Thread: Icons over heads
Like it aslong as we get a turn off feature in options....
As for other icons that could show up.... hmmm im trying to think of some... I just can't... maybe for merchants a seller icon and the icon would be what they sell ie weapons/armor/houses/etc... this would be up to the merchant if he wanted to do it.... and it should be atleast a novice merchant skill if not in one of the trees or master merchant.... merchants need more usefull perks
I don't like the gerneral idea of the icon. It's not really that hard to pick people to heal. If you made tabbing work on friendly target with no weapon wielded it will make crowded med centers easier. Even with Icons it won't help a crowd, names and icons will over lap and will be still hard to target the right one by clicking.
However a nice Master Medic tool that allows them to see theHAM of every thing, like when you are being attacked by a number of tartgets, you'll see the HAM above them all. Some kinda of tool you wield instead of a weapon. You can also attack with it but it wouldn't do any damage but allows teamates to assist. Yes, it would be used to pick off the unhealthed people in PvP first, which is why it should be limited to master medics and can't use a weapon with it. Or you can make it a master Doc thing. This would make medic or docs alittle more useful and also give them a reason to stick with solo healing instead of combat and healing. But over all, i don't see it being extremely useful unless it's in a crowds of things. You also do some others things with the tool on attack. Like turn the target name color to something other then red or yellow, A light orange for exampleor maybe do something like a combat medic heal ball but insteald of blue, do green. The name color thing could also be used to let the team a medic is being attacked
Kuurus - Master Doctor\Master Pistoleer
How about making it an emote. You do something like /healme or /needheal it does a message saying that, with the persons name highlighted, and puts the icon over thier head for a small period of time, and puts the icon in the group listing.
This makes it useful for medics in combat to allow them to easily identify the person.
Just putting an icon over the head of anyone injured is worthless since most people walk around with wounds all the time.
I think it´s a good idea, but
1) make the icons skill specific (i.e. only if you have a medic skill you can see the "heal" icon, Squad Leaders can set up an attack Icon on mobs,)
2) let the players be able to switch them off and on, in the config menu
Absolutely love the idea!
Icons for targets
I like the idea of SL's getting this (not just any group leader) Give the poor under-utilized squad leaders some more tools, this one sounds like a good idea...
I like the idea of icons for mission targets (lairs) for all players in a group.
Holocron wrote:Today one of the programmers decided to add a floating icon over people's heads who were badly wounded (he was playing a medic, and found it useful). This led to a discussion on how a feature like this might work--what filters you'd want, who should be able to see the icons, how you turn them on and off.
I would suggest to make it as a skill to high developed medic (or even combat medic is beter).
Another suggestion was the ability for a group leader to set an icon over a target (I believe that the squad leaders have already asked for something like this as an ability). Ability for anyone? For SL's only?
What do you think about all these notions?
Only for SL, those guys need to be loved and inspired to be the SL.
We need Icons to show faction members your Faction Ranks
Like an icon for Sergeant, General, and so on, try drawing true army grades, in a SW style
)
As a budding Squad leader this would be a great addition. I would like to see any icons whether they be target set icons (only usable by SLs but viewable by any in the SLs group) or medical viewable by SLs
Medical could be viewable by medics and SLs (after all a good sl should be able to see the state of their squad at all times)
So what would be good:
Health status (viewable by SL, Medics)
Target icon (auto set by SLs attacking said target)
Mission Icons (set by SLs to define the current Lair)
What about Profession types - say a SL can assign overhead icons to the medics so its easy to see whos who etc?
However this is implemented Id say it should be a definate SL skill set.
a. some discrete icons added to the existing name display in spatial for various purposes.
for medics who are in same faction / neutral to the pc:
1. a small colour coded triage icon indicating general health based on % damage/wounds.
2. a tef indicator
an icon showing the player's rank in a faction, only visible to others in the faction. it might not be a problem if it was visible to everyone since it wouldn't really tell them anything else.
these could be arranged like this:
(F) (R) Joe Random PC (M) (T)
F = faction icon
R = rank icon
M = triage icon
T = tef indicator
the M and T flags should be half the size of the current faction icon (or smaller). maybe combine them into one icon?
how about a coloured cross for triage, if they have a tef put a red circle around it.
i, for one, would like to walk into a hospital and see the general health of people without having to individually target each one.
allow people/medics to turn the medic icons off if they want to.
b. target designators
for group leader, a single floating 'attack this' icon over the target's head
for squad leaders (as group leader), various floating icons including: 'primary target' 'secondary target' 'heavy weps target' 'heal/res this pc' etc.
these should only be visible to people in the same group and should be turn-off-able in the gui options.
also, it would be nice if faction rank and tef info were shown in character sheets, and maybe also examine boxes.
There is a similar feature in another SOE game I play; Planetside.
It is a very good idea. Have an icon appear over badly woundedPCs or ones who are bleeding and are in need of first aid.
Also make it so that only medics/doctors can see this (preferably only the ones which belong to the same faction as the wounded character. if the character is neutral make it so every medic/doc can see him)
Example:
Turn my wound indicator on (a switch found in Options)
For everyone (check/uncheck)
For groupmates (check/uncheck) (btw, somewhat redundant, I can see who's hurt in my group already, neh?)
For factionmates (check/uncheck): so in the mass pvp fights, a friendly medic can see I'm getting whupped, but an enemy can't see that I'm ripe for finishing unless he's actively attacking me.
For PA (check/uncheck): So in a mass combat (whatever might come up that's more than 20 people), you can do the above. See when someone outside of your grouping (or whatever) needs a hand.
Hide others' wound indicators (check/uncheck): So you can ignore everyone else's silent plea for help if you're trying to cut down on the visual clutter.
Whatever it is, it should have something arbitrary like yellow when a hambar gets to 50%, red when it gets to 25%, black when it gets to 10% or somesuch. ANd not be a huge eyesore (I'm sorry, the 'Info' blue icons make my teeth itch, as welcome as SOMEthing of that nature is for spotting npcs).
