Thread: Weekly Rountdable Discussion (Week Ending 2-1-04)
from the Test Center Patch Notes:
________________________________________________________________
Players will now get a popup when they are city warned, incase they miss the message behind other windows.
________________________________________________________________
is this supposed to say 'city banned' instead of 'city warned'?
Neither - its an old patch note that snuck in and its been yanked.

Because knockdown, while a very cool move in theory is very exploitable. In rapid succession, its used to pin players down and create many situations where players can't get back up. The devs are working on a compromise to keep KDs in, but not in a way where it can be exploited so badly.
This "rapid succesion" was already addressed in a KD nerf several months ago. The 30 second timer was introduced. So it can no longer be spammed to pin players down creating many situations where players can't get up. The Devs have already compromised on KD's once before, and it can no longer be exploited so badly.
What you are seeing is KD in conjunction with either Dizzy, or Delay moves. KD+Dizzy will keep someone down until the Dizzy either wears off, or is removed by a Doctor using the remove state ability. The majority of the complaints about this combination are from players who do not have a Doctor in their group, or are in 1 on 1 combat with a class that has access to this combination.
Almost EVERY combat class has this combination available to them. Even though it may not seem like it. The Fencer has a Dizzy attack, and they also have a Posture Change attack that can force their opponent to kneeling or to prone if already kneeling. What will happen when the opponent tries to change posture again, is they will fall over and, in effect, be KD+Dizzy.
There should be no changes made to the KD+Dizzy attack, as there is already an in game mechanic to deal with it,that mechanic beingthe Doctor skill, Remove State.
Delay + KD is a different story, as that is able to keep a player pinned down for long periods of time if they are hit with Warcry 2, a Master Brawler attack, or Panic Shot, while knocked down.
So, basically what you have just said means that any person using a KD move, can potentially be suspended or banned because of your careless use of the word "exploit".
Do you have any sort of news about the Space Expansion at all? Even a "we're still working on it" would satisfy me. =P
TH could you please consider doing something about House Doors.Litterally every movement made in my house I get spammed with door opening noises. Its incredibly annoying and unrealistic and everytime I go into my house I gotta turn my speakers off. Could you not create an option for manual opening of doors in the structural menu? We could then in turn have a macro for "open door"?
I love this game, but when I baught SWG I expected fantastic graphics (which they are), and a good feel of realism to it. One of the things I was quite disappointed by was the fact that I could seemingly walk through tables, shoot people and creatures through mounds of soil and walls, walk throughwalls, vehicals, errm well alot of things really. I know there are reasons behind this, but say when we call our vehicles could we not have them spawn right ontop of us with our bodies going through thevehicle itself.Maybe spawn it just beside us? I know this sounds petty but it severly reduces the reality of the enviroment that we play in, and just makes it look .... well...poor :/.
Also maybe some extra moventment that the character does when they're on/in their vehicles would be nice. At the moment they just look so stale and rigid fixed into theyre riding positions.
Any form of feedback on this would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I have a question..
With everything being balanced for PVP doesnt this leave the people who don't PVP out in the cold? While you make sure PROFESSION A can't destory 10PROFESSION B'sin PVP you are also making sure that PROFESSION A is going to be destroyed in PvE. You guys keep balancing things for PVP and making PVE more and more unbalanced. I know it's hard to tell but a lot of people don't play this game just to PVP.
Thats a good question. Thats why there is a focus on getting the dungeons in. Also, a lot of the correspondent issues are non-combat/PvE enhancing.
One thing to consider is that the Combat Balance is just as important to PvE as it is PvP. The combat balance all by itself solves almost 40% of the Correspondent issues.
(fwiw, roughly 15% of players are engaged in PvP though that number fluctuates a bit).
Well that's a politicians answer if I ever heard one.. ![]()
Here is another one for you.. On one of the boards you answered someones question about spamming by saying that with the combat revamp spamming would be a thing of the past. Do I take this to mean that the new HAM system is going to punish me for using specials more often? In other words are Special Attacks going to be damaged by the new HAM system? Do the devs not want us using the attacks that we have earned as much as we do and want us to just use normal ./attack more often?
I'll let you talk it over with your cabinet before responding.
IMHO I think, and so do most of us, that the priorities of the developers should be fixing the broken professions bugs first, then add new content... but most importantly, listen to the players, they are what keep the lights on and the paychecks rolling in. There's alot of MMORGP competition coming out this year, and the way it seems I think SWG's #'s will drop dramatically by year's end unless some major acknowledgement of the issues since launch are corrected in a timely fassion. I'd hate to see all my hard work, and every1 elses, go down in "flames" like it is now on these boards.

There are lots of ideas for sure, but right now, the team is focused on the Combat balance, the GCW, the Jedi Revamp, Correspondent/CSR issues, the publish theme, getting the existing professions improved and the dungeons. Brand new stuff is going to be a ways off for sure.
So thats Combat, Combat, Jedi, Customer Service, more Combat, a hint of Crafting, and more Combat...??
That's a shame Thunderheart, as I am findingSWG more & more unrealistic and out-of-balance as the days go by. I am giving serious consideration to getting off the resource chasing merry-go-round, and maybe out of Crafting as well, as the fun is slowly slipping away....
....so much for being the founder of the pre-eminent Crafting Player Association.....
Try number 4...
