rank 21 overrides rank 22, 23 overrides 22, etc.

Required for rank 1 (Member same as current) 1 month minimum

Required for rank2 (Community Member same as current) 1 month minimum 50 post (Edit Granted)

Required for rank3 (Sr.Member)2 month minimum(Edit Granted)

Required for rank 19 SWG Crewman 16 month minimum (Officer insignia appears)

Required for rank20 SWG Petty Officer 18 month minimum

Required for rank21 (Pilot)12 month minimum3.0 average rating 50 post (Gold Officer insignia appears)

Required for rank22 SWGChiefPetty Officer 24 month minimum

Required for rank23 SWG Ensign 28 month minimum

Required for rank24 (Squadron Leader)16 month minimum3.1 average125 post (Gold Officer insignia appears)

Required for rank25 SWG Second Lieutenant 30 month minimum

Required for rank26 SWG Lieutenant 36 month minimum

Required for rank28 SWG Commander 40 month minimum

Required for rank29 (Jedi)24 month minimum3.5 average rating500 post (Gold Officer insignia appears)

Required for rank30 SWG Captain 48 month minimum

Required for rank31 (Master Jedi)48 month minimum4.0 average rating 1000 post
(Gold Officer insignia appears)

The star ratings for those few ranks is based on what people have so far and what is possible, as you can see its used sparcely and does not grant much more than title changing, there is a similar unranked title. Also yes, the star ranked "officer" ranks kick in faster than the regular ones.

The system will change when we are done with it, no specific date yet other than soon. And remember I do not work on the programming of the game, sorry, or I would be doing that.

This sounds intresting to me. I always wondered how whe ranking system worked. Not sure if this is asked or not since there are too many pages to go through.... If we qualify for a normal level and a lower star level, will any specials attached to that star level be available?

Oh forgot to add, anyone with a special title will keep it, those are all ranked above this whole tree.

I'd like multiple title options at the top levels. I do not want to be rewarded with a title that says Jedi...ever.

You know, I just had an idea: Why don't we have titles based on faction? I'd much rather be a Moff than a Jedi. Hell, I'd even take freakin' Surface Marshall.

I'm for getting rid of the star ranking system all togehter. In my experience, people tend to star rate posts based on whether they agree with them or not, instead of rating them on how constructive and/or appropriate they are. I've read (and wrote) what I thought were fantastic posts that got one or two stars because the ideas contained within were unpopular. I think each forum member should be able to judge for themselves the merit of a post without having some abritary star rating effect their judgement.

I think that this is a good idea, though I do think that HIgh posters, are an integral part of forum community, whilst, I cna see that trolling isnt necessarily to be necouraged, people cna participate, with 'semi frivolous' posting, and add to the community vybe. Also general forum regulars input would be useful for 'honourary awards. Like Most colourful, (im thinking of a particular poster)

You must be able to tell out of a 1k posters posts, how many are trade, and how many are specific to their home galaxy, or proffesion, thus enabling some sort of weight to be added to their opinions of the other posters.

I think that star rating should be visible below your standard rating, asits highly likely that High basic level ranks, will qualify to varying levels of the lower star ratings, by experience.

Sorry, I'm just bitter 'cuz my fingers hurt from typing in my password every 5 minutes

I had the same thing for a while -- it kept me logged in even after shutting down my computer, but yesterday and today, it seems worse than it ever was.

ON TOPIC: If you're going for a ranking system based no the star system, that's a fine idea, but there should be a way to discount the effects of 1-star ninjas, and 5-star bots, maybe limit the number of each star rating you can apply each day, or revoke starring privileges from anyone who abuses it by giving toomany 1-stars or too many 5-stars.

Not to nitpick, but shouldn't this read:
