always viewed the xp needed to get a box in CH in terms of how many mobs I'd have to kill that gave me 100 xp. This is a good yardstick because that's how much you get on average for killing low level mobs outside the cities with a low level pet. Getting the 4th level of any of the branches costs 140,000xp. To me, that means 1,400 kills. For each box. Given that it seems that with one pet you can get about 20,000xp per hour, that would mean 7 hours per box - or 28 hours (of mind-numbing boredom) for just the 4th level of CH. I always liked that getting Management 3 rewarded you with a way to effectively half that time. If I look at the whole CH tree, that would be about 1 million xp (give or take a few) or 50 hours of killing low level mobs - wow! Getting a way to reduce that (not quite in half - lets say to 30) seemed very reasonable. Making Master CH in 30 hours of gameplay of CH (you of course had to get to the novice box - not sure how long that takes anymore) seems very fair. 30 hours of gameplay is what you get out of most single-player games before it is over. And that's if you do something pretty dull like that - but it is a good yardstick. Most of the time I'd say a CH spends twice that in game because of doing things like taming, killing real mobs, etc.

I agree, cranking out experience like that must be an incredibly boring experience. If you have reasonable weapon skills, then even more so cos you'll only get 1 exp per kill.

Do you not think it is better to sacrifice the rush and go hunt something a little more challenging? Your weapon experience would fly up even though your CH progression will slow. You will also earn a pile more money from looting bigger MOBs and have a lot more fun. I always find my experience shoots up much quicker if I just ignore it and get on with the game.

Ok answer me this one, if you switch to a more powerful pistol, does your xp per kill go down? No, it doesnt. IF you switch to a more powerful mob, you need a powerful pet, cause if he gets incapped, no xp for you. A more powerful pet = less xp per kill, possibly down to a token 1 xp.

"Pet Issue: What will happen to 'legacy' pets that are currently CL 10-15? Will they become unusable by the non-CH who has purchased/been given them under the current CL 15 system? Will they be rebalanced to CL 10 either automatically or through some voluntary means? Should people like me, who have been giving CL 12 and 14 female and male kaadu as gifts to non-CH friends be worried about whether they'll be mountable?

Unfortunately, most of these pets will be stuck in your datapad. You won't be able to call them or trade them (unless they know the transfer command), because they are higher level than 10. Your only option will be to destroy the PCD. "

Do I understand this correct? Is this what will happen to a non CH when/if these changes go live?

A non CH has a pet of level 11 to 15 that doesn't know transfer command in datapad. Pet must be destroyed.
A non CH has a pet of level 11 to 15 that knows transfer command in datapad. Pet can be transfered from datapad to another player.
A non CH has a mountable pet of level above 10 that doesn't know transfer command in datapad. Pet must be destroyed.
A non CH has a mountable pet of level above 10 that knows transfer command in datapad. Pet can be transfered to a BE that will lower the pet level to 10 so it can be used as a mount.

Will Kaadus and Carrion Spats be lowered from lvl 12 to lvl 10 when mounts will be released so non CH can use them as mounts?

I agree wholeheartedly here. I have not been playing more than a month yet, and I found CH to be a great "side profession" although nothing I'd want to master. Its a LOT of fun finding and taming and training new pets for me. While I have not been around long enough maybe to warrant me giving my opinion, I feel the need to give voice to the majority of players when I say that the changes being made are nothing short of wimping the populace as a whole who choose to just dabble in CH. I have been an admin on a very successful MUD for 6 years now, and if nothing else I have learned that wimping is the kiss of death for a game. If you are in the business of gaming to make money, wimping the characters that players have worked hard to make decent just upsets people. If you find an imbalance it is much more preferable to strengthen weaknesses elsewhere rather than weaken someone accustomed to being fairly strong (ie...by wimping CH and non-CH stuff to the point that you have to be an MCH to do anything now). I am glad that someone came to their senses and upped the proposed stat changes, but really, if you want to keep turning a profit I'd suggest thinking more towards strengthening weaknesses rather than weakening strengths, particularly if you plan on competing with the newer games coming to market, like the Matrix, and World of Warcraft.

On the positive side, it will be nice to see new babies, etc unleashed, although it will probably take an MCH to tame and use them.

Thats my 2 cents, for what its worth.

Well, I don't know what to say... I went from , "That's the straw that broke the camel's back!" to, "Finally a compromise that sounds reasonable!"... Of all the changes to anything in game so far, it actually seems like you listened to EVERYONE before making a change, and then weighed the dynalics to try and find a real viable solution...

Thank you.

must admit i liked the old restructuring with only a few minor complaints but this new one is even better. Now instead of losing alot as a MCH I am gaining more. Feel sorry for the few mAsters Who jumped the gun and abondened ship so early. lol and Yes there were a few. I sold one a Rockbeetle lol. Nice change there Devs. Good work Thunderheart on actually getting them to listen for once since this game has been released.

Novice Creature Handlers will be the ONLY combat class that cannot get XP in their chosen profession while mounted. Novice CH should get 1 combat pet and 1 mount at the same time. Otherwise in a group of novices, the pistoleer, bounty hunter, rifleman, carbineer, smuggler, and commando will all be getting weapon xp while riding around at burst speed. The Novice CH of the group will need to dismount, call a tent, store their mount and call their combat pet. Please think about this!!!!

variety of pets also *Need* extinct ones..

specially webmasters or other unique pets we have currently extinct

they spice up the common pet lists and one would feel special owning one of such

if u nerf or make em tameable again.. they'd blend back into the gray boring list of popular pets

Keep pets likethe super rare and extinct burrower queen UNIQUE..not like acowardlygurreckwhicheveryone hasby the dozens

And i dont mean dont bring new babies.. u can always bring more babies theres soo many creatures we cant tame atm.. and we've never had

This sounds like a much better though out approach, and Very well balanced, specially if they move the special attacks to master so that dabbllers cannot have acces to them.

Q?: Will pets still use their speciall attacks automatically or will this be reserved now for Master as Proposed?

Thanks and Good Going on Rethinking the Changes.

Also, we're making your probot tougher.

Are you (now) able to parse the database to apply changes to existing items in the database or will wesoon end up with pre-nerf Probots, post-nerf Probots and post-fix Probots - whilst simultaneously reducing the value of my Probot stock (I'm a Merchant not DE) to 0 because everyone will want a 'fixed' one

(as you recently did when you 'fixed' bounty hunter droids to have multiple charges but failed to apply that change the the droids already created)?
