Thread: In-Concept Open Discussion (6-7-04)
A simple, but powerful hotfix for the in-game UI:
Can you add a single option to the current User Interface that allows us to SAVE/LOAD the UI Options?
Just have it create a text file with EVERY value on the CTRL-O Options Window. Then if you LOAD that text file, it'll put in whatever options you have selected.
This would be very useful for people who LIKE to enjoy the high detailed graphics in the game. When we enter cities like Coronet or Theed, the lag is obnoxious, and you either have to constantly change your Graphics options, or just disable stuff permenantly.
This is all simplified. You're better off to hire a behavior psychologist for a day to come in and talk to you. Or read a psych text book (which is far more boring).
2) VISIBLE FACTION RANK: This isIN-FACT a ROLE-PLAYING GAME. Let us have our roles, or atleast withour faction or something. Make themvisible. Faction Ranks = USELESS.
I will continuethis list later on.

I'm sorry if this has ever been mentioned or not, I don't have the time to check this or many of the other forums due to the fact that I work 14-24 hour shifts at a time and only get a couple of days off a week. Those days are usually used doing catch up on personal matters, or of course logged in playing SWG.
I would like to see a "Roleplaying" Server, that might be strictly enforced as a server set asside for only those who wish to play the part, or those who wish to PVE when applicable. I just get annoyed by those who run around making statements such as, "Dont' you hate people who think this is actually Star Wars." And persons who choose to name their character, "Anti-Roleplayer" and "McChicken Sandwich" These are fine for persons who just want to use the game as what it is....a game. But for those of us who grew up watching Star Wars, and who just like to get away from RL and immerse themselves in a fantasy role where they can be the ruthless bounty hunter, or the daring smuggler, or the Tyrant Imperial, or the Heroic Rebel leader. It would be nice to be surrounded by those same type characters. When I hear someone come up to me and say something like, "why did you waste all those faction points on that stupid Stormtrooper armor." I want to say, "why did you waste that perfectly good wad of George Washingtons (or equivilant, for those of you outside the U.S.
on this game." I was happy when I bought this game, I was excited because I could actually play a character who was in the Star Wars Universe. But when you have rebel Oppressors, and Imperials in hiding. maybe it should be a Post ROTJ game instead of pre-ESB. I know this is possible due to the fact that those who enjoy roleplaying characters in the rebellion actually play like the Empire is in charge, and that they are in hiding. But those who run around as Overt Rebels killing every Imperial they see, NPC or not, it ruins their roleplay. I know because I have a rebel character or two myself. It would satisfy many of us Roleplayers if we could have a server of our own, it would intensify our desire if you could create a way to transfer our characters to the Roleplayer Server, however that might be asking too much, atleast in such time.
Just a thought, sorry it took so long to say.

Lunatic Here,
Well, I'm curious as to one thing actually... aside from my other posts. Is Star Wars ever going to hop on the 'New Wave' of Massive Players lists I've been seeing. Basically trying to up the graphics engine and or add any spoken text in the game aside from the occassional Stormtropper telling us to "Move Along?" I realize we can't have Mark Hamill speaking out Luke's text in game... but it'd add something to the game if someone did.
In my last post I also suggested an idea towards fixing the continuity problem at least a small percentage of us have with the game. Why not, after the current major publishes get done, look at turning different servers into different parts of the timeline? Then we could have at least one server devoted to only Episode 4-6 material. A server where basically everyone gets to clash in the epic Jedi Wars of a 1,000 years back... and go on to New Republic times on another. Well, instead of the mesh we have now. I actually think a lot of people, even the ones that have no problem with the game now, might actually enjoy trying out different parts of the timeline on *isolated* servers. I've no doubt this would either end up being another years wait to set up... or probably end up having to be a 5-6 year plan to launch Star Wars Galaxies 2... but an idea I wanted to mention none the less. As hard as it is for the devs and your bean pushers... I still think it'd be possible to put out a Star Wars game that didn't interfere with content and would still be fun to play. Different servers representing different eras could be an answer to this.

It would not be that hard to implement, actually, given that they could utilize the same server network they are using now, and simply designate timelines by grouping. You would have to give everyone a certain time period in which to check out the various timeline servers and move their chaacters, but that would be the only actual difficulty I could foresee.

TH,
I am going to add to the ever present "noise" in this thread. Here is my question. What does SOE consider a casual player?
In terms of hours played, playstyle etc. This game was billed as a haven for the casual player. Well I see distrubing trends.
Shuttle times are way out of wack. I was trying to get from dant to lok on my lunch hour. It took35 minutes to get to LOK.
This is not immersion this is a huge waste of time. I also noticed the disturbing trend of forced grouping. I know that missions payouts were changed to stem the money tide but the system is wacky. People are grouping for 10 min at the terms and going their seperate ways. This is not immersion.
You changed the canon of the Star Wars timeline all in the name of fun. Well I suggest the same be done with game mechanics.
Travel time should not take 50% of my playing time THAT IS NOT FUN!!! As a Master Bounty Hunter I should be able to hunt more than perleks on LOK. Please rework the mission system. I am a bounty hunter the scumm of the universe I dont have friends to group with to get higher payouts. Having to fight creature beneath my level isnt FUN!!
Also please do something about the difficulty and payout for Bounty Hunter Missions. The only time these are even challenging (from a combat perspective) is when the mark magically clones itself. Since this mechanic is already in the game I suggest giving the marks some bodyguards (Hey I know make them all DROID commanders so that they too can have SBDs. On the plus side I think the idea of the mission is super and I hope that they will carry into space HINT HINT
That leads to my final observation since the entire combat system is being overhauled now would be a good time to add traps that work on humanoids. I would be content with the current traps working on humanoinds. That way the overtaxed art department can continue making spaceships. As bounty hunters we are designed to attack from surprise. Where is the surprise you can see a red dot coming from 250m. Like the rifleman I think there should be a way to mask the radar for a bit. Otherwise there is no surprise and the BH profession needs to be retooled to more like a melee prof. ( Oh by the way why does a sword do more damage than an energy weapon ). Also ( Why is a master dancer better at defending themselves against a physical assault than a bounty hunter. I know the cantinas are rough places but how much brawling do dancers really do. ).
