Thread: Weekly Rountdable Discussion (Week Ending 1-25-04)
Can anyone explain how all the skill modifiers work? Maybe a Dev or someone?
I am an old school gamer, and understand thing's like THAC0, and I just want to know what my speed and accuracy modifier does to a gun. Also what is the damage multiplier that causes a good gun to do extreme damage? I see all these modifies but they don't really mean anything to me because I have nothing explaining the game mechanics.
An easier way to travel is to open inventory and double click the ticket. Of course it still won't use it right after you stop moving. You have to wait a few seconds after you stop running. I just click on the ticket repeatedly until it takes it. Works much better than the droid.

Vehicle auto-store.
Vehicles have to autostore. Without vehicles autostoring, the game environment gets horribly polluted with vehicles. If you were involved in the vehicle tests on TC, youwould have seenwhat happens. In an hour hundreds of vehicles accumulated around starports, cantinas and other places where players gather. The downside is any place there is a high player traffic, a crazy amount of vehicles gathered and then your frame rate chugs because there are so many vehicles on the screen.
what?? The reason hundreds of vehicles were everywhere on TC was not because people were lazy and leaving them out all in the same area.... it was because of a bug that caused vehicle duping on the screen.. u call, store, call and there are now two vehicles on screen. The vehicle auto-store is just a bandaid to cover up the buggy code.... when we say we want vehicle auto-store removed, that means we also want the original bug fixed.
People rely on the DEV Tracker to get information. TH has NOT been on the DEV Tracker for a week now. It appears that you do NOT care about getting information to us.
Also, you CAN'T just click on TH and choose show all messages and sort by newest...SORT has NEVER worked properly on these forums.
Thunderheart, now that you are communicating with us ( and I appreciate it ), would it be too much to ask of you to give a simple and short answer to my simple question on page one of this thread ? All you have to do is post a single line quoting my post and pressing 1, 2 or 3. Please.
You said ( and I paraphrase here because I don't want to scroll back ) that if you have no information on a subject, you don't touch it. This is wrong. As I said, you cannot not communicate. Not communicating is the worst thing you can do. If you don't have all information you need, or you need to double check, or you need to wait for someone or something, thats fine. Happens to all of us all the time. But if you don't tell us that you have heard us and need more time and instead just ignore us ( at least it looks that way for us ), it will backfire. It already has in the past year for SOE, badly.
I'll try an analogy, though I have met enough people on these boards who don't get those wonders of communication, but I think you're a smart guy ![]()
Imagine you had a date with someone you like. But due to reasons totally out of your control ( your car broke down ) you will be two hours late. Basically there aretwo options to handle it:
As you cannot change what happend and you cannot make it any faster than in two hours by bus no matter what you do,simply take the bus and hope for her to still be there at the time you arrive.
OR
Call her and tell her you will be late. Ask her if that's ok for her ( that's really only to be polite, you can't change it anyway, the only other option is to cancel. But then, at least it IS an option you gave her ).
I know that both situations will bring you in trouble most likely, but I can tell you that one of those choices would piss her royally off and rightly so. Not communicating is the worst mistake you can make in communication.
I don't like quoting from movies, because movies are for fun and not for deciphering the wisdoms of life, but I think this one actually fits quite well... "He wasn't a bad leader because he made bad decisions. He was a bad leader because he madeno decisions".
I'm sorry for critizising you. I really appreciate your presence, I'd just like it to get even more effective because I'd hate to leave this game.

ok, how about this analogy...
In RL anyone can opperate an automobile. They are simple (as many of stated droids are). However, given the responsibility that comes with operating an automobile in public - we are required to obtain a license (certification) to operate them. Thus, its not far fetched to require certification at specific levels of a profession to operate a battle droid.
well actually.... during this timeframe in star wars..... most combat driods are OUTLAWED by the Empire.... so the only way around that would be illegal use of driods by the rebels, or specially permitted driods by the empire..... or smuggled, illegal driods used by smugglers.
thats the continuity of it (from my perspective)..... but how they would impliment a system like that in SWG, dont ask me. i honestly dont think the dev's will be able to pull this off the right way... they'll choose playerbase over continuity, which is fine because if things continue that way, im heading to WoW or MxO when they come out.
just to add to the discussion...... i think the best way (in terms of continuity but not neccessarily gameplay) would be to allow anybody to use medium to low level driods (but at a cost, both to purchase and to maintain their condition) and to Turn driod engineer into a 50/50 combat/crafting profession that grants them the ability to use the remaining High Level driods.

TH -- I understand the considerate amount of works you guys have, but I was wonderin... Will there be any in game music added for example when im in town like a longer mp3 instead of just the sun rise and night time themes, also wonder more battle theme songs and would be nice to have some music while just exploring through ... I really do think this will beef up the starwarsy ness if more music was added
Plz give a response to this TH will there be more music ugghh i need music
TH -- Another thing ... I was wondering are you guys going to make profession specific quests for example I am a pistoleer and i talk to someone in town who has an emote mabey of /beg to show that it is an import quest that is interesting and may recieve an awsome item or just the thrill.... but anyway a quest for a pistoleer.... say you have a mission where a pistoleer has to go to some factorythat contains illegal shipments of weapons and if you can go in there infiltrate the factory either kill the main leader or question him and find out where the illegal stuff are..... that would end the example. Well i would like an answer to that thanx

Any word from Lithium on getting your posts to show up in DevTracker again? It really hurts not being able to see them there.
I agree. They are working on it now.

I have nothing but respect for you and all the others who make SWG great. But please take a look at this link. don't let the words of the few spoil it for the rest.
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=52116&view=by_date_ascending&page=1I read the whole thing. I sent a link to the thread and the sentiments expressed to the dev team.
In response, Runsabre will be posting a big overview on the design challenges this afternoon. It's trickier than it seems.
For instance, if a grouping of professions gets "Droid Certifications", then you instantly get a migration of people to that profession to get the combat advantages. The advantage is simply doubling your combat balance. For instance, If Im a Carbineer and I have a droid, I've essentially doubled my combat abilities. So If I group with someone else who has access to high level droids, 2 players = 4, 4 players = 8 and so on.
Combat becomes out of balance and too easy. If that were the case all combat would have to be increased in difficulty. If 4 players suddenly have the same combat ability as 8, you can see how things would spin out of control.
The alternative is to stick put a "droid handling tree" in with Droid engineers. The confusion came in because over the past few weeks, DE's have stated they would prefer to be a crafting profession. In the shakeout, it seems the issue has many angles.
We're going to try and get to the bottom of it this week.
Thank you.
I am glad that you were able to have a look at the link. I understand that getting the balance right will be difficult especially with resolving combat DE vs. crafting DE issue.
I my self would be happy with a droid with a slightly better combat ability then the pro and fugitive droids to defend my self. But more then that all I want is to see that DE is just cleaned up a bit. E.g. Binary load lifters are given a purpose, the ability to repair/recharge your own droids and maybe a few extra modules.
but all in all i'm just happy to see that the system works.

Hi TH looks like your going to be busy reading all this, but if you do get a moment could you take a look at this thread we had some really good ideas going by the end of it, on a subject that effects a very large slice of the player base
P.S sorry about how i started it hehe

Any reply to this would be great. Even if it's just to say thought about it and NO
The answer is YES.
It does effect a lot of people and its better for the game to remove the camp requirements to pull a vehicle.
COOOL!
