Team comments:

Soon we will go through one of the biggest changes on how people play the game. THis change will deal with a fundamental combat change that I think will excite you.

Good letter and it is always interesting knowing what the devs etc are doing and what they have been upto, but why can't we have comments like the above, give out better info, instead of talking like one of yoda's riddles.

Is this fundamental combat change the H.A.M. change or the whole combat balance, is there time frame for this fundamental combat change, they said 3 months for the combat pass, that was in december, due to been a carbaneer/BH I await the new H.A.M. system greatly. But I don't see any notes in the publish 7 preview regarding the H.A.M. change.

Anychance of a bit more info pls and maybe a timeframe.

The whole thing, but in this case I was specifically referring to the HAM changes.

I'm one of the younger gamers (under 18)and I must say that I envy your job. Video games and my artwork (paintings, sculpting, hand-drawings, ect.) are my passions, and those are the things I want to do for a living. I need direction!

I've played video games since the 16-bit Nintendo with Contra and Duck-Hunt/Mario pack, and this is my first MMORPG. I'm loving it. Even with my school work and such, I've given up a social life and mastered 20 professions.

Sometimes, the negative things I hear from people discourage me more than bugs or anything else. I don't know how you guys handle it, but good work. I just hope I make my slot in time before the revamp.

And often we get no response at all, and then months later we see the notes for Publish 7 that goes a LONG way to addressing wants and concerns we've had for ages.

Can we expect to keep seeing red names in the forums, and maybe even on a more frequent basis?

Good question. Honestly, this is something that each developer struggles with on a daily basis. The question is always where can we do the most good. In my case, I usually focus on communicating Update notes and server downtime and relying on Thunderheart to answer questions as to why does X work the way that it does.

Also, understand the there are literally hundreds of thousands of posts on the boards right now. The fact is we can’t keep up with you even if we tried, so what we can respond to will always feel like a drop in the ocean. If you read the Publish 7 notes and were pleased that means we are listening and responding to you. The process of getting something out to live once it is complete isn’t swift for a lot of valid reasons.

Me too. We just focus on making the best game we can. When people see nice posts they send them to the team from time to time and that helps.

I've made this suggestion before, and I'm going to do it again here although I'm not certain it's appropriate to this thread.

Can we get a Known Issues page (or forum, if you want to keep it private from non-subscribers) for bugs/corrections that are acknowledged by the devs and are on the list of things to look at? Just a list, maybe organized by categories of profession, etc. of what you devs have recognized as things that need to be fixed, possibly highlighting the ones that are the current focus (or not...I'm sure there are people who would complain about that). Each time a new bug or problem is confirmed, it is added to the list.

This might cut down on the amount of "OMG they don't even know this is broken? They don't pay attention to us!" posts and gives us a resource to look at before posting something hundreds of other people have already commented on.

Not sure how feasible this is, but it was a godsend in beta.

Can't say for SURE (Since I don't work there) but I am about 99.997% sure that they already use a bug tracking database (Such as PVCS) The question becomes one of.... What can the dev's let us see.

Consider the fact that such a database is probably running a couple hundred "open" items at any one time. Also consider the fact that, mixed in with the rest, are game exploits that need to be patched, and "content" that would be considered as a "spoiler" if it became widely known [For example...Bug: container under Jabba's butt does not contains a +22 Flame Thrower instead of the +2....]

So, someone would have to "sanitize" the list and publish it. This list is NOT going o be the one the dev's work from. Their PVCS (or whatever) has the functionality they need to record builds/code checkouts/change history/etc...etc...etc... The "web" page would be just a window for the end users...

They don't have anyone tasked with such a job...

(Of course, If they NEED someone, I could send my resume )

Can someone tell me WHY they are changing the HAM system? No one has given any explanation of why it's changing.

To tell you the truth, I see no need to change it. If it ain't broke (which it isn't), don't fix it.

The current HAM system is simple, intuitive and easy to understand. It makes sense for players. Why change it? What is the compelling reason behind this change, which I suspect will be nothing more than a nerf to people's combat abilities.

I would like to know why you state SWG to be an MMO instead of an MMORPG.

Living the Star Wars saga is playing a role isnt it ?
