Thread: Thoughts on the Warren?

It's a good start, but the fact that we need to camp for those keys/letter really sucks. I mean c'mon, I thought SWG was supposed to be for the casual gamer, and here we have to camp for hours.

I have started a thread for figuring out what is bugging some people and not others in the Warren.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=689327

Please post any info you have that might be related to the passkey bug. If we can figure out why some people are bugged and not others, then maybe we can get a better workaround than "get 200 keys".

After reading the posts on this forum as well as the CH forum for the last 5 days, as well as my many countless hours of personal experience each day since the recent patch, I will speak for almost all other CHs and Hunting parties out there when I say:

What happened to all the creatures/babies/lairs???

Now I dont care what anyone says on the CH forum because that involves too many different situations, so I'm saying this here on OUR forum...Lowca's forum. Something isnt right when I can walk on Dantooine 4km dead west, then go another 5km north, and then head to the northrn outpost without getting aggroed, or finding a single creature on my ranger areatrack. Thats right, not a single one. But thats not all. Then on Dathomir I headed 5km dead west, then walked south all the way to the "secret" imp outpost without running into a single rancor, graul, or graul mauler. No, not just babies...I couldnt even find the adults or their lairs! None. And all the other people out there that spend a lot of time hunting these on Dantooine and Dathomir know for a fact that before this recrnt patch, the ideal spots for rancors on Dathomir were about 3-4km west of the northern outpost, and for grauls about 5-6km west. On Dantooine, grauls were always found about 1.5-3km west of the imp outpost.

The same problem is on all planets though. I cant even find a darn dragonet on Tatooine!

This problem needs to be addressed and not just pushed aside like everything else the people in charge at SOE do with player issues. If this isnt fixed soon, I wont hesitate to cancel my account if no one will hear me out. And go ahead and say "oh look, another CH crying about not being able to find a baby...aaww" or "quit your whining, there is no problem, you're just not looking hard enough." I dont care, you people do not effect me with your petty remarks, but just remember how you treat me on here the next time you have a probem and people respond to your post by saying "stop whining." Thats all I have to say, but I hope a lot more is said in return.

What does that have to do with the warren?

The world accoring to Garva:

"Also to be bluntly honest, everyone keeps saying "there are this and that many people leaving the game" when its just plain not true. There are no fewer people playing at peak time now than there were 5 months ago. (thats not even saying how many active accounts their are which has also infact Increased over the past 6 months steadily) while I know you will probably just see this as smoke it really is the truth."

Here are MY thoughts on The Warren.

Pros:

1. It introduces a new mission style that is very intruiging and fun.
2. It introduces new and interesting NPCs and creatures (the cyborgs)
3. It is challenging and gives badges as rewards.

Cons:

1. The "Escapee" supposedly randomly spawns all over Dantooine, NOT just near the Warren. This makes it INCREDIBLY difficult to find (I was only able to get inside the Warren today after being ignored by many players, but finally accepted into one group that had a passkey)
2. The overhead map display ALL rooms and ALL levels which makes it NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to be deciphered. THe overhead map would be INCREDIBLY useful if it only displayed the LEVEL that you are on, and not ALL levels overlapping each other.
3. It is UNBELIEVABLY confusing in there. First, there are upwards of 3 different groups all running the "missions," each group has at least 3 pets, one of which is 90% of the time a Graul or Graul Mauler. Therefore, you have 3 groups of 3 or more people with 3 or more pets ALL visible on the overhead map and if your overhead map isn't on, your view is STILL obstructed by the immense pets that take up the entire room.
4. Targeting enemies is obscenely difficult because most of the time, pressing Tab targets not the enemy you see right before your eyes or attacking you, but a completely different enemy in a completely different room on a completely different level.
5. It is very difficult to distinguish between different rooms and levels. You do not know if you are still on level one, or if there even is a level one, or if that elevator takes you down one level or two levels, etc. etc.

Overall I think that the Warren would be A LOT better if:

1. The overhead map is fixed to show only one level of dungeon.
2. Oversize pets are not allowed.
3. Most importantly: there is some sort of incentive to keep the Warren open, as in, not as many groups. If there were more Warren-type dungeons or something kept more than X amount of people entering the Warren at a time, it would make for a much more rewarding experience.

I went into the Warren tonight for the first time. Overall, I have to give it a thumbs down, BUT it could be a big thumbs up if some changes were made...

First, when I got there I found out I had to get multiple entry keys. Apparently every door in the Warenrequires an entry key... so you need to go in with your backpack full of them. Not fun. People were getting stuck in the Waren and had to logout to get out.

Then you find a group of people hunched around corpses in a room waiting for items to spawn on a corpse... again, not fun. According to them it takes an hour for a new item to spawn. Shouldn't we be able to get our own items off corpses just the same way we all each got an entry key. That really put a drain on the fun. Someone grabbed one of the items off the corpse and people were offering well over 100k for it.

I haven't been able to explore the rest of the Warren, but I hope to someday... it just won't be anytime soon for me with that key bug.

My thoughts....crap. It seems like everything content wise in this game is way off base. First of all, if I didn't read the posts and figure out how to either A...get here (coords), or B...get in (guy that gives key), I would have no idea that this place even exists. There may be some random guy in the galaxy that talks about it but I have not seen him. Anyway, as for getting in, how would I know I needed to talk to an escapee to get in? If anything, there should be a NPC by the entrance telling me that some thug escaped the facility and he needs my help to track him down, etc. At least that way finding him would make sense and I would know what I had to do. Unfortunately, there is nothing like this....and I can't get in anyway, because apparently this "escapee"only spawns randomly, as he is nowhere to be found. I am used to playing Final Fantasy games and thought this was Final Fantasy like...only way better because it was Star Wars. Final Fantasy has some sort of "linear" path that all can follow, while still allowing players to deviate from the path to do other things. I would hope to see something of that sort with this game. At least something that makes doin anything in this game worthwhile. As it is, PVP seems kind of pointless, (though still fun), and all the sidequests also seem to have no real point to them. As I know this game is endless, which makes it difficult to have a linear path, I just feel that hardcore players that love to play should be able to embark on a long difficult path with some sort of purpose. As it is my understanding Jedi may be that path but as it is....no one knows how to get it. And, I don't wanna know....I'm afraid if I have to read about it on the boards I'm not gonna wanna get it...takes all the mystery away. Anyway, I know this is a rant....but I just ran a ways to get here...and no way to get in. Same thing with Nyms quest, also bugged as their is no waypoint to the research facility. I'm just depressed I guess...but I will forge on and hope to get in this place someday.....

The Warren is definately a step in the right direction. My first trip there fired up my interest in the game far more than anything else during my time in SWG. An involved storyline with a decent amount of challenge is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for. I just wish the Warren was about 6 times as big.

There are a couple things that irritate me a bit about the place however.

The way the letter for the Badge of Compassion gave me serious flashbacks of EverQuest. I can stomach the wait on that, but I prefer seeing things like that capable of being looted by an entire group at once instead of having to wait 10 hours for a large group.

The Reactor Rods. Omg. Or more specifically, the DRUM the Reactor Rods are meant to go in. My first time into the Warren was awesome. I spent hours exploring the place from the top to bottom, discovering what it was abount. Finally, I vaguely figured out what I was supposed to be doing with the Reactor Rods. It would be nice if it the scientist was a little more clear on where the Rods need to go, and double nice if you got some sort of feedback when you placed the Rods in the right place that would let you know the way is open for the final rooms. Of cource, the way things are right now, the majority of players who come into the Warren, when they reach the Reactor room, are told they they are not allowed to manipulate the drum the Rods are meant to be inserted into. I personally spent 4 hours tonight sitting outside the Reactor room waiting for the room to respawn so we could finish the quest. As someone had completed that part earlier in the evening, we never got to continue, nor did 3 other PA raids into the Warren that we witnessed in our time there. Seriously, tweak the reactor room so that when a player inserts the reactor rods correctly, that players group is allowed access to the final rooms, is NOTIFIED of this, and the rods are deleted from the barrel so that the next group can finish this part.

A Locked Cell, Mirla, and the Badge of Compassion. My first trip into the Warren,I managed to obtan my Badge of Compassion from Mirla. In the resulting dialogue, I was given the password for a Locked Cell. I wrote this password down and left for the evening. Upon my return the next day, the password was no longer valid. Apparently this password changes every so often. So I returned to Mirla to find out the new password, and discovered I no longer had any conversation options to achieve the current password from. In the end I had to scour the forums in order to figure out who the 'authorities' are. Once a player has achieved the Badge of Compassion, please have Mirla tell the player what the password is to get into the Locked Cell. While we're on the subject, the body in the Locked Cell always needs to have the disk on it. There is no reason not to allow every player who enters that room to have a copy of that particular disk.

More Reactor Rod woes. While we're on the subject of items spawning in containers. The Reactor Rods.. Every time my group has cut its way down to the Reactor Rods, another group in the Warrens has jumped in against the AT-ST due to strength in numbers. On more than one occasion this has lead to one group getting one of the rods, and the other group taking the second. If those containers could always have the rods, and only allowing one of each to be taken, it could spare a lot of problems.

That's everything I can think of for now. Keep up the good work! =)

Don't know if it's fixed but I tried a couple nights ago and got stuck inside after scamming the NPC for loads of passkeys. Not even the mighty /eject could get me out of that horrid place, after getting killed by a comrade I was really disappointed after telling friends that this is the greatest game ever then having their first sight of it be bugged. Hope you're working hard on it, I'd like to finish.

Nirec Slade "The Fresh Prince of Galaxies"

He was a cowboy, mister, and he loved the land. He loved it so much he made a woman out of dirt and married her. But when he kissed her, she disintegrated. Later, at the funeral, when the preacher said, "Dust to dust," some people laughed, and the cowboy shot them. At his hanging, he told the others, "I'll be waiting for you in heaven--with a gun."

I have two questions

1. have the Devs acknowledged the fact the Warrens has a bug and is broke, or did they fix it?

2. what is the starting location for this?

It looks really cool - but it's too buggy to use. I never complain, but this was nasty:

A group of 4 of us head out there to check it out. We talk to the escapee, and go to the dungeon. After about 2 feet, we are told that we don't have the passkey anymore (you lose it every step). So after checking the forums we find the workaround is to get multiple copies of the keys by storing them in your backpack. So we do that - but the checks also work in REVERSE! Meaning that now when we run out of keys (5+ each, and not enough to get us far in) we're unable to get out again! So we spend the next 20 minutes figuring out how to kill each other to get out - we got lucky and someone came by who agreeded to DB us, or we'd be there still! Not fun - we had 4 people mad, and we all normally don't get mad about bugs (we work in software).

We were grouped (with pets) which seemed to aggravate the problem, as others were coming in OK. I just don't see how a problem like this could not be found with ANY decent amount of testing!

So my final opinion - it looks great, but once you put these on live is it too much to ask to have CSRs run through them to look for show stoppers? A little more quality, and we'd all of been having a blast.

Thanks for listening to my rant.
