first off,

kuddos to all you devs filtering real feedback from all this whining & flaming posts like: "I'll quit the game if this happens ...blah blah blah". That is so annoying - i couldn't stand it!

In my opinion as a long time master merchant, limiting the item count to 250 per vendor is no problem at all. Even Furniture Vendors don't need more items in it to represent all available furniture there is to offer. i don't believe that someone sells 250 items that fast that he isn't able to refill the vendor befor it ran out.

oh ...and i'm looking forward to expand my little business to different planets, once we'll get 12 vendors to use :-))

well, there are good ideas to improve this profession (that can be found in the merchant profession board) and i keep my fingers crossed that we get a merchants revamp soon.

until then - keep up the good work you're doing

While the 250 items per vendor is alot better than what was propossed previosly. Elite crafters still fail to see why we don't get atleast 1 vendor in our chosen profession. While i fully understand the empty vendor issue and other similer issues, you're basicly taking vendors out of the hands of the people that would need and use those vendors. Now artisans get 2 vendors, yet WS/DE/Arch/AS/Chef/Tailor never get one as a profession perk, I fail to see the logic in that being that those 6 professions make up most of the games "Crafting Economy". This creates alot of hatred from crafters toward the Merchant "profession" as merchant realy takes no skill to master, yet gets all the sales perks. You would be doing the comumity as a whole a large favor by giving Elite crafting professions some sort of outlet inside of thier chosen profession, our only alternative to the "merchant point sink" is the bazaar which is a joke because of the very low price cap and no real auction option, at the very least do away with the auction cap as auction is only used to advertise now as it is.

Other than that I can fully accept the 250 item limit per vendor

Well, I have to say, we predicted this, and personally, I would VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IT if you would stop this insult to our collective intelligence. Are the developers' skin so thin that you need to make changes in such a way to make a thread such as this one necessary?

How many times have you made an unpopular change, then right before it goes live, you managed to "magically" negotiate some lessened version of it?

Please stop with the games. Tell us what changes need to be made. Be unapologetic and direct. Explain it in the most complete terms.

It makes me sad to see you do this sort of thing...it is bait and switch in the worst way.

Merchant is not a real profession and never will be. People that chose to dump thier skill points into it are looking for the dev's to give them "validity" so they can claim that thier profession is on level with the professions that you actualy have to be loged into the game to to get xp from.

Dear Ofim,

just because you didn't get the kicks out of it, doesn't mean no one does ...others do! And believe me being a merchant can be fun & a profession at its best

oh ...btw ...playing a profession isn't just to gain xp, you know ....it's about playing your character.

I am sure the answer to this is yes. After 30 days, stuff will drop into the 'stockroom' and you will not be able to move it storefront. Then after 7 days you will lose stuff. This is part of what they are going for - stopping vendors from being unlimited storage.

however this Merchant-Revamp is the stupid way to seperate crafters and fighters.

People tend to forget that Merchant and Crafters are two different Classes. It a little bit like Marksman and Rifleman, if you want to be good with a Rifle, you need Rifleman, not only Marksman Rifles 4.

If you drop your crafting-skills because of this Nerf, its ok. You had the wrong aproach from start.

Be lucky about this.

This has got to be the most illogical thing I read today (aside from said thread name-sake post)....

what the heck would a merchant SELL if it werent for crafting classes? Im truly interested to know what you have to say....

rinse and repeat.....hey look its a circular reference everyone!

I hate such big quotes....sigh.

Well, just think through it:

Crafter -> makes a Product

Merchant -> sells a Product

Whats not logical here?

You have a product, you want get it to the market, you need a sales-channel. You can either Sell it yourself with you limited sales and marketing-abilities or try an indirect sales-channel, a Merchant.

Nobody prevents you from selling your Stuff at the Bazaar or at the cities, guess what people did in the first few months of the game :-)

Getting everything at once is something you can put into your letter to santa, but its a wish. If you want the skill, you have to pay the the skillpoints. Thats the same for every class in the game.

ZERO means to establish a contract in this game.

ZERO means to have secure consignment sales in this game.

ZERO means to sell placed structures.

ZERO means to package items visibly for the buyer.

Maybe in your fantasy land there's a world of trust out there between players, but in SWG the devs have completely designed a system full of means to screw a fellow player at the drop of a hat.

You are so wrong. All professions in this game are real.

If you look in the 19 answes threads TH clearly states that it was never the intention that vendors be kept after dropping the skill.

This has been a bug since beta and has now been addressed.

The intent is that you either make the skill point sacrifice, sell to a merchant wholesale so he can sell retail or you work out a consignment deal. That is what I did when I was a doctor/pistoleer. I sold to a merchant for 15% below retail and I did not have to deal with the vendor.

The sole reason people never considered the merchant profession as legitimate was because of a long standing bug.

Skill points are a balancing factor and this beina a MMO you are not intended to have skills without a cost. there are some skills that are given but the fact that you had to learn a skill originally should be a red flag to you on the intent

Nice one TH, thanks for pushing for a rehash of the original design. I do feel though that once one has11 merchants there is little reason to continue to Master except for those who HAVE to have the additional 250 slots, so I'm glad to hear you also want to push for a greater benefit for the use of those skill points.

Cafa's post above, though a little harsh, is very true. And I know this needs repeating on the Merchant boards, but the words need saying:

We desperately need the ability to create more trade agreements, business associations and enhanced, effortlessreward for customer loyalty. We should have the option of studying Merchant without spending skills on crafting if we also love to go out and fight. Allowing us to sell for crafters without going out of pocket to do so would be a vital step in the right direction.
