That's my point. The Ranger/Scout, per the devs manuals and game theory were to be the best at PVE, but they are the worse. And with the new patch, they are unplayable. We Scout/Rangers played the class because that is what we wanted to be. The devs have an idea on what we players "Should" be, and they will continue to nerf the classes until he conform to their "Ideal". The game was at one time fluid and belonged to the players. We were free to take our professions in the directions we wanted to. But the devs have decided they know better than us. We pay the bills. Its about time the devs woke up and quit playing with the new Space moduals and pay attention to the game. And I mean play the game the way we do, no cheats, no uber-macros or back doors or God settings. Do we want a game that is all Jedis or TKA/Fencers?

I'd like to bring attention to two bugs;


1: Previously in the game (pre patch), which hadit been fixed may alleviate the defence isues that perhaps some players had....is the problem where defence-stacked Rifle user is for some reason avoiding all/most hits against melee. i proved this bug the day b4 the patch, tanking the whole mokk camp on dantooine with a rifle, if i switched to VK's, i start taking what i consider normal hits and dmg for the defence i had (and thus end up dead if i continued solo


this is gone with new patch obviouslybut i think it was the real issue, and reason forsome players calling for a cap when they didnt understand its a bug... rightly so i guess, *but devs should have known all about this and addressed the problem incrementally, starting here.*


2:still within the game and affects dmg vs armor. occasionally, now more frequently, some attacks (agaisnt you) seem to bypass a full suit of armor. Me and a friend on Endor proved this last night....myself with ubese and my friend using composite, both fully clad. about 30% of hits we got where not reduced by the armor. in effect, we get 200 health dmg instead of 40. this appears to be random and the creature didntnescessarily use specials to achive this.


***One more thing, a fundamental problem i believe with the test center, how many players make fully maxxed defence chars on there? was thisdefence capreally tested in this aspect? maybe ppl do, but i hardly go to test center..


my wish, is that the defence changes are reverted, bugs concerning rifles and armor fixed....and *just a slight melee to-hit bonus*against ranged weapon holderis applied... i think the "heavier" the weapon, the moreyour defenceis modified and the weapon could state something likeeg, -20 melee defence, when examined. i know i am dreaming, they havent even addressed this forum yet.

I came to this tread to find out if my 119 melee defence was leagal, and read all 9 pages of this. I'm baffeled. Granted I dont do any PvP, and I am kinda stacked, but when you make a living following Rancor and Merek Harvesters with a turkey baster, you want to be able to take a few hits. I have noticed no difference in my defence, save the fact by the time I heal myself with a stimm I have lost 3 attacks worth of time.


The only thing I can think of that would lead to this many complaints, is that both my combat classes are are melee and many of you are mixing brawler with marksman. Over all I must say I am happy with the direction the game is moving. The best suggestion I can make is to stay flexable, the game is changeing and if you are not willing to change your character with it, you only accomplish upseting yourself.

Riflemen whining about getting wasted by nunas? Ohh... too bad the Devs fixed the rifle bug. You got spoiled by having a rifle make you 2.5 times harder to hit in melee. Now adjust and stop whining. Remember when wielding a rifle meant you took 2.5 times the normal damage in melee? Those were hard times.


Really, if all your complaints center about how much harder the game became... then stop it. I heard too many moan how easy it was, how there was no challenge and stuff. Now you have a challenge, try to meet it instead of moaning and whining.

In response to being flexible, and adapting to changes i actully dropped fencer/pistoleer (dodge i knew was to be capped) and took up Rifleman/TKM/fencer just before the update, because according to SOE documentation thereno mention of changes to melee/ranged defence stacking.


Ive just given up on this char altogether now because ive no idea whats going to happen.


Please SOE be more specific when documenting the changes!

Kd def is broke now too for any of you that PvP you would probably know this. Before patch I was very hard to kd now kd never fails on my toon. TKA duels are once more who can hammer the kd button fastest and a tkm/master combat prof is now no better than a tkm/master crafter, actually worse cuz he has less earning potential (this was the complaint with the cap in the beginning but apparently nobody listens, and if addressed, it was addressed very very poorly).


I agree that alot of the complaints in here are probably relative to the weapon type uses and the melee to hit bonus, but something went wrong with my toon, and the toons of everyone in my guild.


Basically all that is left once you max your template is big game loot hunts, and PvP. I refuse to make my character a medic/rifleman clone to make him effective in PvP because that is where this is going with all the nerfs and the armor, stun damage for very few profs (only 1 prof that has a mind targeted shot), and the removal of special mind damage in publish 8. Dev's tried to widen the base of players that could PvP effectively, and apparently they though breaking defenses was how to do it. If they would use their heads and think about it they know that the powergamers will just all remake their toons to be the most effective possible in PvP and taking away the d stackers(which were far from unbeatable all you whiners need to shut your mouths) just makes the variety of toons that are effective in PvP that much smaller. I am a TKM/Master Swordsman so all of you that think I am whining cuz my stacking d's got nerfed can go add the points up yourselves and see where that puts my defenses. And Dev's you can do that too, see where it puts my defenses, and tell me why my toon got broken.

I happen to have multiple melee classes and can tell you for a fact thatthese problemshave nothing (or at least little)to do with mixing ranged vs. melee. I am Master Heavy Sword and TK (0-0-0-4). When I am unarmed or using VK I get hit less than when using sword now since most of my defense comes from the TK tree, and this is considering the Counterattack from sword too; but I also get hit for more damage (since I have Melee Mitigation 3 from Sword). This issue makes no logical sense to me.


As much as I love this game, if this issue isn't fixed (OR AT LEAST FRIGGIN ACKNOWLEDGED) I will cancel my account. I have had faith in this game from the beginning and have defended its many bugs as part of the ongoing development process, but in the past few weeks as I have followed this thread I have been greatly disheartened by the lack of concern by the devs. Whether or not this change in combat will become permanent, something at least needs to be posted in this thread by the devs. Tell us what you are thinking. We know from the crafting/experimentation change that it can't possibly take this long to acknowledge. IF NOTHING ELSE, AT LEAST TELL US THAT YOU ARE CONSIDERING OUR CONCERNS. TELL US THAT THIS IS THE WAY IT'S GOING TO STAY. TELL US SOMETHING!!!

Getting hit for less (unarmed)is due to the Unarmed Toughness from the Precision line of TK being much Higher than the Two Handed Toughness from Swordsman, even at master. This has always been the case, I get it too with Master Fencer TK 2,3,0,4 I honestly have no idea what melee damagemitigation actually does...I know what it is meant to do but I have yet to see it make any difference.


As for getting hit more often, I can't explain that. Someone in the Fencer forum was suggesting that it appeared armour (or a lack of) was making your defenses better...He later retracted that statement as he had logged on and there seemed to be no change between armoured to unarmoured...Ironically I had said I hadn't noticed anything then next day I took on a dozen ST's, they all spread out so I had to chase each one down to kill them...Not ONE hit me. I was about to post that maybe he was right...Then, Later, when hunting I am suddenly getting beaten on by blurrgs like I have Master Artisan as a combat profession...I have no longer got any idea what is going on, one fight I am back to normal. A white con will hit 3 maybe4 times before I drop it, the next and I am getting my arse handed too me and spend most of the fight applying stims.

I couldnt bare to read through all of the post before mine..I doubt that you (TH) will read this after all of that...Panic Shot is useless..what good is it if my gun shoots them again and unfreezes them? better yet what good is it if the NPC still chases me?

I think its great that your trying to balance combat and my suggestion starts here, nerf the hell out of tka's or make fencer and pikeman much much better, its about time they did something for us.

TH doesn't seem to care to respond, so why even bother having this forum.I've been playing for many months now while the game just gets worse.After purchasing two copies and having many friends also play I think it's time to pack up soon dueto lack of support given and take my friends(accounts) with me. City of Hero's is starting to sound better everyday. I guess they don't care if we play or not, just remember if we don't play then we don't pay!


If you don't want stacking then don't make it possible to acquire that skill, don't hide the fact it's useless but still show the stats as if it is. I'm sorry but a martial arts expert with a pistol (tk+pistoleer)should still be able to dodge melee attack. O duh, since I have a pistol in my hands I don't know how to block or dodge this attack from a person's fist coming at me now! I better equip my vk's so I can move my feet again. Give us a brake, say something. Unless your just giving us the smoke and mirrorsto keep ushopeing for the best when it's not. This way you can try to make it seems like the game isn't total crap yet, because if you did give us the real scoop then maybe people wont stay because of hope. It's a yes or no, or a play or quit situation here. We don't want a maybe situation anymore just to get another month from us!
