These are some neat ideas, however I think it would be more rewarding if Administrators or SOE staffpersonally gave out special titles (like special badges are rewarded to players in-game)rather than relying on post count and/or ranking system to do it for us. Special titles could be somewhat personalized for each player depending on their service to the community.

In the end most of us will end up with the samefew titles anyway - just like it is now.

While you Devs are revamping the forums, why don't yougive a few of the more mature responsible posters moderatorrightswho can action some of the retarded behaviour that goes on in here.

While I like this, I don't think they have the man power. Call me skeptical, but I still think the 1 star ninjas will make the star ranks useless. If this were a community with only mature, reasonable adults...then it wouldn't be a problem. But this community has 2 or 3 immature children for every rational person.

I get 1 stared just because they disagree with me, no matter how elloquently and rationally I've stated my case or point. *shrug* I've had a 3.0 average for quite some time, and I highly doubt its possible to change that.

Edit:

Wait... On the star system... am I going to be ranked based on the rankings I GIVE to people or the rankings they GIVE to me? If the star rankings are based on the rankings I GIVE to people...then I'll just not ever give a 1 star? Perhaps I need an asprin, cause I really feel stupid right now...

Firstly, I always think forum rankings are fun. I mean, whenever I end up posting regularly to a board that allows special titles, I never choose one for myself because I just think it's fun to progress among the ranks. It's not something my life depends on or that I work hard at, it's just a little something extra that I consider to be fun and interesting.

Having said that, however, I do see a few problems with the system. While I can certainly see some of the newer posters having star ranking titles, I suspect that the vast majority of people who post, once they hit...say, 6 months are so, you are going to see probably less than 1% of the people with star rankings instead of normal rankings. For most of the regular contributors to these forums, it is much much easier to achieve the normal rankings simply by being here over time and making 2 or 3 posts a day. Which, let's face it, are never going to all be starred highly. That doesn't matter to me that much. I mean, especially since our "abilities" are going to be the same no matter which type of ranking we achieve, it's not a big deal. But, if you are truly aiming to have some sort of diversity, you're definitely going to either have to make the star rankings not so difficult or the normal rankings not so easy, or a combination of the two. As it stands now, there are very few people who even have a 4.0 star rating, which pretty much leaves them out of the star ranking system once they've hit 6 months. Everyone but an extreme few people are going to have the normal rankings. And, a ranking of 4.9, there's no way in heck someone who's posted 1000 posts is going to ever achieve that. Most people, after they've posted only 50 times can't even achieve that.

Not trying to poopoo the idea or anything. Like I said, I think this sorta stuff is fun. But, I'm just trying to be realistic.

I like how it's partially time based though, just like they are now, only because if they weren't you'd see a lot of people just going around posting one line nonsense, spamming the boards just to get a higher rank. Of course, it doesn't mean that just because someone's been on the forums longer makes them better than anyone else. However, if people can abuse something, they will, we all know that. My post count is high not because I purposely tried to get it that high. It's just that I like to run my trap.

But, I suspect we'll see a large amount of normal ranked people and very few star ranked people. Perhaps the star rankings can be an average of both ratings given and ratings received.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me. Iwould hopethat one star nazis will not be that big of a factor. There are more than enough good and responsible people on the boards to balance them out. As well, don't forget that they "are putting measures in to be able to track and even "title" these posters so everyone will know who they are. When we findsomeone who abuses the rating systemwe do lower their "rating" weight to prevent abuse". This should be fun!

*nods*

Same situation for me. 3.0 rating for as long as I can remember and precisely the reason I think most of us will end up with the same star system rating. If SOE decides to go forward with these changes, I would like to see some type of delay (threshold) for rating posts. Nobody should be allowed to go through a thread 1-starring each and every post at their leisure.

It's been said several times, INCLUDING by GarVa himself....The Devs and Forum Admins are TWO DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS!!!!

THe Devs don't work on the forum, and the Admins don't work on the game. Please get the information straight.
