Broom .... I am sorry but no matter what you say a lower ranking officer in ANY military is not going to "stop and search" a higher ranking officer, period.

If they witness anything specifically they report it to their superiors.

Who in turn take a cut of the original pay off. (cynical joke, but probable in most cases)

Remember the imperial army is spread out over a galaxy not some little planet like ours, or even a single country, the same ideals and ideas do not apply.

Lets take a look at one of the BIGGEST hypocrisies on the Imperials in the film: Vader is hunting down all force sensitive beings, but it's ok for him and the emperor! ??????

No kidding, I logged out in the middle of a Space Port with Moun on me, and I am in no ways a high ranking imperial.

Oh cry me a river. The devs ADD something to the game, and you cry about it because it's not exactly the way you wanted it. Forget about the fact that it makes perfect sense. Who ever heard of an Imperial Smuggler? For your information, only high-ranking imperials get off easy, and even then, it appears they will get a TEF when the troopers "salute" them.

Instead of whining about having to share the ability with another group of people, why not just be happy about the fact that you have additional content to enjoy. It's not like any smugglers actually decided to be smugglers to smuggle anything, since this is the first time in the game it was possible.

OMG, I really dont see what the problem is with the smuggler whines ... Why would a corrupt dictatorship check its ownmilitary when they are helping oppress the citizens? The empire isnt some form of liberal republic that believes in equal rights and opportunities, so why the hell do you expect it to act like one?

The laws are there to keep the populace under control, not to cripple its own armed forces. AndFYI the US allows its troops to carry weaponry and equipment that is classified as illegal within the USA, in fact they even issue their troops with performance enhancing drugs which also happen to be illegal within their own country. So the empire going one step further and turning a blind eye on what equipment its troops use to get the job done makes perfect sense.

Smuggling stuff is illegal by definition, and due to imperial sanction imperial troops dont need to worry about hiding stuff when on duty therefore smuggling isntlogicallypossible for overt imperials. Smugglers operate on the wrong side of the law therefore it makes little logical sense for there to be imperial smugglers other than those operating as informants or providing needed services that only smugglers can provide. Non-imperial master smugglers have a 95% chance of avoiding the scans when compared to non-smugglers, which essentially means that covert rebel smugglers or covert rebel groups containing smugglers will be able to enter imperial controlled areas with minimal chance of detection. A 1 in 20failure rateis more than reasonable and is actually a lot lower than the failure rate for master crafters.

So much for the "Keeping the Customer informed bit" I had planned on storing all my "contraband" items at my house until I get my rank up. O well, guess I get to loose 500 faction, or whatever the penalty is. That's great you guys got the patch ready early, but when you institute changes in the game and give a Specific time to when those changes are going to be in place. Some actually make plans around that.

Thanks for once again another broken promise. Here's to hoping I can rush to my house without getting scanned, what fun (NOT).

Actually, most smuggler decided to be smugglers BECAUSE we wanted to smuggler something. Even before most of us became smugglers, we've seen the promises that the devs and TH have been giving us for ages. We've been promised content for months on end. Hell, now even the lead designers posts on the front page that they are going to do a revamp.

Also, it remains to be seen whether we can really enjoy our new 'content'. It depends on whether or not people would want to group with us. There aren't going to be any contraband checks in cities - only out in the wild so it all depends on whether or not players plan ahead and group with us. Along the same lines, who would want to babysit a group of hunters for hours on end while they hunt?

Seriously, all the people who complain that we are whining really need to put their selves in our shoes to see why we are complaining. We haven't been able to smuggle since launch but have been promised that over and over again. This 'content' is nonsense. No one in the community really cares for it all that much as it really doesn't serve much of a purpose. We also aren't really complaining about the lack of content in this publish.

Our problem is with Imperials (especially coverts) getting a free pass. All RL analogies aside, this sets a real bad precendence for us when our revamp does come about because Imperials are now impervious from any negative effects of carrying contraband and the devs won't change that because otherwise the Imperials will cry 'griefing!'.

Rebels being forced OVERT as opposed to a TEF is a very bad idea and here is why.

1) Many ofthe crafters and entertainers that are rebel because of factional alliance preference will resign because PVP is forced upon them

2) Rebel guilds will lose membership right and left from crafters and entertainers not wanting to be forced into PVP

3) Imperial overts will now be camping at cantinas, starports and shuttle ports with their AT's out to get free FP's. With a TEF the reb has a chance to use his smarts to avoid death.

4) If the rebel that is not in the mood for PVP at the moment and doing other things they now must find a rebel recuiter and if they live take an gour of GAME time (notREAL TIME) away from them to become covert. Lessenening their gaming experience.

5) PVP is now not optional

No, but they probably would stop and search the loud drunk guy in the back corner of mos eisley cantina when he notices an empty vile of neutron pixie by his feet. The drunk man, though an imperial officer is covert and out of uniform so the storm trooper calls in in and approaches for a more thorough scan.

In this scenario (which feels very much like how I've seen the scans play out in game on test/test-bria) its not a matter of the low ranking officer not stopping a clearly high ranking officer, but its about the high ranking officers ability to pull rank after the fact and make things go away - to stop things that already in motion. The outcome here is much less predictable and while probably high, you can't say with a straight face that there's never been a scandal, court martial, force choke that has come down on high ranking officials for illegal activities. What if there's a superior officer enjoying a dancer's company on the other side of the cantina that notices the commotion and comes over to see what is going on? What if one of the 30 neutral sells his information to the nearest rebel (back to TEF for saluting)? Or has contacts inside the Imperial ranks and sells his information to his contact - would there be no death penalty then? None of these things play out as cut and dry as a blanket get out of jail free card that is currently being given - and none of them are so out there that they don't fit the context of cantina raids. And I haven't even brought in the idea "scanning devices" that the patrol officer has no control over. Can an officer pull rank on a "drug sniffing dog" or whatever these officers are using to detect slices and spices?

There is a big difference between high probability and a fixed value like always.
