Thread: Icons over heads
Icons over a designated target by *any* group leader would be usefull. This should not be limited to just Squad Leaders ... as the vast majority of groups don't have squad leaders.
Guess why? OK... guess again.
Although i agree.... don't make the target icon for SL's only. The SL's need much more attention from the Dev's than this floating target icon. Give every group leader that ability. DiLune mentioned that before.
Also, would it be possible to make the icon 'part of the mob' so people could click it?
That way you have a pull of 10 critters, there will be an icon floating above the pack so you can click that instead of tabbing or trying to get lucky clicking into the mess.
Yep... exactly.
If there is a lair with 3 or 4 packed togetheryou can't tell, at your max shooting range, over which mob exactly the icon is floating. Let the icon also show up in the HAM bar of the target. That way everyone knows that a target is selected by the group leader and can search for the target by looking at the HAM bars.
Also, targeting in general needs an overhaul. The way my targets are picked when I am Tabbing around is ludicrous. More often than not TAB targets the furthest MOBs away. Then I have to cycle through tons of irrelevant MOBs just to get to the one I actually want to kill. Very frustrating.
Nail on the head... nothing more to say.
can you give the squard leade the ability to see ourmission waypoint , i think this could usefull to lead a great group ....
This is an interesting idea! One thing that would make this kind of feature SO MUCH easier to use would be--
--an easy way to TAB through friendly characters.
I'm a CM and a Doctor and when I see someone running from a mob, I'd like to click on them and see if they need me to throw a ranged stim at them, or if they're just kiting.
As it is, I have to try to get my cursor over them, while they're running, so I can MAYBE click on them and get them targeted--it's near impossible if they're trying to dodge a creature. Once they get incapped or slain, then it's much easier ![]()
I've thought about something like Ctrl-TAB or Alt-TAB, to tab through blue (or purple) friendly characters. That'd be so helpful.

I'd be happy with just a "tab" key that cycled between all people that are :
a) in range. (checks to see if your a CM)
b) possible to heal (same faction/newt)
c) have wounds/damage (bonus points, if you can set a "wounded level" - skip people with only small wounds)
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've gotten very upset trying to target the poor guy while he runs around madly, or in a large crowd of people, really makes me scream when two people sit on the same bed, or sit down out of range.
As for the TEF flag, rather than adding another icon to the already crowded screen, why not just make the faction icon RED if they are currently overt and WHITE if they are covert. Oh, and perhaps a pop up box saying "healing this person will make you attackable by the enemy"

I'm not sure this is really necessary since the information shows up in the group display. What I'd personally prefer is a mini-group display that didn't take up so much space - a tiny version of the HAMs and any status effects overlapping the bars (to save space) and prioritized so the 'important' status effects would show up if there isn't enough room.
This is an excellent idea. I play with my resolution set to 1280x1024 and any group larger than 5 pretty much takes up the entire right side of the screen. This is something I'd love to see implemented.
Back on track, if the overhead icons are going to be implemented, we should have the option to turn them on/off, the "need healing"iconshould appear automatically whenever your character needs heeling (regardless of location or activity), and the icons should be viewable by all friendly players.
The icon should only be visible to grouped members so as not to alert the enemy.
I think additional icons outside of the one for hurt players should be a Squad Leader ability, throw these guys a bone.
Give them a variety of configurable icons to indicate different members abilities in the group.
In the matter of icons over heads why I can NOT see anymore the group icons over heads ? I mean the icons that were above the head of players that belonged to a group...

All player icons should have their own option to be turned on and off just like tags.
Wounded Icon - within group and disignated healing areas (cantinas, medical centers, homes)
As for a target icon I think this should be a Squad Leader only ability. The thing is I'm not sure an icon would be enough. I mean if you are in a group of 10+ players with 5+ MOBs around an icon that isn't flashing like neon yellow is going to be hard to pick out.
So either make the icon a flashing neon bright panic light or prehaps find some way of literally highlighting the said creature.
I think your need some kind of flag or icon to let you know you have a TEF, there is no way right now to know until your enemy kills you and they tell you that you had the TEF
I liked the part where u told about sl
The target icon will help a lot!!!!!
And maybe wil make volley fire useless
So maybe the union of this idea and fixing the volley fire would be the optimum solution
Several good ideas here in thread.
My background I play as a squad leader / rifleman leading groups of 10-20 people frequently.
I would like a player to add an Icon to himself as needing assistance. Maybe this should be shown in HAM bar as well.
I would like a squad leader to be able to add a marking to the current target. This mark should show in the HAM bar, so when you cycle targets you can see whatever the squadleader have selected. The /assist is flawed because I flip around among targets a lot, checking things while fighting goes on. And if people assist me they will fire straight to ...
I do think an icon could be added, but the important mark should be in HAM bars.
/SelectTarget
Also I would like to be able to assign group waypoints. To assist in movement. This ability should be given to any group leader, or only SL if you think us underpowered. (I don't think we are if you get everything to work...)

How about you simply fix the health bar bugs so they update properly?
Then I dont think any floating icons will be necessary.
My wife is a master doc, and her only issue with figuring out who to heal is the health bars not updating at the actual damage rate, or many times not updating at all.
This is a common bug in many games, DAOC had the same issue, but eventually they fixed it. This is the #1 reason for me dying 99% of the time and we sit next to eachother playing, if you actually take a moment to look at the other persons screen you see huge discrepencies in actual vs shown damage.
