Thread: Vehicle Issues...
Blair,
Various people from your team keep asking this, we keep answering, you keep asking. ![]()
Have someone meet me on TC tomorrow (Monday) and I will show you how to poof a bike.
I've been using my bike to do the Exploration badges. After about 3000 meters worth of travelling, everyone in my group would lose their bike. They'd just vanish.
Otherwise they're great - I can't wait to see player owned starships.
Hey i don't even have a vehical and i get the sounds when ever someone starts moveing i get he loud sound.
Could we just take that sound out or replace it with some thing a little lower in volume.
Ranama
I can't really comment on the duping thing, since my vehicles have been storing properly since the most recent hotfix. However, I can tell you that vehicles seem to be disappearing at two times:
-Entering/exiting a player house
-Crossing a server boundry
These two things seem to make vehicles "autostore".
I had it with a mount. You call a pet. You mount it..then you could call a duplicate and you had 2 mounts.
this was fixed at some point but now you have same problem with vehicles.
I used to had people tell me "hee I see your pet here..while i was riding it 2 km further"
maybe some old pet code sneaked into the vehicle code?
Maybe it has something to do with this?
Vehicles that are orphaned will automatically clean themselves up.
I find I am much more likely to lose the vehicle if I have exited it and re-entered it after I've called it, but that isn't the only time I've lost it.
I still have rare cases where I can't storea bike - usually because I tried to store it while still on it.
I'm also still having issues with auto-store, although it seemed after one patch it was working fine, then was suddenly back with avengance.
It'shard to say what's happening because often I'm not on it, or near it. The worst I've seen it was twice in half an hour, riding around the area north-west of theed (far north-west, down the cliff, around the beaches). Both times it was the same. I got off about 80m from my target mission, ran around a bit doing the killing then went to get back on my bike only to find it was gone.
Other interesting events including suddenly being "thrown" into the air - bike and all- then settling back down to normal hover hieght (which I consider to be too low anyway
).
I've also had the issue of the bike moving several metres away, even hundreds of metres when i get the "out of range" message on a store attempt. It's usually gotten stuck against part of the scenery in this case and has warped back to the point it got stuck.
Rubber-banding and warp when dismounting are identical to that experienced getting off pets (not that I can get off my mount atm, since it's a falumpaset with a difficulty level of 1 (-1) and uncallable
).
Last little issue I can think of is that sometimes when I get off my bike it moves to a few metres away - not warps, literally rides itself off some small distance and parks.
Sounds like the core problem is that the bike and the rider are treated as two seperate entities. Wouldn't it work better to have the bike as merely a "visual" - a graphical attachment like a piece of armour - and while you have a bike "generated" the player is subject to a different set of movement mechanics. (Oh, and they don't go fast enough - any chance of, at least, a vehicle equivalent of burst run?).
Don't know if any of this helps you, but all those little digs made me feel much better =D

I don't know what makes a bike poof, but there seems to be a tendency (for me) for them to vanish (autostore) when I'm in the vicinity of a city, other times, its just for no apparent reason.
Also, several days ago (on saturday morning actually), I noticed that my bike had somehow repaired most of the damage itself. The thing is that I had gotten it the night before and I had ridden around on it quite alot and it showed some damage, I went to the GCW base on naboo (south of Lake Retreat) and logged for the night, not before storing my vhenichle of course. And then, when I got on sat morning, the bike had repaired itself mostly. To use percentages, the bikehad 80% HAMwhen I logged, but when I came back on in the morning, it was like 97-98% HAM. Somehow the bike had self repaired, or maybe something at the GCW base repaired it. Anyway, didn't see it happen again, so it may have been a glitch.
That happens to me too. It happens when I go over a high hill or go over a deep crevasse or something. I consider it to be a normal part of the physics of SWG. Same thing happens to a mountain bike when you go really fast over the crest of a hill.
Other interesting events including suddenly being "thrown" into the air - bike and all- then settling back down to normal hover hieght (which I consider to be too low anyway
).
Dont forget, when you sometimes are in a very busy city the lag is so bad that you cant store your bike/vehical. Its taken me 20 mins to store my bike wile in a busy city like corenet, corellia.
